Just to elaborate more on my "wii is for children" rant. According to nintendo.com and xbox.com the wii has 4 released or planned M rated games. All 4 being spin offs or ports. The 360 has 39 M rated games.

Of course the 360 has been out longer, but the wii is simply targeted towards kids. I have to slow of an internet connection, but the amount of E rated games on the wii is enourmous.

And of course, having an M or T rating doesn't make a game better. But think about what movies you like. Are they PG, PG-13, R, or NC17?

One last note, there doesn't seem to be any AO (adult only) games out for any of the 3 current gen systems. Nobody wants to completely edge out children from buying their games.

I'm pretty sure that those are totals over each system's lifetime.

The Wii might be selling great, but I'd like to see numbers on how many games have been sold. I'm guessing that since a TON of customers who are buying the Wii aren't your typical, normal gamer, that they also aren't going to drop $40 to $50 for games like normal gamers do.

With few units sold, it doesn't make sense for game developers to make a great exclusive game for that console. Without great (preferably exclusive) games, there is little reason for the consumer to spend premium bucks on a premium console.... and the cycle continues. To get out of the cycle, sony's going to have to drop the price on the console significantly, and they are going to have to pay some developers to develop exclusive titles for the PS3.

the playstation brand is too strong for that...they've sold what...250 million ps1+ps2 put together?

Granted the PS3 was met with far less success than its predecessors, but it's not like Sony can't afford to drop the price and pay for exclusive titles.

Agreed, it's a little too soon.

The PS3 caused Sony to post a loss as a company for the lasts fiscal year. The games division lost $2 billion alone.

wow...the ps3 isnt very far behind the wii at all. and the psp is holding its own.
I'm not sure what made you think they SOLD 5.5 million. Yes, they SHIPPED 5.5 million, but they only sold 3.6 million to date (from the same article).

Guess it's time to backpedal.

It's not uncommon for consoles in their infancy to produce losses for the manufacturer. Give it time.

I'm not worried, I'll purchase a PS3 when MGS4 comes out. Until then. *shrug*

Let's compare the list of lost exclusives.

XBOX 360:
Wii:
PS3: Devil May Cry 4, Ace Combat 6, Beautiful Katamari, Grand Theft Auto IV, Assassin's Creed, Armored Core 4, Fatal Inertia, Blade Storm: The Hundred Years' War, Virtua Fighter 5

Would you blame them? Anemic sales month after month for the PS3...if I were developing a game, I'd rather have 11 million potential customers than 3.3 million.

Wow, the Wii is really killing right now. I don't think anyone, even Nintendo, would really have thought it'd have the success it's having now.

You know, I hate sony as much as the next person, but I just don't see the PS3 flopping as much as I'd like. Didn't the PS2 have a slow start too? By the end of this year, we might have a better picture. Because if I don't see SSBB or Metroid with online play by dec 07, I will be very very disappointed in Nintendo.

Which would explain why the #3 and #4 top selling games for this month are Wii games?

PS3 didn't even have a single game in the top 10 for the month. The XBOX 360 had two (#5 and #7).

Got news for you. Look at the third-party games down the road and they are almost all going to the 360 and PS3. It would be one thing if they went 360 exclusive. They didn't. It's not that the PS3 lost exclusives, it's that that concept of exclusives has pretty much gone out the window in the age of $20M development costs.

Xbox fanboys are the fuggin worst. So defensive about everything.

Well I have a 360 and barely play it.

Halo was horrible, I thought I would like it. A friend who was an avid Halo fan kinda tipped me over into getting the 360.

Another main reason I got it was oblivion. Other than that all the games have been crap. Gears of War was crap. I can't find any game that appeals to me. So my Xbox sits there collecting dust, ever since oblivion wore off.

If I owned an XBOX 360, I might agree with you.

Got news for you. Third-party exclusives do exist (MGS4, FFXIII). Development costs are going up, but they were easy to recoup when you were exclusive to the highest selling console (by-a-mile). That's obviously not the case anymore.

Multi-platform development is more popular nowadays, but it's a fools errand to pretend these titles were multi-platform from the get-go (especially since several were announced specifically as exclusives last year before the PS3 launched). PS3 launched, sales tanked, developers jumped from the 'exclusives' ship.

Why are you so emotionally invested in the failure of the PS3?

Why do you need it to succeed when you only use it to watch movies?

I have TallBill's same question. What games do people play on Wii? I could care less about sales figures or whether its a kid system (I have a DS) but seriously what games are there? Everything I see just looks gimmicky and I know for me at least it would get old really fast.

I think I'm going to get a PS3 in the fall, I'm really looking forward to Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. I like the platform/shooter genre the most.

I don't care if it fails or succeeds. We have all 3 of the current gaming systems plus an XBox and I don't play games on any of them.

Not so much emotionally invested in the failure of the PS3, but we'd like to Sony get what's coming to it because of all the arrogancy, the idiocy, and the complete and utter scorn for their customer base.

Kind of like how some feel about Microsoft?
