Intel made apple aside from the ipod imo

I actually liked my dual G5 - 64bit RISC is the shit. Too bad ibm couldn't keep up with x86.

What's up with this?

Uhh, it appears to be Windows 7. Did you think we'd all be shocked that you're running a Windows machine? Most Mac users also have a Windows machine, for when they need to do real work instead of just dicking around.

The only reason why I keep an XP image around is for office and .NET...

For any sort of development that uses open source tools, Mac is the bomb. I've got macports loaded up and anytime i need whatever library (boost for c++, anything for python) it takes no time to at all to get going.

On a slightly different route, microsoft did a crap job for the XP to 7 upgrade. To my dismay, the easy transfer thing doesn't actually back up any of the programs (regardless of comaptibility); it essentially just copies documents and app data for each user.

Not Vista SP3 (aka Windows 7).

FYI, Vista and 7 are different operating systems. Might want to get your facts straight.

And you want us to believe you're a developer? Please. Windows 7 is a major release but they retain the version 6 and increment the subversion to maintain application compatibility for apps that check the API version number. They did the same thing with Windows 2000 (v5.0) and Windows XP (v5.1).

Microsoft can't even get a versioning system right?

Ok, this just indicates you're stupid.

What did they change exactly? A lot of the backend still looks the same - for example driver loading is still pretty useless (automatic search or add a folder to search) and the "have a disk" part still defaults to A: ... who the hell has even seen a floppy in the last 5 years?

Geez.... like Apple has never had a version of Mac OS that was bad.

I don't think the point of these ads was ever to really attack Microsoft. It just sells more of their computers to smug users who think that they are better because of a product that they buy.

Actually, Mac users are better because they have the intelligence to research and select a superior product. Once you look objectively at both Macs and PCs, any intelligent person will come to the conclusion that the Mac is just a better overall product. The only reason why people say Mac users are 'smug' is because they know they cannot compete on any level, be it intellectually, physically, or socially with the majority of Mac users. Everyone knows this.
That said.

We all know that Mac desktop, workstation, and servers are us in every school, enterprise, and government. Even Chinese knows the virtue of Apple hence they are pirating Apple DOS for distribution.

I do real work on a Linux machine, and dicking around (gaming) on Vista.

To whose whining about the version number - turn your brain on for this question. Do you consider Windows 2000 and Windows XP to be different operating systems? I sure as hell do, and yet they both had the same major version of the underlying system too.

lol at all the bitching and complaining in the comments.

especially since Gateway 2000 had retail stores before Apple did so it's not like Apple invented the idea of a computer showroom. Of course, the small profit margins on PCs made retail stores a burden for companies like Gateway.

Funny how the comments on Engadget get ranked: Pro Microsoft ones are generally ranked high while pro Apple ones are generally ranked low.

Heh, I remember going into a Gateway store with a girl and her parents trying to pick out the best computer for her. The whole time thinking, "man, I could build better shit for cheaper".

That's the "problem" with PCs.

The gap is a LOT closer these days than 10 years ago. Especially if it's just a internet/office machine. I built my current PC, but I don't think I'll build my next. Although the one I have now should last for quite a while. Q6600, 8800 GTX, 4 GB RAM.

I used to build a new one every year or so, but I've had this machine built for about 2 years now without any upgrades, and no intentions on upgrading any time soon.

that's the problem I have with macs.

I will never be able to bring myself to put down $2+ grand on an operating system that I've only ever used in passing; I'd have no problem spending a hundred to buy the OS and install it on my existing hardware, though.
