this must be nonsense since I've used my macbook well over 100 hours in teh past 6 months

I mean shit, 100 hours in 30 days seems more likely.

Yeah because no parts ever fail.

2 finger scroll on my dad's dell was laughable, at best.

100 hours was an exaggeration, the actual is prob less... it's my 3rd computer, i never needed it, i only use it when i feel like it and on infrequent short trips which I will carry it instead of the 8300, hasn't carried it around since i had gotten my netbook.

macs suck ass when you have other choices. it's only logical when you don't have anything to compare it with. people keeps saying they will pick mac if it's given them for free, how about when you get a PC and a strictly OSX Mac for free, which one will you use more?

Never said I was against the pc's that apple sells. I was actually gonna comment on that fact anyways, even before you cried about it.

Logic > Emotion

Edit - There are far more than 2 camps involved.

So the price premium is worth 2-finger scroll? What the hell? And like I said... anecdote man... anecdote. None of my friends probably know what a 2-finger scroll function does so I doubt they decided to plop down 50% more than a comparable computer just to get 2-finger scroll.

Just the tip of the iceberg man.

I can only speak for myself, but I email a shitload and 2 finger scroll increased my productivity by at least 25%

Also tv-out on dell was a pain in the ass, usually requiring me to fuck around with the video settings

tv out on apple was buy adapter, plug and play.

both windows and apple have their time and place

and I know alot of peeps buy apples solely for the cred...

It is actually a subtle part of Apple's marketing so at least it's working. Why else would some jackass put an apple sticker on their car other than to give off some type of 'image'.

EXACTLY! I can understand if people want to buy a Mac for a legit reason, but the idiots think they are taking part in some kind of superior lifestyle evidenced by the fact that they put those moronic stickers on their car and various other items. Apple has marketed their stuff as a lifestyle, not as a tool, and that is what annoys me so much about it. I don't care at all what people prefer but it's the holier-than-thou attitude that grinds my gears. That goes for both sides, but I'm sure I don't need to point out that 90% of my experience with that ridiculous attitude is Mac users.

Link

lol

I do think that Mac users recognize themselves in the Mac guy, but there's probably that uncomfortable recognition, that slightly uncomfortable degree of self-hatred that you've become a cliche.

Hell, Hyundai I believe had a whole line of commercials comparing their cars (and ratings) to the luxury lines (Infinity, Lexus, BMW, Mercedes) with the whole emphasis being that feature for feature, they met or exceeded the standards of the "name brands", at a significantly lower price point.

The ads emphasize that given a economic price point and a given set of requirements, Apple generally can not compete. Take the Apple tax out of the equation and it's a different story.
In terms of computers you have to realize that the $600 lap top is not as good at the $2499 MacBook Pro.

That was my point.

MS created a constraint that made it impossible for Lauren to buy a Mac. And then Lauren buys a PC and they pretend that it is as good as the MacPro when it is not even close.

Same with the Olivia ad. Tell them they can't spend more than $700 which puts the Mac out of their range.

Again, if Kia tried the same thing people would laugh at them.

While the $700 may be a stretch what about a $1200 non-apple laptop? $1500? What about when you want to upgrade the ram and have to buy the proprietary Apple branded ram? (assuming they still have that racket going that is)

Wow - I can't believe they found a laptop at Best Buy for under $700.00 [they must've ignored the high pressure warranty sales tactics used by every best buy employee]. :)

At *any* price point a PC running Windows is a better deal than Apple. You always get shortchanged on specs, or performance when you make the choice to go Apple.

I'll give you that. I hate Itunes, but I've always thought the visualizations were pretty sweet. It's too bad they have to ruin it by throwing their stupid Apple logo up every so often.

You failed at the ads too. MS didn't set a constraint, they asked these people what their budget was. That's the ENTIRE point of the ad.

We'll never know if the machine that they bought is better/worse than a mac, but we will know that it's cheaper.

yes, yes they are. thats not to confuse the fanboys with the people who actually have a reason for buying a mac besides some mundane "cool" reason.

Meh, I don't care if people buy Macs or not. I don't care if they are fanboys or not. I just like to point out blatant stupidity; such as not getting the point of such a simple commercial.

Oh please!!!

The ads are fake!! Redheaded Lauren is an actress.

In the ad with lawyer Lauren and her mom they filmed the beginning and end at the same time. (the clouds have not moved a bit despite that seemingly long shopping trip through Best Buy.)

They might not be scripted, but do you think they are winging their way through these ads? Do you think MS would have picked someone with a bigger budget and the desire to edit photos and movies right out of the box without adding software?

MS has a message they want to get across so they set up the ad to get that message across. To pretend they are 'real' people is bogus.

Why does it matter whether they're actors or not? That detail's only of technical interest. That doesn't affect the greater point of the commercial, or make it any less true.

The ads can be fake, the people can be actors, but the message is still true. The fact that you are comparing a $600 machine to a $2500 machine shows that you just don't get it.

What don't I get??

I want a new car. I should buy a Kia because it costs half as much as a BMW right? I mean the both have 4 tires, 4 door and an engine. Only 'cool' people get a BMW right?

BTW what kind of computer are you using? I assume it was the cheapest one you could buy since it is all about price.

And what is with the Zune username? Couldn't you have bought a Craig MP3 player instead and saved a lot of money?

The ads have one message in mind, Apple's cost more than PCs and that is true. But they are not giving a fair comparison when they buy the cheapest PC the can find and pretend it is as good as a much more expensive Mac.

Go to Dell or some other site and price out a laptop with the same specs as the MacBook Pro and get back to me.

BTW I own both a Mac and a PC.
