1. I like the general culture here. It's not super uptight with an iron fist (unlike teamliquid.net), and it's not retarded all the way. It's a place I can ask/learn about most general things- career, what song is this, movie recommendations, etc.

2. Unlike reddit or other places, the age group doesn't seem to be all teens to 20s. I'm 30 and it looks like most people are closer to my age, which is good for my prior point.

3. I'm sure there are lots of other boards with similar or even better culture. I just don't know enough. Maybe some can recommend?

I cannot recommend a better board, no other is close in my experience. This is very broad, it is moderated but by and large the freedom is terrific. Threads get locked seems to me pretty much because they deserve it. They aren't uptight about "bad" words, I can speak my mind, that's the bottom line. There are a lot of educated, highly educated, some very witty folks.
