I wasn't pointing fingers, I was simply stating a feeling I got from a couple posts.

Deep breath.

LOL

Yeah I know. It comes from frustration on my part I guess. What the source of the frustration is I still can’t say. Is it me? Do I just SUCK as a hunter with the new focus system? Maybe… I didn’t suck using the old system.

Look I’m willing to say hey maybe it’s me, but look at any forum and you will find a lot of people experiencing the same thing.

I’ll make you a promise though I wont take this down the flame/troll path

Hunter friend of mine went from doing 10-13k prepatch to 9-10k postpatch as a ~6100GS surv hunter. He wasn't too happy with the nerf and I know he was planning on trying out MM for his next raid. Haven't talked to him in a few days, though.

I’d be ecstatic with 9 to 10 K DPS…. Man I must just suck

The whole point is that after any major patch there's numerous fuckups. Of course your DPS may have gone down as a class, it's not like it's just going to sit there forever though. The wrinkles get worked out, always have and always will. The pre-wrath patch went through the exact same growing pains, and I'm sure the BC patch had some and I guarantee any future expansions will have them too.

Yup though there are some major differences with this patch as opposed to BC or WotLK. Those major patches were tied to a content expansion.

This time around the mechanics have been implemented prior to the content release so if the changes don’t balance out for Hunters until 85 you might as well simply forget about continuing with progression in Ice Crown.

Now I actually see up sides to this as well as the down sides. The down sides have pretty much been covered I would say but here is the good

Pro:

Learn the new system before we need to use it in new content.

Iron out MAJOR bugs, such as the click on a cog icon bug, or the inability to buy northern spices. (Haven’t checked on that one lately)

Smaller patch downloads at expansion time, and hopefully less down time at expansion release.

You know I wonder if it’s not something with my PC or my game installation. I had the oddest thing happen to me the other night. I went in game and headed to the target dummies. When I looked at recount I noticed that there were numbers in it from a raid I did PRE patch.

The funny thing about that is that after the patch I dumped all my old add ons and downloaded 4.0.1 compatible ones, so I’m not sure how in the heck this happened.
I cleared Recount and it didn’t happen again.

Maybe a fresh install of the game is in order. That’s not something I look forward to especially with all the patching involved

yeah I have 563 res right now and get murdered unless I have heals or manage to hit some lucky crits and/or get the jump on someone. Rogues and casters are the worst.

I have 1750 honor, might buy wrathful leggings or something...

just buy 17 red gems instead and wait for cata..

Deleting your add-ons from the Interface folder won't delete the saved data that is stored in the WTF folder. Recount just stores the damage info as text and numbers.

Yes but I deleted the WTF and interface folders post patch and prior to me getting the new add ons.

The day that the patch came out I logged into game on my main and was roaming around in the tournament area to see how the new focus system would do with daily quests. I flew down to one of the tents to pick up some quests and the game froze and kicked me out.

Not an unusual occurrence on a major patch day, but the odd thing was I couldn’t log back on with that toon. I could log on with all the other toons on that account but not my hunter. I went and deleted the WTF, and the Interface, folders but it didn’t help.

I put a GM ticket in on one of my other toons and the next day I was able to log in. The GM response was that they had to move my character in order to fix the problem. Indeed when I logged on I was in Shat.

So as far as I know there were no files from pre patch for it to find. Obviously there are some on my system somewhere though otherwise I wouldn’t have seen them. And if recount is pulling info from someplace else on my system perhaps there are other things messed up in my game install as well.

That is precisely how the pre-wrath patch went for those very same reasons.

anytime expansions have introduced new game changing mechanics, they have been implemented before the expansion was released. this is not new to cataclysm. as i stated in a previous post, i won't pretend that i have experience in northrend endgame on my hunter but i do have a ton of experience of endgame from prior expansions and vanilla. this new system is waaaaay better than it was back then. it is much different, and as a result i can understand why some people find it frustrating relearning the class they love. this relearning is not unique to hunters although i do realize the hunter class mechanics changed much more than any of the other classes. it took me about 3 instance runs to realize that i simply wasn't dumping my focus enough to maximize my dps. making the right choices for your rotation and using your focus efficiently is a must. i also won't pretend to know what rotation you are using, nor am i suggesting that it is the wrong rotation. i'm only speaking from my limited experience in the past week. i know that using a rotation that simply works can make it seem you're using the correct and most efficient rotation. after 3 instances and basing my rotation on one of two things (trash packs where i can aoe and single target, highest dps rotation) i finally felt that i just wasn't doing something properly to maximize my damage.

