Wow. It's rare you see two people in the same thread supporting the same complete logical fallacies.
Dainthomas and blackjack200, let's address both your points.
Blackjack200:
Go to any other country and they speak 2 or 3 languages.
Yes. In most countries where English is NOT the first language. You see, english is a nearly universal language, and in most countries you can find english speakers. So, people who live in Vietnam speak Vietnamese and a portion speak.... english. Because it is a necessity to communicate to the world at large. Yet on the other hand, we already speak english.
Blackjack200:
You mean Canada where they speak French, and Mexico where they speak Spanish?
The majority of Canadiens do not speak French. Quebec, on the other hand, speaks largely French. However, they also look down severely on people who can NOT speak French, and also regularly vote to secede from Canada to become their own seperate country. Again, that has nothing to do with their schools, their desire to be more worldly, or anything else to that affect. It's mostly pure arrogance. Hint: I LIVE 5 minutes from Canada and do a ton of business in Canuckistan.
Mexicans speaking spanish is hardly a revelation. However, you will find that many Americans living close to Mexico speak both languages too, again out of necessity. Your logic completely fails on both points.
Dainthomas:
Are you people actually proud that you can only understand one language? In many other advanced countries you're almost required to be bilingual by the time you get out of high school.
LOL WUT? I don't think anyone here said that, but it's a nice strawman to throw in out of the blue. This conversation is about companies being FORCED to speak any language their customer desires. Do you have a problem with continuity of conversation?
In 'many other advanced countries' they don't speak english as a first language. Since it's nearly required in the modern world to speak english, they have to learn it.
For BOTH your information, I took 4 years of German in high school and another 3 in college. Yet I can no longer speak it 14 years later. Because I'm never IN Germany using it, as opposed to people in Europe and other countries who know their native tongues and have to still speak english on a regular basis.
Would you both like to try again with the common myth that we're somehow more stupid in the US because we only speak the languages that we need to speak (like every other country in the world)?
