low fructose fruits are best if you value how you feel:
avocado, tomato, olive, cashew,
maybe cantalope?

It's that favorite time of year again... mango season is a bit late this year, but is getting into full swing now. Need to get a bb gun or something because the squirrels and iguanas are doing some major culling this year. Every morning I walk outside and find a dozen or so half-chewed mango corpses sprawled under the trees. Green spikey fruit in the middle is soursop/guanabana.

Apples are arguably the best because they keep best (in the fridge) of any fruit I can think of that hasn't been dehydrated other than maybe a date. But always buy (or pick) organic or pesticide free apples, they spray nasty chemicals on them.

I think citrus keeps longer than apples.

oh god don't put apples in the fridge!
And why not? Been doing it for years, in plastic bags and they keep weeks and weeks and weeks. I seldom if ever detect any kind of deterioration.

Refrigerated or unrefrigerated? In my experience oranges sometimes get a swiftly developing mold if left unrefrigerated.

I'm going to hit my fave produce supplying market this AM. I'm down to bananas (always have organic bananas on hand from Costco) and a couple of organic apples and whatnot in my freezer or raisins and dates, dried figs and dried apricots.

Fresh fruit! My plum trees figure to come in in around a month but they peter out in a matter of a few weeks. No use even looking at them until I see some drop due to birds pecking on them.

I have bumper crops on all my trees this year with the rain we got in CA. My 6x9' peach tree has about 400 peaches and I already lost two branches to weight. Plums and nectarines almost the same. Apples and citrus all doing great. First time my three year old almond trees have nuts. Think I'm going to have to make jams and stuff this year with excess.

Getting close to end of harvest for starfruit. Bumper crop this year from Dec - Feb. Need to prune the tree way back today.

Don't know what they taste like but they sure look tasty!

Back from a cruise this morning and arrived to the best time of the year at our house... lychees are at their prime and mangoes are just starting to ripen.

Mangos rule, but they rot apace. Apples are top shelf because they keep so well in my refrigerator... weeks, weeks...

Mangos are messy, apples so much simpler to eat.

I wash my apples, dry them and then refrigerate. I take an apple from the fridge, quarter it carefully, slice out the core parts, put on plate and microwave 20 seconds (depending on size) and scarf.

Season is still rather early and most of the mangoes are being picked from 1 of the 10 or so currently fruiting trees.

Gonna need some Bubba inspiration here - we got mango salsa, mango dressing, frozen mangoes (for smoothies - will fill the whole freezer and will last most of the year), etc. Will use the salsa tonight atop some snapper caught over the weekend.

i'm still going with mangosteens as the best fruit

Mangosteen is awesome, but outside of Hawaii you can't really get decent ones in the USA (all the stuff shipped over from Asian countries is usually disgusting). Fresh mangosteen is amazing.

That's ridiculous. Of course apples should be kept in the fridge. They'll stay fresh and crisp much longer that way and are refrigerated at every step of the process from picking to purchase. They go immediately from tree to cold storage, they're shipped in refrigerated trucks, kept in a refrigerated warehouse, sent to a store where they're kept in the produce cooler and displayed on refrigerated shelves. If you want them at room temperature for eating or cooking take them out of the refrigerator an hour or two before you intend to use them.

apple is best in pastries and pies, otherwise there are many other fruits ahead of it to eat plainly. pretty much any berry, bananas, mangos, oranges, tangerines, grapefruits, insert perverted joke here about my gf's box

Never heard of mangosteen, what's that?

I got into mangoes in Hawaii, used to get them free under wild trees. Loved them, but here in CA I have been disappointed. I think the ones I've bought are from Mexico? Maybe they're not the same. Probably picked prematurely?

Apples are so much easier to eat than all those others you mentioned. A really good apple is wonderful.

I should have said 20 seconds, = 1/3 minute. But that is for a very small apple. A large one would require up to 40 seconds.

Point is, a refrigerated apple is 40F. After a few seconds in the microwave it's at around 75F. I enjoy it more like that. Also, my teeth aren't so great and biting into a cold apple can hurt.
