I've been bored lately with nothing good to play so I've been thinking about returning to WoW. I quit about a year ago around when the coliseum crap came out. My guild fell apart and the new content was super boring to me so I just didn't feel like playing any more. But I kind of want to get back in the grove again.

My main concern is that I was always the raid leader and main tank, playing for 2 years with the same guild and friends, it's really hard to get reestablished. I absolutely can't stand showing up on time for raids but getting stood out because I'm the new guy, and not being first on loot which prevents me from filling the main tank role again. Does anyone have any good ideas how to get back into things?

Also can anyone sum up or link to somewhere that has a nice list of all the changes that cataclysm is bringing?

I find Pally tanking a bit arduous at the moment (on live). Keeping up with geared DPS is not easy and actually more frustrating... it's not hard to even lose aggro :\.

Up until a couple months ago when my last guild collapsed, my Main was a ProtWar: It's never been "easy" to tank for geared, competent, and aggressive DDs. Though perfectly doable as long as you pay attention and work it. Worse when (as is the case now on my Warr and DK) you're out geared, and said DD's are less than attentive to threat.

The next few weeks are going to be fun: In my current guild, the atmosphere is such that if the tanks don't pull enough, fast enough, then the DD's will do it for them (on a good night we can clear 9/12 HM ICC25 in about 3 hours).

Given the changes, I forsee a lot of wipes on trash in the near future. ;)

The problem that I have is that without TotT or MD, I cannot hold threat in the beginning at all. It wasn't uncommon for Fury Warriors to pull aggro off of me on H-Marrowgar even with a proper pull, 69 rotation and using wings. Warrior's Vigilance is actually one of their best abilities. It not only gave you a threat boost that scaled with your raid's top performance, it also reduced that person's threat. The only bad thing is that it requires you to understand who will deal the most threat, which isn't always #1 DPS.

/agreed that Paladins could use more Burst Threat  Once established, sustained has always seemed perfectly good though.

And yah - Warlocks and Fury Warriors tend to to be the ones making life a little challenging at times. But besides class, behavior helps/hinders as well - For example: My guild's GM is a Boomkin who enjoys popping all his CD's while running in during the pull so they'll be available again towards the close. I don't usually have problems with Boomers, but the first time I tanked for him (on Adillysse), it was like Holy CRAP!!!... Later, I looked at the Logs and saw what he was doing. My main has almost always been my ProtWar, but since I also have played a Warlock since Vanilla it's still instinctive to go through a normal rotation cycle or two before dropping any real bombs. Even now when I'm hardly ever near the top of my current guild's DPS charts, I still don't run in on Kukudhi and immediately pop Metamorphosis/Aura/Shadow Cleave.
...doing that is a good way to have half the guild teabagging you during loot...

Something I had meant to ask before, is there anyway to verify your engineering specialty? Don't recall if I went through the process already and the guy doesn't have the quest for me now. Just trying to check and make sure I didn't screw anything up or stopped in between some quest and need to find it.

Isn't your Engineering speciality listed in your spellbook under general? I can't remember off the top of my head, but I know BS ones are there. There's really only one quest to determine engineering speciality, and you change at that guy in north-east Tanaris... right north of Steamwheedle Port.

Warriors as DPS are really just a broken class to be honest. They're the only class that actually gains more resources by dealing more damage. So not only do they gain DPS from gear directly, but also from the indirect rage gains. This will be slightly different in Cata because resources such as Energy will replenish faster with more haste, but that can be easily factored into the item point distribution since it affects all leather physical DPS; however, you can't penalize all plate DPS because Warriors have always been imbalanced with high gear levels. Warlock threat is usually nasty because Demos are strong and their build forgos the -threat talent.

As for Warlocks, I've been messing around with Demonology, and it's not bad but I do find properly weaving in Hand of Gul'dan to be difficult with Immolate's base duration. The problem is that you push back HoG because it has ~1s left on the CD, but another ability is obviously up (SB, Corr, BoD, etc). I know a few times I didn't get HoG cast in time to refresh Immolate :(.

Edit:

Lack of good add-ons certainly doesn't help my PTR performance either :p.

Ok, found it under spellbook while for some reason I though it was going to be under the skill menu. Now I just need to figure out why I don't have the membership card.

