I was kind of hoping they would stop selling 16GB models and make the base $500 model the 32GB version, but that didn't happen. With the new high-resolution display I'm wondering if 16GB will be enough for me.
Making the base model 32GB would cost Apple another $25/unit. I'm not sure Wall Street would like that move.

I suppose. Still charging $100 extra for an extra 16GB is a bit ridiculous. $50 would be a bit better.

16gb is fine for a lot of people. Unless you need a music/video library or are a power user 16gb will suit pretty much any need. I've never come close to the limit on my iPad or iphone 4 both are 16gb. The 399 iPad 2 is going to move a lot of units.

I have about 8GB left on my 64GB iPhone 4S and about 10GB left on my 64GB iPad 2. :( It's mostly the ridiculously large apps that are available now such as the newer Infinity Blade-like Batman game (~800MB).

welcome to business, where the objective is to make money.

The irony is great. Apple, one of the most capatistic companies on Earth, is the prefered computer of socialists and anti-capitalists.

With what I do with my iPad2, there isn't anything saying, hey go buy the iPad3. Now if the iPad3 had say a 20% battery life increase, I would seriously look into it.

I'm particular about cleaning out unused apps and music. I know some people like to hoard, so paying the premium is a must.

or $2000 for navigation

I see this a lot, and it's a ton of misinformation. While they're definitely making money off of it, it is typically more than just "navigation." Mine included an entire infotainment system, an upgrade speaker setup, rear camera, HomeLink-supporting rear view mirror, and more. A nice double DIN infotainment system (with navigation) typically runs ~$700-1000 retail.

The retina display alone will be worth it.

The iPad2 had a 25whr battery, the iPad3 has a 42.5whr battery. Thats a pretty big jump in capacity and any gains in battery life the iPad3 would have had is sucked up by the new quad core and LTE.

FWIW, the iPad3 is the longest lasting 4G Quad core device. That's pretty good, if that's what you're into anyway.

Yeah, I have a friend who just never deletes anything. He's always flying through pages trying to find an app and I'm just like 'USE THE SEARCH!!!'

But I keep my devices paired down to Apps that I use on a constant basis. Usually a handful of games. Got a 64GB iPad 2 last go-round and never crossed less than 50GB free.

i am pretty meticulous about cleaning up my unused apps also. i have a strange feeling that too many apps slows down the device (even though it probably doesnt). it just seems so cluttered with too many.

I'm not much of an Apple fan, but I am very glad they are pushing high resolution displays. It is a sad state of affairs when a 10" screen on a tablet has a higher resolution than 99.9% of desktop monitors. I want a 4K resolution monitor for a reasonable price and I want it yesterday!
