I carry because its my RIGHT to carry. And I value my life and the life of my family. I will likely never have to draw my gun EVER in my lifetime.. as is the case with most people with concealed carry permits. If one day however, lightning strikes and I need it, I would rather have a fighting chance than to simply be a victim.

I lived for years in downtown Philadelphia. I never carried a gun. I never was mugged. I am not a particularly scary looking person, either. Do people get mugged in Philly? Yes. perhaps this is more of a move to allow individuals who have completed the CC requirements, more of the basic rights that go with the ability to legally carry concealed. If a business agrees with this reasoning, they will allow it in their establishment; if they don't agree, they can post the appropriate information. The law abiding CC individuals will either leave their firearms at home/in vehicle, or not enter those businesses. Non-CC people can also show their choice by frequenting the different businesses. "Pat-downs" will only impact people illegally carrying.

I see it as nothing more then expansion of an identified privalege that will only impact legally carrying CC individuals.

And i'm sure there are individuals out there with more free time then me, who can search to see the number of firearm related incidents involving legal CC individuals. Last time i searched that data was when there were 32 states allowing CC permits, and at that time i think there was only 1 verified firearm related crime as a direct result of the illegal use of a firearm by a CC holder.

Nope, but I have no problem with legal concealed permit holders doing it. As I have already indicated its legal in the state of Florida to consume alcohol while carrying a gun.. you just can't be in a bar. But if I am sitting outside or in the restaurant itself, and having a beer, its completely legal. Again, I haven't heard of any problems here.

Have you ever actually been in the U.S.? And if you have, ever been in such lovely spots like Chicago, Detroit, Newark or even SE DC?

Wrong place, wrong time, sure, avoid it if you can. What about those who have to live there? The U.S. Supreme Court is going to visit the "right" of individual states and cities to disarm citizens early next year. That should be an interesting debate.

You are not likely to get in the middle of a meth or crack deal gone bad, or ever confront a homicidal maniac but for some people this is more of a reality than a fantasy.

And while Sheffield may be bucolic, places like Manchester and even London have their share of issues.

Don't discount risks that you have never dealt with day after day after day. Just be glad that when you are faced with risk outside of Kabul you have access to body armor and fully automatic weapons - when you get back to Sheffield you will have a dull butter knife to rely on.

I don't care WHO was on the ground first in Afghanistan or Iraq. I respect the people who have gone there and will go there regardless of when they got there. If the Brits got there first then more power to you, thanks for the service, I hope no harm comes to all of you fighting for our countries.
