In Chicago? Sure. The rest of Illinois? Not so much. It is hard to manage decent gun laws when you can circumvent them with a short drive.

Oh, and states with some of the strictest gun laws also have the lowest gun-related deaths, so maybe there is something to having decent laws?

Chicago breaks single-day shooting death record
Chicago has some of the toughest gun-control laws in the country. It also has a new record for shooting deaths in a single day.

The Windy City had nine shooting deaths on Wednesday — its highest rate of single-day fatalities in over a decade. On July 5, 2003, there were 10 homicides in the city. The Chicago Tribune did an extensive analysis of its records before reporting Wednesday’s grim milestone.

The newspaper added that 13 people were shot over the course of 36 hours. Ages of the victims ranged from an 11-year-old boy to a 60-year-old-man.

He'll bury his own daughter this weekend after she was recently gunned down in Indianapolis. He says this isn't just a policing problem or a legislative problem - it's a parenting problem.

"It takes tough parenting to get your kids back in line. If you know that gun is inside your house and you're a parent, you just as likely a cause to the problem. You got people not raising their kids right," Holmes said.

Chicago's metro population is the same as the entire state of Ohio, at about 10 million people, which means the population density is much higher than that of Ohio, or any state in the US.

If you compare population versus population, Chicago has a per capita murder rate lower than southern red state shitholes.

But hey, anything that allows you to talk openly about black people as some particularly classified subset of people is a great conversation starter, if you're a raging bigot and can't find another thread to bitch about black people in!
