I often wonder the same thing about FPS games. different strokes for different folks

From the CNN article:
There are a number of lessons we can glean from this -- not just for the future of videogame consoles, but the future of consumer electronics. Decades from now, PS3 vs. Wii will be remembered as a cautionary business tale: how pride, politics, and an overabundance of technology can blind you to the simple truth of what consumers want.

My brother has one and never plays it. Who woulda thought.

It's kind of amusing that people say the Wii is meant solely for gaming, yet it has a weather application and internet browser, which even the XBOX 360 doesn't have. The Wii isn't nearly as "purist" as people make it out to be, and not that not being "pure" is a bad thing, but I hate people bringing it up when it's simply not true.

Personally, I've never been a huge fan of the Wii. I've seen it, used it, played it... and I'm still not impressed. I find the controls more annoying than they are immersing. Not to mention the controller's layout is fairly poor for some games that may require multiple buttons. A perfect example of that is the Wii's Prince of Persia game.

Xbox fanboys are the fuggin worst. So defensive about everything.
If I owned an XBOX 360, I might agree with you.

Got news for you. Third-party exclusives do exist (MGS4, FFXIII). Development costs are going up, but they were easy to recoup when you were exclusive to the highest selling console (by-a-mile). That's obviously not the case anymore.

Multi-platform development is more popular nowadays, but it's a fools errand to pretend these titles were multi-platform from the get-go (especially since several were announced specifically as exclusives last year before the PS3 launched). PS3 launched, sales tanked, developers jumped from the 'exclusives' ship.

get back to work, son! those burgers won't flip themselves ya know

I have had a Wii since launch and to me the games just are not that great. And after Super Paper Mario, there aren't many games coming out any time soon that catch my interest. There will be a big drought until the fall.

I am overall pretty disappointed with the Wii. Considering it was only $250 I don't really care, but there just is not much I play on it. When people come over though, we'll have a good time playing Wii Bowling or something. But there aren't many games that are played on it in general. It basically collects dust now.

The $250 price is definitely helping it out considering the next closest thing is $400 (the Core doesn't count, its a piece).

360 is all I play currently and w/out Xbox Live, I probably wouldn't play my 360 at all. I'm not big on single player gaming as much as I used to be and mainly enjoy multiplayer.

When the PS3 drops to around $300 I'll consider one. But there just is nothing coming out for it that I would spend $600 initially to play. Not 1 game in it's near future. It's just too expensive.

In all fairness, I think that MS people are kind of trying to mock Sony at this point.

Hmm.... That's just mainly marketing nonsense. The first quote is a simple truth, thought not something he should've said in public/on record.

Care to find anything that even comes to close to "$599 is too cheap! You should all be paying twice that, and thanking us!"?

And if you like sports games just forget about it. The thing is, I had a gamecube and once you get sick and tired of the stuff nintendo puts out, you're pretty much screwed in the third party area because of the gimmicky, non-standard controls.

The PS3 will do fine when it finally gets the gas too. It's the bottom line line that is hurting it, but sony is still putting PS2 as the main console for now so they are not that worried. The price of PS3 may be high, but they know people will buy the xbox 360 thinking it is a cheaper package. Out of the box, it is cheaper, but once you start adding wireless and the DVD player, forget about it. It's the same price as the PS3.

Oh good lord. First of all, the weather application can, in no way, give points to the Wii. Adding a weather forcast to a console does not suddenly make the console a more viable and multitasking piece of equipment in your media rack. Second of all, I still stand by my opinion that noboby uses browsers on consoles. Sure, you have your small minority, but putting a browser on a console does NOT sell consoles. If Microsoft announced a browser for the 360, they would not sell any more consoles than if they leave it out.

Not everybody needs wireless or a next-gen DVD format player. Although I do think Microsoft has the wireless adapter WAY overpriced. I guess when people stop buying it, they'll lower the price.

And I think that Sony is worried, but they'll obviously never let us know that they are. We'll be able to gauge their thoughts on how quickly a price cut comes around, which I'd be surprised if it isn't within 6 months.

And for the people who have an ethernet cable and a set-top DVD player; forget about it, just pay more anyways?

At the end of the day, consoles are all about playing games. Come October, tens of millions of GTA fans will be given a simple choice to play the newest iteration of their favorite series: $299 XBOX 360 or $599 PS3.

Leave your arguments about Blu-Ray, HDMI, wireless this-and-that, at home. Most TVs in the world are still standard definition anyways. With the gaming experience being equal, which one will people choose? The lower priced option, every time.

Actually, somebody did a comparison and the Wii is actually even with the Xbox at best (if I remember correctly). I'll see if I can find it.

I've held off buying a Wii.

The day it came out, my neighbour got one and I immediately went to visit. We played Wii Sports for an hour... thirty minutes in, the novelty was wearing off and I was wishing that the remote was more precise. Since then, I've played almost every game on the console and have yet to be really impressed.

Zelda should really be played with a regular GameCube controller. The Wii controls are such a hack.

WarioWare Smooth Moves was entertaining... for about half an hour.

Far Cry is awful.

Call of Duty isn't as bad as Far Cry, but still pretty annoying.

WiiPlay... A Wii game consisting of minigames? Never seen that before!

Rayman: Raving Rabbids was pretty damned funny and is probably the best game I've played on the console to date.

It's the old Nintendo issue all over again - a dearth of quality 3rd party titles.

well if you think about it. the Wii is a jazzed up cube...

the wii is doing well simply because of who it appeals to. for instance my gf couldnt care less about a 360 or a ps3. but she like the idea of a DS and or a Wii because her and her girl firends can ham it up infront of the tv and play Wii drinking games. it appeals to people not normal interested in computer games...and theres a hell of alot more of those around that those who are.

its definately got that ipod/bmw factor. you could put those badges on a cat poo at people will still pay money for it.

of course, DBZ, the M3 is actually worth paying money for.....though i think you should upgrade to a E39 M5.

what you gonna get after the M3? another M3? or the 335i?

I'm mainly a computer gamer. Haven't been much of a console gamer since the original PS, though I did buy and enjoy my PS2 quite a lot. That being said, the only console I will buy in the next year or two is a wii. The wii is what a console is supposed to be - a fun party center. It's not a computer, not a home theatre, and that's great with me (and obviously most of the world).

He is making the arguement that the Wii is not a "pure" gaming system, that it has extra bells and whistles like the other 2 do. He cites a stupid weather forecast and simple browser as his proof that the Wii is more than just a gaming machine. I disagreed with him. Not to hard when you actually read the posts, eh?

Is it typical to attack the person when you can't attack their argument?
