I'm leaning towards leveling a caster in Cata. I've raided on a Warlock before (TBC), not sure how much has changed. I have leveled a Mage but never raided on it at all, so I'm kind of leaning that way. Thoughts?

My Warlock was fun to play last night. My wife was upset I reactivated my account but I don't plan on hardcore raiding, just chilling with friends that still play.

Oh well, it was fun to login and watch destruction do good damage with half Ulduar gear and half Naxx.

The thing with the mage is that the best PvE spec right now is just hitting the same two buttons over and over again.

That's the toughest part...it's impossible for me to get a good feel for what each class will play like at 85.

Well well. I havent played in a long time, *just over a year*. I had called it quits at level 65 because thats when my friends on the server bailed for a different game. So now I am on a server without anyone i know, and not the top level of play. And now the game feels alot different that it was going through the opening stages of the game. Do you guys have any ideas as to where I should be looking for good leveling guide? Alot of what I seem to be able to find for leveling guides seems to be out of date.

I dont recall the name of the server I am on either, but i used the 7 day trial period. Figured it might the right time to get to 80 so I can enjoy the expansion with everyone else.

Thanks for the help.

How are you getting the newer things to show up in SUF? I updated earlier today and it still won't show Holy Power on my Paladin (it was even enabled by default). I did everything from disabling and re-enabling, reloading my UI, but nothing worked :\.

I just ended up disabling the player frame in SUF and telling it not to hide the Blizzard one.

The one on curse doesn't work, the one from the source does. Has something to do with the Orig Author dropping it and some others picking it up

im 2 builds behind the most current but it works fine

http://www.wowace.com/addons/shadowed-unit-frames/

EDIT: well actually both are on curse but you have to overwrite with the one i linked so curse will update the right one

I recently came back to the game just before that patch (Stormreaver). I play a paladin and enjoyed tanking quite a bit before I stopped. As I try to learn the new specs, spells and rotations, I have a question. What are people's opinion on macros for combat? Do you feel it makes a player more consistent or does it lead to complacency? I'm tinkering with a tanking rotation macro right now and seems to work quite well. I've never used macros for combat in the past except for mundane tasks like equipping a fishing pole and casting.

I don't use combat macros on my Protadin... I don't think they're necessary at all, and would simply make my job incredibly boring.

There are also macros on MMOC for protadins.

I did update from wowace, but it didn't seem to work. The latest one I got from curse/wowace does work.

EDIT:

Ugh, now SUF keeps showing the party windows when I have them explicitly hidden in any raid. I have to go into the options, uncheck it and check it again. It seems to occur during a transition such as going into a dungeon, logging in, etc.

I thought the cinematic looked pretty awesome, but now... what will they premier at Blizzcon? :hmm: It kind of makes me want to come home on Friday just to check it out during my lunch break!

I raided earlier today on my Paladin and jeez... they weren't kidding about threat. It really is off the freakin' charts! As per usual Blizzard changes, I don't know if they really thought through Vengeance (gives all tanks 5% of the damage they take as AP up to 10% of their HP). I usually had around 3000+ bonus AP from Vengeance on each boss in ICC10H. I only have 3300 AP base, so I was gaining about 100% of my AP, and I was doing around 20,000+ TPS.

I felt bad for the poor DK... as long as I was getting hit and stacking Vengeance, he could never hold threat off me. Actually, screw the DK... those bastards always stole threat from my pally pre-4.0.1 !

I have found James' leveling guide to be very good--especially if you have a 2nd monitor. There is also an addon you can use to put the guide in game and give you waypoints/objectives so you just follow the arrow. Find some friends to play with, I have found it makes an enormous difference with how "fun" the game is for me.

My wife and I did some PvPing this weekend and wow, shit has really hit the fan in the PvP area in my opinion. First off, EVERYONE is in Wrathful gear with 1800 Arena Rating weapons. Second, the whole 20-29 level bracket is full of rogues Shadow Stepping people from across the map. I'm not even kidding, we were in a BG and Alliance had 6 rogues and Horde had atleast 4.

Tanking ICC as a DK - I saw similar numbers as long as I was the one doing the actual work. The same was true when I tanked another 10 man on my Warrior yesterday: I could put out ridiculous amounts of threat as long as I was the Primary, and nobody could come close. The reverse is also true: When the Paladin I was working with yesterday was in the #1 slot, I couldn't come close to his threat output either.

Vengeance falls off quickly, too. Made for some wonky behavior on (for example) H LDW, when the tanks need to be competitive (and competing) for threat in order to have accurate boss swaps. If/when the Offtanks can stay at or regain the #2 slot in the time it takes for the MT to get his debuffs, then it's simple... But with DD's (especially casters), being more potent, and with tank threat being dependent on Vengeance for max output it's now a lot harder to accomplish those kinds of tasks.

Used to be a mark of a superior tank team to be consistently good at aggro~swapping non~tauntable mobs by managing their positions on the threat table relative to each other and to the rest of the raid. But I guess 'Tauntable Bosses' aren't going anywhere. Not at this rate.

about that apparently there is no resilience cap right now, im assuming bug but once you get over 1600 resil you are basically immortal. at 1900 every hit is reduced to 200 or so damage

Ya, it's pretty bad. I switched from Ret PvP to Prot PvP along with every other paladin. I think my resil is at 1200 or so. My wife, a holy Paladin, is at the same resil and she had 4-5 Horde trying to kill her while she just stood there healing herself in one BG. It was pretty funny I have to admit.
