I love when people say things like this. Just to confirm, you have never:

1) chipped in with friends to buy a keg/12 pack/bottle of alcohol
2) chipped in with roomates to buy a piece of furniture or food
3) given someone some money to cover gas who gave you a ride somewhere

??

How is pooling money to pay for rent/food/parties buying friends when fraternities/sororities do it but ok when anyone else does it?

Because all of your examples above don't have to be paraded under a "frat" name. And I didn't have to join a club to meet the people that I'm lending/splitting/pooling these things too/with.

Yes....I was in Phi Mu Alpha, a music fraternity. I thought it was a good experience while I was in school.

Okay so that gives you the right to ridicule those who joined one and it worked for them?

I am basing my statment on the assumption that you very likely do it in real life as well.

he is just trolling. His entire statement was based on some radical assumption that anyone in a fraternity cannot make friends and does not have friends outside of the fraternity. he's got his mind made up already let him be happy.

You'd be correct. So your going to ridicule me over my ridiculing of other people and their store-bought friends?

Wow, it is the 'frat' part that you have a problem with? Talk about shallow. Alot of people that join fraternities knew people before hand. Additionally, many clubs in college require dues or mandatory participation in events. Fraternity dues pay for a place to meet, hang out, party, and pays for the items in the party.

Now, if you were complaining about the general fraternity atmosphere, can't argue with that. Most are quite arrogant.

Nope. But it's no better than me going out of my way to ridicule the disabled, some religion, etc etc.

That's basically what I'm saying. If it didn't work for you, and it doesn't affect you, then why go out of your way to flame those it did/does work for?

I suppose I'd like to hear more of his opinion. Ie. his reasons for why he hates girls/guys in frat/sororities.

I have had enough of my brother-in-law's slip me the pinky that I feel like an honorary Sigma Chi.

(yes, I am aware how dirty it sounds, but it's a handshake thing...)

Oh I don't go out of the way to ridicule them, but when the opportunity arises!

No, it's just that whenever I hang out at a gathering of his college buddies, they try to give me the secret handshake.