Doh! What about the items/plans you used to get in the mail at renewal and such?

I believe the comments were beta related, but it put locks as demo-most balanced, then destro-still in need of tweaking, and finally aff lagging behind.

Did see a positive answer on 310% mounts in cata- if you own one you can have all your mounts act as 310% by buying the flying skill. Not sure what skill this is, but believe it's probably the clear weather flying one that allows you to fly through the old world.

I believe all of those items or plans are now retrieved from other sources such as drops, etc.

No, it's the skill that costs 5000g to train.

Just a heads up for anyone who may be interested over here on AT, I am in the process of trying to get a re-roll guild together for the launch of Cata. Instead of just copying over my lengthy post from the official forums, i'll just toss a link to it:

If anyone in interested check out the website, or feel free to contact me on the AT forums if you have any questions.

Hmm. I could definitely be interested in that. I was going to reroll Worgen Prot Warrior on another server, but my few friends there are flaky and I doubt the raiding scene.

I've got extensive (pretty much everything since MC) raiding experience, most of it Prot War MTing, officer and a bit of raid leading experience in slightly more hardcore guilds (20-25 hr/wk, top 250 US type).

I'll check out the site further later, but the amount and times of raiding looks pretty good to me. Although another hour at least each nice would be nice. Not thrilled about the 10-man priority, but obviously it's the logical starting choice with a reroll type guild. Definitely prefer 25 in the long run. What are your experiences raiding/leading, didn't see anything there.

Saved my name on Norgannon.

It's too costly to transfer characters when you have as many as I do :\. If the cost is meant to be an inhibitor to people doing it so often, I don't see why there isn't a reduced cost per character past the first one... a batch move if you will.

But the idea of shelling out $300 to go to a server where I don't even know if I'll like it? Heh, crazy!

Is Patch 4.0.1 this week?
Yes, most likely. I'm still trying to get a confirmation on that but really, It's not like it's going to happen on october 19th a few days before Blizzcon. The super mega awesome info compilation for the patch should be available soon, except if I hear that the patch has been delayed.

310% Speed mount skill
You'll have to pay for the skill, but your mount speed will increase with your riding skill level. This way, you can pretty much roll through all of your favorite mounts without feeling as if you are neglecting any of them.

[...] I apologize for the added confusion. If you have 310% now, the boost is free. (Source)

[...] We want people to be able to pick and choose the mount (or mounts) they enjoy using without feeling like they're being penalized. There are a lot of different mounts to choose from and for some people, that mount they got awhile back that was so awesome, lost its luster after that next fast mount came out. (Source)

and one for aikouka

To help keep Battle.net accounts as secure as possible, we’ve recently changed how Battle.net authenticators can be used. Going forward, Battle.net authenticators can now only be associated with one Battle.net account at a time. No changes are being made to how many game licenses a single Battle.net account can support. You can still have multiple World of Warcraft accounts under a single Battle.net account, for instance, and all game licenses linked with a Battle.net account will still be protected if an authenticator is in use.

Those of you who currently have more than one Battle.net account associated with a single authenticator will be able to maintain your existing setup without needing to do anything. This change will only affect new authenticator attachments. But, if at some point you decide to detach the authenticator from any of your Battle.net accounts for any reason, you won't be able to reattach it if it's already associated with another Battle.net account.

For more information on the Battle.net authenticator and mobile authenticator application (available for free with many mobile carriers), please visit http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/blizzardauth

Lupi, my accounts are all under one Battle.Net account :p.

some people like having all their toons on the same server, never understood why TBH

My own toons create my own personal little economy. You ever have to spend tons of gold on getting some enchant? Well, that's nice, because I never pay for enchants ;). Ever have to worry about gems? Well, I don't because I have 2 JCs with more than enough gems for all 12 80s. The same goes for every profession, because I have each at 450.

I'd feel naked and lost without my ability to simply do everything myself... I don't rely on guildies for anything. I designed my accounts specifically to allow me to do nearly everything solo... kind of odd in a MMO I guess.

that is my opinion also. i'd much rather have all my toons on one server than spread out. i see no benefit in having max level characters on different servers. the only reason i haven't moved all of mine to my new server is b/c i'm finding it difficult justifying spending that much money for transfers. it's certainly not because i don't want them on the same server!
