I think organ donors should get priority over non-organ donors when they need a transplant. This would encourage more people to be donors.
Agreed.

My sister's life was saved by a liver transplant. There are some seriously idiotic posts in this thread. Grow up.

Yes, and I've been the recipient of two transplants (corneas).

Life changing for me, but far more of course for those who are in danger of losing their life.

I remember watching the news a while ago when they showed a reunion of six people, a mother who's son died and five people who received organs from her son. Five lives saved and a woman who can get some solace from her son's tragedy.

I'm an organ donor, and this is pretty much why.

You should have to opt out, not opt in. :( Its a shame the world doesn't work like that.

OJ Simpson gets ill, the ONLY donor match is YOU, that would really suck. Flame on.

Cmon people, this is close to turning into the huge argument thread of the day. We had tipping, shooting wolves, steak temperatures....c'mon trolls, get the fights going. It's entertainment for lurkers.

Yeah... or Senator Lieberman (I really hate that guy) needs a liver, and you're in a coma. You might recover, you might not... but the senator REALLY needs that liver NOW and you're a donor match.

Sorry, but I don't want some doctor killing me off so he can take credit for saving a VIP.

Yes, I know that sounds paranoid, but that's how I roll.

I am a donor for transplants, but I asked not to have my body used for medical research or teaching.

They can have anything they want if they are going to save someone's life directly, but my wife in particular didn't like the thought of a bunch of 1st year med students carving me up like a fetal pig. Personally I would have said yes to both as I figure once I'm dead I'm dead, but I did bend to my wife's wishes regarding the research/teaching.

I like this idea, but there's got to be a reason they haven't done something like that. Would it be illegal? The only issue I could think of is people who can't be organ donors (not sure if there's anything that prevents you as registering, even if your organs can't be used), but I'd just waive the donor requirements for anyone under 18.

Could I, in my will, stipulate that my organs can only be used for those who are themselves organ donors?

That is paranoia. That idea is completely ridiculous.

You do realize they can't take organs when you're dead right. They can't just kill you. They have to prove you are brain dead but your body is still alive to even consider taking your organs.

Your reasoning is dumb.

And yes, I am a donor.

Sure am. I really don't understand what reasons exist not to be an organ donor, but shrug.
