Uh, I was wondering why Windows 7 is Windows version 6.1.

And stop biting the Onion.
What's your point? Windows 2000 and XP are listed as version 5.x.

And you want us to believe you're a developer? Please. Windows 7 is a major release but they retain the version 6 and increment the subversion to maintain application compatibility for apps that check the API version number. They did the same thing with Windows 2000 (v5.0) and Windows XP (v5.1).

Microsoft can't even get a versioning system right?

It is right. Here's the deal - the Windows API is virtually unchanged and any program that is compatible with Windows Vista is assumed to be compatible with Windows 7. But some installers will check version numbers during the install, and will refuse to install if the major version number isn't supported by the software. Because we know that the program will be compatible with 7 if it works on Vista, there's no reason to change the major version number. If this has you confused I'd hate to see how contorted your face becomes when the Subway girl is asking you what you want on your sandwich.

This Apple commercial, just like the others, is designed for those who don't know any better and just enjoying spending a little extra for the warm and fuzzy feeling of "superiority." Anyone who knows anything realizes this ad is just another in the string of awful Mac vs PC ads. The best part is that the vast, vast, vast majority of users will still be using Windows.

Stop arguing with the ignorant fanboys, it'll get you no where! Your logic has no place here!

I like how Apple keeps harping on "the number one customer satisfaction" as a reason to choose apple over the competition. However, who is the competition they are referring to? Microsoft? Dell, HP, Gateway?

Anyways, I bet the Linux guy could kick both PC guy and Mac Guy's asses.

Just out of curiosity, is there any other company whose advertising campaign focuses mainly on the negatives (real or perceived) of a competitor's product?
I know I've seen adverts where there are comparisons or they throw in a competitor's name at the end, but nothing comes to mind where the focus is on devaluing the competition.

What's up with this?

You realize a lot of developmental work can be done on Macs? It IS done on Macs too simply because of the UNIX backbone? Furthermore, I have no problem doing photo editing on my Macbook Pro although I like my PC for the ease of use of having a solid keyboard and mouse.

If you mean real work as in playing WoW or Assassins Creed then sure....

No, its not. 7th major release. 6th major rebuild. What is so hard?

The Linux guy is too busy compiling his own custom kernels in his parent's basement to bother showing up for the commercial. Besides, I heard that he didn't bother taking a shower today, and his hair is a mess.

Not at all, I just wanted to trick him into admitting Windows 7 is just a glorified service pack for Vista. And he walked right into it :D

Do any of you own stock in Microsoft? If so, then you can bitch about apple... otherwise be like me, use Windows 7, get the hardware I want.. and be happy.

Really? Then it should be trivial for you to quote me "admitting" that. My explanation makes perfect sense of the fact that it's a major build with an increment in the subversion number, due to the excellent job MS has done with compatibility between 7 and Vista.
