This is going to be one of the most iconic shots in sports history.

Interesting tidbit but him and Degrass the Canadian who is third in the shot are buddies, this shot is basically like him looking at his little brother saying "look at him go"

Bolt said he is the next one after he retires.

Finally saw the race with the "dive", and saw some interviews by other track Olympians about it. Three things stood out.

1) It didn't at all look like she intentionally dove. It looked like she fell. She was quite weak looking at that point.

2) The interviewed track Olympians didn't think she dove either, and just fell.

3) They also said that even if she had chosen to dive, it doesn't matter, because it's perfectly legal.

This is the most relevant part...who cares if it's intentional or not? I do wonder if others will do the dive, risking skin and injuries, to win races in the future. It's slower in baseball because you have to do it earlier in order to be low enough to touch the base but if done perfectly (like she accidentally did here) it might give you the couple of inches necessary to win the race.

I don't mind the dive. Person diving risks injuries that may end his/her career for one medal -- head first at full speed into solid ground. Doesn't seem like there's much of a pay-off. Other than Usain Bolt, is anyone raking in the sponsorship dough from running?

In her interview today she very specifically said that she dove for the finish. I don't have a problem with it, but it was intentional.

Not sure if this video has been posted before.
Not sure how this would reflect with the 2016 Olypics

Usain Bolt vs 116 years of Olympic sprinters

It was intentional, she said it was. It is legal, just lame. Its a run, not a fucking run/slide.

The same exact thing happened to Felix (the female in this race too) in the 200m Olympic tryouts with another US runner, who just lost a semi 200m. Thats twice recently that someone dove to barely beat her. I am a huge Felix fan, just sucks for her.

The American in the 400 looks to have tried a full speed burst too soon. Her stride rate looked to take a definite hit with about 20m to go.
With 40m to go, it looked like Felix was ready to out-kick the other woman. But it appeared that the extra gear never arrived.

Wow, Brazil owned Kerri Walsh tonight. Fantastic match though, some very slick rallies in the second set.

Brazilian synchronized diving team splits after sex scandal. And today it was revealed that Oliveira was lambasted for posting a ‘provocative’ photo of herself in a swimsuit the day before her first individual jump at the Pan American Games in Toronto last year.

  • Ingrid Oliveira is said to have slept with compatriot Pedro Goncalves
  • It allegedly happened the night before she was due to dive at Rio 2016
  • ‘Marathon’ of sex is said to have infuriated teammate Giovanna Pedroso

I don't think the Toronto picture is a big deal, but if I were the team partner, I'd also be furious if I was kicked out of my room the night before I'm supposed to compete at the Olympics.

Controversial decisions lead to suspension of boxing judges

After Russian fighters were awarded victories in a pair of controversial decisions at the Rio Olympics, boxing's ruling federation has expelled a number of judges and referees it determined were not performing "at the level expected."

The International Boxing Assn., known as AIBA, did not disclose the number of officials suspended, but the BBC reported six of the 60 judges in Rio will no longer work at the Games.

AIBA spokesman Nicolas Jomard would neither confirm nor deny that number.

Boxers and national team coaches have complained about a number of decisions, prominent among them Russian Vladimir Nikitin's unanimous decision over Michael John Conlan of Ireland in a bantamweight quarterfinal Tuesday and Monday's heavyweight final, in which Russian Evgeny Tischenko won a unanimous decision over Kazakhstan's Vasiliy Levit.

How can you knock somebody down FIVE times in ONE (3 min) round and still lose the round?
http://deadspin.com/5931226/was-this-disgraceful-olympic-boxing-match-fixed

God I HATE judged sports.

They actually moved to the judged system this Olympics, in the past it was computer assisted scoring.

It figures the first Olympics this system is introduced a Russian athlete benefits and the judges are dismissed for investigation.

From state sponsored doping to bribing officials the entire Russia Federation needs to be kicked out. What a disgusting country.

So....women's water polo....

Is there a legitimate aerodynamic reason for their one piece suits to basically be thongs in the back? I grew up as a swimmer and certainly enjoyed how the ladies looked in their Speedos but these suits take it to a whole different level.

I'm not complaining (other than the segment producers obviously avoiding the camera angles from behind as much as possible), but I do wonder if there is a competitive advantage or if it's just a way to get more viewers.
