I don't know if you ever had to buy Apple branded RAM, but it hasn't been the case in 20+ years.

Oh please!!!

The ads are fake!! Redheaded Lauren is an actress.

In the ad with lawyer Lauren and her mom they filmed the beginning and end at the same time. (the clouds have not moved a bit despite that seemingly long shopping trip through Best Buy.)

They might not be scripted, but do you think they are winging their way through these ads? Do you think MS would have picked someone with a bigger budget and the desire to edit photos and movies right out of the box without adding software?

MS has a message they want to get across so they set up the ad to get that message across. To pretend they are 'real' people is bogus.

This is some pretty serious failboat.

What don't I get??

I want a new car. I should buy a Kia because it costs half as much as a BMW right? I mean the both have 4 tires, 4 door and an engine. Only 'cool' people get a BMW right?

BTW what kind of computer are you using? I assume it was the cheapest one you could buy since it is all about price.

And what is with the Zune username? Couldn't you have bought a Craig MP3 player instead and saved a lot of money?

The ads have one message in mind, Apple's cost more than PCs and that is true. But they are not giving a fair comparison when they buy the cheapest PC the can find and pretend it is as good as a much more expensive Mac.

Go to Dell or some other site and price out a laptop with the same specs as the MacBook Pro and get back to me.

BTW I own both a Mac and a PC.

Still failboating hard.

Ok, so by your reason someone who only has a budget of 300 a month for a car should still try to buy a BMW just because....

What if someone doesn't want to spend 40k on a BMW and they only need a car that gets them from a2b

cuts both ways

I don't need a 2.2mhz centrino with 4gb of ram and a 500gb 5400 rpm harddrive that can run HL2 @100fps

I fucking need a laptop with 2 finger scroll and is so easy to use my GF can use it =P

TBH I have no idea what the specs of my MB are. I've never once worried about it and it's never felt deficient. I just picked the middle of the road MB (at significant discount..) and ran with it.

But why would you buy a BMW when you could buy a Lambo?

These people were never going to spend $1500 on a laptop. I don't remember in those commercials where they ever compared the cheapo laptop to a MacBook Pro, but maybe I wasn't watching hard enough?

several girls i know has netbooks and they can install the 2finger scroll app mentioned above.

that computer costs about $350 last year and $250 now.

maybe what you need is a computer for you, a computer for your girl and about $500 in your pocket.

I finally looked up two finger scrolling. Why is that better than having the scroll at the right and bottom of my track pad?

Are you seriously comparing a netbook to a macbook now? not even fucking close

What I need is an MBP running bootcamp and a few 500gb external drives (non-ntfs, sigh) so I can consolidate my office into 2 machines.

I never had one of those on my laptops. It was either move the pointer over to the scroll up/down or arrow keys

I think the point is that if a $200 computer can do it, any computer can.

Actually, I did that last year. I bought a fairly high end Dell XPS laptop (~$1650), and I did shop around. I put the same exact specs into a macbook pro (except a slower video card - they did not offer one as good as Dell's), and it was something along the lines of $2400.

Will you people stop making car comparisons? And yes, if you can't understand that they are commercials, with actors, and that the whole point is they say "if you can find a laptop in _________ budget that does what you want we'll give you that money" and that most of the time a Mac doesn't fit within that then you are stupid, not the commercial.

Ns1 you're usually a reasonable person. I really hope that's not your reasoning why you should go for Mac over PC. You can't understand that 2 finger scrolling probably does not matter at all to a very large amount of people? Not only that, but it is becoming a lot more common on every laptop, so your argument is somewhat invalid. Half the netbooks have it (worked great on the Eee that I had for a bit), and plenty of normal laptops do. If you're going to say one doesn't you're going to have to be more specific (model, year, etc). How do we know it wasn't an option or that it was just poorly setup? If you want to make such a silly argument, then why can't I get a tablet computer from Apple at any price?

It's word games on their part that imply one thing, even though the words specifically state something else.

Great - so Microsoft makes honest commercials, and pseudo-lies about how they're made. Meanwhile, Apple makes dishonest commercials, but is honest about how they are made.

Sweet.

Seriously?

Usually you don't say things this dumb, so I'll take this to be an oddball exception. There are many very well put together PC notebooks and many others that are quite light. Also, at least form my understanding, Apple notebooks aren't the best when it comes to battery life.

To prefer a Mac is one thing; speaking nonsense is another.

i didn't say there weren't well put together PC notebooks. i said that cheaply built, cheaply specced, plastic PCs were cheaper than macs. the people were at best buy looking at cruddy plasticky notebooks, not high end sonys or dell adamos. and iirc, the adamos cost more than the macs when they launched.

not to mention pretty much every mac laptop review lately considers battery life excellent

i have a beef with mac notebooks: the screens are too low resolution. so i'll probably be getting a plasticky dell.

Yes, I know. I can only say from MY PERSONAL experience that 2 finger scroll was the second coming of christ and increased my productivity assloads

Yes

I haven't personally found one that works as well as apple's does. YMMV

Reasonable Ns1:

I hate these threads, they're fucking stupid. People can't appreciate that both operating systems/companies have pros and cons. I <3 apple for tons of reasons, but there's many things that I hate about apple too (low customization, high price, etc). The only reason I even HAVE a MB is because I got the last gen 3 days after the current gen came out, and I got it for like 400 under MSRP.

Would I EVER pay MSRP for a MacBook? FUCK NO. But 400 off a 1500 laptop makes my macbook FAR superior to anything in it's equivalent price range IMHO

I personally find Apple laptops to be far superior. That's my subjective opinion, given what I need the laptop for. There are many, many instances where a dell/hp/whatever is better - if you're gamer, need it for corporate applications, etc (assuming you don't want to run bootcamp), or if you're on a budget.

I definitely agree that <1k a NON-apple laptop cannot be beat. >1k it really depends on what you use it for. I laugh at peeps with the POS 900 white macbook because really, that shit is SOOOOOOOO underpowered it's not even funny. 1gb of ram GTFO!

I don't think they lied. They're just playing on people's preconceived notions. Advertising is somewhat deceptive more times than not. That's why it's important to examine everything with a critical eye. In the case of the MS commercials, the real point is valid regardless of the details.

I dislike Apple, but I enjoy their commercials. I don't have TV, but I run into them online every so often. They all have an element of truth, but they blow things out of proportion, or use sketchy comparisons. In any case they're humorous and memorable, and that's what really matters in the end. The fact that a bunch of people from all over the world are discussing their commercials on a forum proves they did their job well :^)

Just making sure. You were starting to resemble too many of the people who can't seem to get their brain to work properly, which you normally are one of the most vocal against.
