It's kinda a lot more when you think about it. $130 up front and an extra $30 a month for only 2gb. WHY does it cost apple $130 for just a cellular radio!? And fuck cell phone companies...$30 for only TWO gigabytes!? Robbery.

I haven't seen the retina in person. However, I'm not wowed by this. It's a great device, nice and fast, but none of the apps I use will take advantage of it, nor will most of the new ones coming out in the near future because to require an ipad3 means they lose too many potential buyers. Some graphics may be better but whatevs.

In a way the biggest news out today is confirmation that an entry level ipad can be bought now for $399.

BTW the name new ipad is fvcking idiotic.

cell data plans are for rich people still. eventually they won't be but today they are a total farce.

What makes you believe that the iPad resolution change will be any different from when the iPhone 4 was released? Apps will be updated very quickly to utilize the higher resolution.

I'm glad I still have my iSpot from Clear activated. $25/month unlimited. Granted it's not LTE speeds; more like HSDPA speeds. But not having to worry about caps is a blessing.

I wont be happy till apple releases the ipad 7" or tops an ipad 8". If I need something huge like a laptop, I'll buy a laptop. I had the ipad, then fooled into upgrading to the ipad2 (which still sits in the box seldom used). As far as siri, give me a break. My iphone 4s had siri and its next to useless. Maybe something to humor the kids, or make fun of on TV comedy sitcoms, but thats about it.
Come-on apple... ipad 7".

Yeah, but I guess I'm saying I don't care about better resolution of an existing app. Again, I've not seen the retina display. I think the display on the ipad2 is pretty sharp, though. Maybe if I saw retina I'd want to turn my ipad2 into a frisbee, but I can't really see that happening.

Retina isn't about workable space, it's about clearer and more defined use of the space. Seeing retina in person is the only way to do it justice, but having an iPad 1/2 next to the New iPad you see how much more vibrant it is and even things like text are a lot better. Honestly think of a 3GS next to a 4. Same workable space, but looks WAY better. It'll impress you when you see.

Since when is a much nicer screen not enough for you guys? I mean, all you're doing is just looking at a screen, so the improvement seems worth it to me.

I totally see the appeal. I'm trying to force myself to skip this generation, but it's going to be hard once you guys start getting yours in and making "OMFGWTFBBQ THIS THING LOOKS AWESOME1111" threads.

Why do that when they could just cut $50 off the price of a Fire sell another few million units?

Damn you, when I found out about those, they'd already killed the product :(

Well the processors seem (for me they always were) fast enough to handle anything thrown at them and I barely play games. So I never really cared about those upgrades. All I really wanted was a newer, nicer screen. Huzzah! Figure I can keep this one for a while, since the newer ones will just be CPU/GPU updates I don't care for.

I think Apple is adopting the Macbook Pro naming scheme. There isn't a Macbook Pro 1, 2, 3, 4. etc. The same will probably be true for iPads now.

iPad (Gen1)
iPad (Gen2)
iPad (Gen3), etc.

Well, I went all in and now feel really dirty. Got the 64gb Wifi on pre-order. Time to hide the old credit card for awhile. The allure of video editing on it is strong. :p

Im waiting to see if they increase the RAM.. I'm definitely seeing slowdowns on occasion with the iPad 2.. 512mb just doesn't cut it with iOS5. Im sure there will be some bump in RAM for Retina display, need more memory for those extra pixels. Heres hoping its 1024mb.

They probably just didnt update the CPU so they could add the new one in next year and make a new iPad, all while not having to name it iPad 3S so people think its not just a minor update.
