Yashica!

I pulled out my old Novatron 500 kit and started playing with tabletop photography.

My first post to this thread. Be gentle.

Taken on Canon Rebel T1i with Canon zoom-telephoto lens

I know you asked for gentle, but there's no other way to say this: a T1i can do lot better - the picture is way soft (out of focus). I so want to not put your effort down, but since you own a nice camera, I'm guessing you are willing to learn on it.

What zoom lens were you using, and how far were you zoomed? I get a feeling you have also cropped it on the computer to get a closer look at the bird?

If you like close ups of birds/animals, try it again with
(a) a tripod, or at least rest the camera (or your hands) on some firm surface
(b) brighter sun light
(c) and if either of the above is not possible, don't zoom the lens to the max, as your hand shake gets pronounced

If it is cropped, it's possible the focus point landed outside of the above image and we're not seeing the whole story.

Alternatively, was this shot taken thru a window ?

Thought this pic turned out cool. My new wallpaper:

Nice clouds, and nice 'house' in front. I'm sure it must be dramatic up close.

The power lines in the foreground are the bane of my photography - love the evenings here, but could do without those dang poles and wires.

Yeah I need to get some closer pics of the headframe actually, it's pretty much an icon here. I think they still light it up at night, there's a lake in front, could make for some cool pics. I never think of going out that way.

Was just out taking pics of fireworks (posted a thread), and before it started was just taking misc pics of the area I was standing in, and this turned out pretty cool, edited contrast and exposure a bit to make it darker.

The previous shot I posted was through a window that needed to be cleaned.

This shot was taken at RAW resolution and converted to PNG and cropped.

edit: I steadied my hand against the door frame to take the shot but it still looks blurry.

I got lucky and caught part of a stray meteor in this 50mm shot of the Milky Way.

If you want to see labels of the star clusters and such you can go to Flickr and hover over the image. Flickr quietly re-added their notes feature after 2 years so I went back and added labels to my astrophotography photos on there.

Damn. There is so much light pollution in my area I can't remember the last time I saw the Milky Way. I envy.

Nice one Nohr.

Is it light pollution that creates a purple colour in the sky as mine typically are purpleish, or is that the sun not being quite gone yet? At this time of year I don't think the sun ever goes down 100%. Most of mine tend to be taken in town or near town though. Going camping soon so can't wait to take some more star pics. I'm going to bring a laptop this time so I can verify my pictures better. Last year most of my camping ones turned out blurry.

Was playing around with my fisheye lens just outside my house the other night:

This one turned out cool, my house is one of those. :p

Lots of lens flair and stuff I'm guessing that's from various points of light hitting the lens at just the right angle. Won't be a problem when I go out camping.

It's interesting how the stars change position throughout the year though. Earlier I remember the big dipper being practically straight up, though it was also earlier at night whine I had checked. Would be interesting to take a 1 year time lapse of the stars, taking a pic at the same time of the night.

Thanks guys.

It looks like the light dome of a town/city to me.

That's an impressive amount of sky. All the way from the big dipper and Polaris waaay over to Scorpius in one shot! I see Saturn on the lower left and Mars between a tree and a pole. I'd try doing some star trails with that lens. :)

Yeah I totally want to do star trails when I go out camping. I don't want to leave my camera in the middle of the field in town... chances are it would be fine but best not to chance it. :p I could probably do it in my yard though. Time lapse would be pretty cool too.

This lens is almost 180 degrees of view so pretty impressive for sky photography. Can't wait for the meteor showers in august.

Here's a few from this old DuPont mansion / garden in southeast PA. C&C welcome ... I'm getting back into photography after a few years away and have been obsessed with looking at other people's photos and reading about how to improve my own.
