Are you going to watch Rio Olympic?

Hell yes. Olympics are incredible. I'm very excited!

Everyone here is hipster though, so no one likes anything. Everyone hates the games because hipster.

I want to but NBCs coverage of the Olympics makes that impossible and im too lazy to VPN into a country that knows what its doing with sports broadcasting

Love the Olympics, have watched them all for as long as I can remember. Considering not watching the Rio games though. I feel for all the athletes that have trained their entire lives to make it to the Games only to have the scum running the IOC send them to Rio which is woefully unprepared for an event like this.

I normally do but given the sewage, those doped up Ruskies and the general poor organisation of these "paupers" olympics will make this the first one I will miss since 88.

I will in fact not even turn on a TV for the duration.

I have a feeling the Olympics will go away in a decade or so. Seems like every country who hosts it goes broke, no one really cares about it and most people would rather do summer fun things than sit at home watching the Olympics. I have not cared about summer Olympics in a very long time.

Are the Russians back in it?
Or are they still banned?

Both.

I think they ended up sending something like 250 out of the original 400 or so they originally planned for.

I'll still watch the events I care about. I grew up swimming competitively, so I enjoy watching the swimming events.

this seems really unlikely. it would be far more likely that one country hosts permanently the for each of summer and winter, and then if that fails (after 50+years) MAYBE it will go away. If another country doesn't want it.

Personally I'd favour the idea of one country hosting. I love the Olympics. Nothing better.

I didn't realize there are Olympics coming up soon. Yeah I'm out of touch with stuff like this now. No interest either I guess. That'll be a no for me.

I'd prefer the idea of one country hosting: actually benefits the host country and can serve to alleviate a decent amount of the corruption for the Swiss-based IOC.

The summer Olympics should only ever be in Athens, imo. And I think it would be a good thing for Greece, to be able to use those boondoggle stadiums and athletic centers and actually see some real revenue for the country that desperately needs it--infrastructure improvement every 4 or even 8 years brings dependable work to people.

The Olympics are disasters for host countries because those expenses never see ongoing revenue generation. Rather than spend all that cash to see a slight, single bump in revenue, better to make a dependable revenue stream every 4 years, no?

The concern being whether or not the massively corrupt Greek government uses that revenue for good works.
