think of it this way: it travels ~15x faster than you can

I can run 20mph

Sure you can...

Fastest record is from Michael Johnson and he came out to 10.35 m/s or around 23.15 and I would like to see you keep that up for 10 minutes. 😛

Maybe you are pointing the radar down there while your hand is busy... 😛

Johnson's top speed was well over that...that number is the average over 200 meters. I believe I remember Bob Costas saying during those Olympics, that when Johnson hit the straight portion of the track, he would hit just over 30 mph.

Edit: Although I still maintain Costas said that, it appears that the fastest instantaneous velocity of a sprinter is about 27 mph. Text

O RLY?

The world record for the 100 meter dash is 22mph.

so, you think his car can do 330mph?

And yes, Ive run ~ 20mph when i was in HS next to a car... of course not for very long, if was off by a few mph please excuse me 🙂

Aren't you the guy who claimed to have ran a mile in three minutes?

Are you ****** stupid lol....

My best mile ever was like 5-6 mins... In college I ran 2 miles in 12 mins (2 6 minute miles) give or take

Thank you for backing up my point that it is possible for an athletic person to hit 20 mph at least, even if it is for a short period of time 😛

I was just pointing out that 15x that speed isnt really accurate.. its a weird comparison in general..... average cars max speed is 120 lets say, sustainable. My max speed sustainable until I "run out of gas' is probably 4 mph, so it would be closer to 30x my speed... but max speed of a human and sustainable speed of a human isnt the same as athe max speed of a car vs sustainable

damn i think my brain is stupider for having typed that

Much more practical than other means of transportation.
I think she means since people are driving huge SUV's and trucks.
No, even a compact car weighs a ton-and-a-half. "Huge SUV's and trucks" can weigh 3 tons or more.

What the OP misses is that most of a car's weight is devoted to the safety cage that surrounds the driver and passengers. Get rid of that and you'd have a much more efficient vehicle. 😉

:Q

I agree. It's a very selfish & wasteful not to mention pollluting form of transport.

Kudos to those who walk, ride a bike, or ride public transport!

Really... we all should be driving these instead. 😛

how do you expect me to go to work at random times,
when called because of snow, freezing rain, etc....

I live about 8 miles from my job.

Yeah I could have bought a house closer to my job;
would have been easier if I made double what I do.

The cheaper homes, walking distance from my work are $125,000. and Up.

Out of my price range.

Yeah..OP you live in NYC, where public transportation is everywhere. Many of the rest of us have no other practical way of getting from Point A to B.

Actually I'm in NYC less than two months a year and that figure goes down from there. 🙂

yeah i live in KY and work in OH right across the river

if i could swim better ........

Once you can teleport me to where I need to be I'll give up my car .....well I'd still want it for weekends.

Depends where you live. I drive over 40,000 miles a year. Work is 75 miles. I only go once a week though and sleep there 3 or 4 days. Costco is 70 miles. Heck the nearest store as in grocery is 30 miles. I could'nt bear to walk.

they weigh a lot because they have to. safety structure/stiffness to take high speeds blabbity blah blah. sure u can make something small and light like a segway, but make one go 65-70mphand u'll end up adding things until it becomes a car😉

motorbikes are hugely more paractical: think fuel economy, space taken on the road, parking, etc.
Bicycles use energy exerted 3x more efficiantly than if you're on foot.

Cars are safer, and better when it's pouring with rain...

Motorbikes are practical until you get hit by a car. Then it's over, or best case vegetable farm or traction or both.

Scratch the 'quick' from your answer and I'd agree. A motorbike is quicker in pretty much every possible way. Not to mention the feeling of being on a fast bike is on par with decent sex. Seriously.

i live in a rural area
it is 45 miles from my house to my workplace

do you have a practical alternative for me?

How far? And how long does it take you? When spring rolls around I'd like to do the same. Not to save money on gas or anything like that, just for the exercise.

After driving down to Florida for a week and needing our Grand Caravan minivan to haul all of our stuff for two adults, a toddler, and an infant...yes...they are extremely practical.