DISCLAIMER: i am only 72, i am missing shots from my rotation, and quite honestly i may not know what i'm talking about as a result of missing those shots and higher level abilities, but i do know that changing very simple things in my rotation increased my output significantly. before, i was doing decent damage (topping charts) in 5 mans but the reason i changed this up and eventually upped my damage significantly is b/c i noticed my focus bar staying around 40%-70%. i was trying to weave single shots into my steady shot rotation, where i could and eventually did add extra shots between steady shot rotations and maximized the use of my focus. i never ran out of focus when i needed it. i know this is vague but i am simply stating that changing one tiny thing in my rotation increased my output a tremendous amount. 300dps increase from such a minute change at level 72 is big :p

ooh... a whole month or so... big deal..

if you're concerned with raiding for another month.. knowing the xpac is coming out... you need to get out more. none of your progression is gonna matter come December 7th..

and technically.. Ruby Sanctom is currently End Game..

In particular, there's been some confusion regarding lower-level class specific quests that can no longer be completed. Never fear: class mounts and abilities remain available via class trainers, even though the quests associated with them are no longer available. Also, there are several low and mid-level weapons, trinkets and robes that were once awarded via class specific quests which are no longer available and their associated quests have been removed.

We are looking forward to offering new quests, quest lines and rewards as players level through World of Warcraft: Cataclysm instead. For example, we plan a level 20 dungeon based quest which will offer weapon rewards appropriate to all classes. There will also be a similar level 50 dungeon quest which has a headpiece reward.

Finally, if your Blood Elf paladin missed out on the Blood Knight Tabard, then you should still be able to acquire one via a race specific version of the level 50 dungeon quest. Those of you hoping to pick up a Rhok’delar, Longbow of the Ancient Keepers might be happy to know that the issues which were preventing the completion of this quest should now be resolved. It’s a good idea to keep in mind that even though this item is related to a level 60 quest line, that only level 80 characters will be eligible to acquire the necessary materials from the Onyxia’s Lair encounter. The good news for level 60 characters is that Nefarian has finally decided to grow some Mature Black Dragon Sinew, so interested players can complete the quest by picking that item up from him in Blackwing Lair.

Shit your gear from ICC doesnt mean shit once you get ahold of a 81 green >.<

its not that drastic, based on the beta most stuff starts getting replaced 83 with blues and greens from long quest chains/5mans

at 85 you most likely will have 100% new gear on. unlike wrath where we cleared naxx in mostly sunwell gear with some +hit items

Any ideas on the state of PvP gear with Cataclysm? Wondering if I'd be better off saving the honor for the new season. Kind of assuming the same progression - wrathful becomes the new relentless, replaced by whatever new name they come up with??

PvP gear will be updated/replaced every Arena season.

......... are you honestly saying that you can't go without doing same tired old content you've been on for the last year for a month and a half?

......... are you honestly saying that you can't re-learn your character in under 6 weeks?

......... are you honestly saying there's nothing to do in WoW except the latest raid content? [As much as I do feel that way, even I'll admit it's not entirely true.]

......... are you honestly saying you think there won't be any more balancing and tuning in the next 6 weeks?

etc etc, couldnt help myself ;)

He's saying it doesn't matter. Who cares if you get new loot when it's going to be obslete in a few weeks? I came back a few months ago just to get ready for cata and see how it had changed. While I've upgrade from mostly 245 gear to mostly 264 gear it wasn't a priority of mine. I raid when I have time, I do heroics when I have time and I mostly farm or have fun with friends in game doing whatever. I don't see any realy point in beating you head against a wall just to get pissed when new content is released and what you worked so hard for was all for nothing.

Don't like it? Don't play MMO's becasue they have to release new/better content to keep players playing. While it might suck 'starting over' its part of the game. I've done it 2 times already waiting on the third.

i was basically saying the same thing but in a nicer way :p. the key to these changes is that everyone needs to relearn to play their class. this is a circumstance where saying "L2P" actually applies and is not a flame or troll. we are all relearning.

going off one of the examples in this thread "i could do do 10-12k dps using volley before patch..." well that doesn't apply anymore. you should still be able to achieve similar numbers but the new design requires you to do more than simply press [insert aoe spell here].

LOl I don’t remember the wrath patch like that… then again they didn’t change my class mechanics so drastically at the time.

I guess we only notice things when they affect us directly
