date >>> cat

but it kinda reminds me of one of my guildmates, who was amongst the first 70's on my server in BC. he dinged 70 and then complained nonstop about having nothing to do because there weren't enough 70's around at any one point to run heroics with.

I'm having a terrible time logging into the game. A few in my guild were able to log in with no problems. One was reporting a realm first for the new max level of cooking no more than 8 minutes after Cataclysm going live. Holy crap...

believable. Saw similar achievements when BC went live...

this may have allready been posted but here it is again if you missed it

predownload the patch so all you have to do is enter your CD key and go if you are getting a had copy at midnight

To play Cataclysm the moment it goes live on midnight (3am EST) Dec. 7 without pre-ordering via battle.net, just follow these easy steps:
1) Make sure World of Warcraft and/or the launcher and background downloader are completely closed.
2) Open up your World of Warcraft folder.
3) Open Launcher.wtf in Notepad and change the "accountType" line from LK to CT.
4)Open Config.wtf in Notepad and change the "accountType" line from LK to CT.
Now load up the launcher and you should begin downloading 700 megs or so of new material. That's the last bit of data you need to play on launch night. Enjoy!

I just did this last night, does it mean I don't have to install anything from the retail DVD and just need to upgrade my account with the key when I got it later this weekend?

I find it weird that they even offer a retail DVD anymore with this game. You have to get online to play in the first place, they pre-release the majority of the content to unlock at launch, and even if there was a day zero patch, disc owners would still have to download it. Just seems like a complete waste to release at retail unless I'm just underestimating the effect of the presence of boxes sitting on the shelf for people to see and want to play.

Anyone do a faction change? I paid for a change this morning, but it seems it's taking a while for the icon on character select screen to appear to actually modify my character. Anyone else have this issue?

Also, I've transferred to Alterac Mountains - Alliance.

doesn't it say you can't play for a while? I can't remember if it was 1 day or if that was a race change.

Boxed copies have their uses. First, exposure. Having it in the stores is in itself a form of PR. I realize it doesn't seem like it would be a big deal, but you're also likely a solid wow player and thus have picked cata clean of information months ago. There are many casuals who might not have played for awhile who Blizzard needs to show the game to.

Second, there are many people who have less than ideal internet connections or simply don't want to have to deal with long downloands. In this case, I prefer the box because I like that I'm getting a new DVD installer that is comprehensive through cataclysm. Times do come where I need to reinstall Wow, and its much quicker to just install the disc and then do a quick patch or two then to sit there and download many GB of data. If the digital download was cheaper I'd likely go that route, but for the exact same price I can also get the physical media. All things being equal, why not get the box in that case? I walked into walmart on my way to work this morning and picked up cata with no problems. I wouldn't have been able to play till I got home anyway. It's a win win for me.

I'm sure its the same for many people. Not everyone takes time off from work just to play a game lol 😛

I got absolutely destroyed by a Goblin rogue at Vashj'ir this morning. So unless it was some sort of shape shifting, it looks like players allowed race changes from day 1.

That, and I think they still want to keep maintaining a good relationship with retailers. I don't think going full online (both digital and physical boxes from their online store) is in their best interest now. Maybe in the future, but not yet.

I'm actually one of the few people who probably won't be buying this if I couldn't get it at a retail store. I only decided to get it because I received a $50 GameStop gift card last week that I can use.

"A Character Race Change for the character XXXXXXX is now ready! The character can now enter a special race change and customization menu located on the in-game character selection screen.

Near the character's name on the character select screen, there should be an option to enter the customization menu for that character. When you are satisfied with the changes, you can enter the game immediately as your new character race. If you wish, you can put off the changes for a later time and just play the game as before.

Below is a summary of the transaction, which you may want to keep for your records."

This was the e-mail response I got. It sounds like it should be immediately available.

Logged on this morning before work, turned in my 25 icc dailies for 36% experience, got flying and already there were 82's on my server (Mannoroth - Horde) one of them a guildie.

Insanity, I have two characters to level and it'll take me forever.

You are allowed to race change right now since there is no FoS for first level 85 of a specific race.

Holy crap I got to 81 and a half last night before I gave in to sleep. Now I'm at work dying to get outta here and play more.

Warriors are insane for leveling, everything dies in 4 seconds max and you are at 100% at the end of every fight because of victory rush and just not taking much damage. I havent stopped to eat or bandage a single time.

umm, new herbalism trainer for cata? Don't see any new ones listed on wowhead? Is there a place where all the trainers are?

EDIT> nvm in SW

I read that leveling is a joke. People are hitting 85 within 8-10 hours played. Some guildmates are 83 now and they didn't touch beta. At this rate, I'll expect raid content being downed by the end of this week.

it is a joke, someone hit 85 on the EU servers before it even went live on the US servers

as mentioned in a preview post here, quests are very linear. I'm 75% to 81 and I'm not too excited about doing this to 85... guess I just want to see raid content at this point.
