So... turns out that Always On Siri isn't really that "always on". It doesn't work in your pocket. Ugh, I REALLY wish I knew this before buying the phone as it probably would've changed my mind. I currently have a Lutron Caseta setup, which means I can control my lights with Siri, but I'd prefer to do that with it in my pockets. Schlage is also coming out with a Homekit-enabled lock, and that's far less useful now that Hey Siri can't be used in a pocket.

Mine is working like a dream. I did "set up as new iPhone" and configured without an Apple ID, then went to beta.apple.com/profile and installed the profile for iOS 9.1 public beta 2, installed the OTA update, wiped the phone, and restored from my iCloud backup.

Mine is pretty quick as long as I don't run into that long pause bug. The bug can actually occur almost anywhere, which is what makes me think that I just need to reinstall with the full-fledged file. However, the whole point of OTA updates is to stop users from having to download 2GB files when all they need are a few MB. If OTA files keep causing all these problems, which given the fact that it happened on my 6+ with 9.0 and my 6S+ with 9.0.1 that seems to be the case, that's not good.

My problem is that it's nice to be able to ask basic questions, but I don't want to be able to send text messages and make phone calls while my phone is locked. Huge issue for me.

Well darn. My 6s came around Friday, and I was home all day so I could sign for it, but I had to use the restroom and the FedEx guy came and went in that amount of time. Now it won't be delivered until Monday, but I don't get home until 6-6:30 Monday, and FedEx also won't allow it to be picked up at my local fedex store. First world problems I guess, but still. 🙁

Yeah, that's certainly a good point. I don't normally do that with Siri, but I was looking forward to changing songs with my phone in my pocket. Although, earlier today, it would've been nice to send texts with Siri as my hands were gunked up from baking and I was receiving texts.

It's actually paired with your voice, so that's less likely to happen.

That may be new with the phone released on Friday, or with iOS 9...but we just tested and my twin brother's voice activated mine from across the room.

Twins might sort of negate the Siri training 🙂 I don't know how discriminating it is, TBH.

Ah! For those times when I need 50 tabs open, despite only being able to look at one at a time.

You mean: "For those times when I need to look at another page to get a piece of information while composing a post, but the original page reloads when I come back --- and the post I was writing is lost."

Story of my life with anandtech and an iPhone 4s.

Better get an Apple Watch.

So copy your text to the clipboard. You should do that on the desktop too.

I was looking at the girlfriends galaxy S4 this morning and saw she had 114 tabs open in chrome, and her phone wasn't slow. I showed her how to close tabs.

Haha... maybe that's Apple's plan for those of us that need more ways to access our phone. Although, the problem is that my work banned all smartwatches and Fitbits. Of course, since the one company there gave all their employees a Fitbit, I still see people with them.

Why'd they ban them?

If I am leaving the post/app TO get something from somewhere else then there is a VERY HIGH CHANCE that I am using the clipboard to bring it back. :colbert: Gee, it's like you've never used iOS before.

You can't have two sets of data in your clipboard without jailbreaking.

The day before yesterday I was using the Notes app to compose a large post and was going between Tapatalk app, Youtube app, and Safari to get different elements. When I tried to tap the title bar to scroll to the top of the notes app it somehow thought I was sliding in from the upper left corner and it started taking me back to the list of all notes. I stopped and started dragging it back to the left but it something weird happened and the note refreshed and showed me an old version from HOURS earlier. I think it somehow though I touched the note I was already in on the list of note even though I was still in it (never left).

Even this is because there wasn't enough memory to compose my post in the browser. I took precautionary steps and STILL lost hours of work. iOS with 1GB of memory is UNBEARABLE. If it were not for a jailbreak tweak to keep iOS from unloading Tapatalk then I would have had to browse back to the thread, page, and post I was on hundreds of times. No, it doesn't cause the issue. I did the Safari/Tapatalk/Youtube shuffle often enough without the tweak to know that I would have lost everything many times over without it.

Why 2GB of RAM in the iPhone 6s is a big deal for everyone (Video)

But how much does the extra RAM truly benefit day to day usage on a phone? Is it something that everyday users will notice, even if Apple refuses to place emphasis on it? Watch our video pitting the iPhone 6 Plus vs the iPhone 6s Plus, and see for yourself.

https://youtu.be/L0-6ZaFZubQ

There’s really not much else to be said here, as the video pretty much says it all. There simply wasn’t enough RAM in older iPhones to create a good experience in Safari, not to mention other apps and the OS itself. With only 1GB of RAM, there wasn’t enough resources for Safari to keep many tabs in memory.

Doesn't work when the other thing you're trying to get needs to go on the clipboard so you can bring it back to your post.

I've learned all the tricks. Even on my 6 Plus, I used to copy my post to Notes before I go get that missing bit of info. Now, I just hit "preview" so it submits the current data. When Safari tries to reload the page after I return to my post, I allow it to resubmit data. It still gets screwed up (reverting to the mobile site instead of the full/desktop site), but I don't lose my post.

1. Copy your post
2. Open the second page
3. Go back and see if your post is still there, if not, paste
4. Get content from the second page and paste in your post

I know how iOS handles memory. I'm not relying on luck to make sure my content isn't refreshed whether I have 1GB or RAM or 16GB. I do the same thing on the desktop.

Then you get an important phone call in the middle of that and it ruins everything. Heaven help you if you need to look up something on your phone for the person calling you. With 1GB RAM, whatever you're working on is at risk of being lost.

I still hate that incoming calls dont behave like any other notification. It's *not* OK for it to cancel my video recording!
