It was rightly dismissed and they are not proved wrong but rather the price has finally plummeted to a reasonable level (although requiring a rebate to do it). While the 7800GS is/was Nvidia's last "high end" AGP card, they bested it with the mid-range 7600GT and may supplant that with a compatible 8600 variant.

ALL games run perfectly now. COD2 and even B&W2:BOTG. the sapphire card sucked. im selling it. as u should too. but if i were u id just look into a better x1950pro rather than a 7800gs. trust me by selling that new x1950pro that ur getting back from RMA will make u back a decent $260. and then the HIS turbo ed i got costs 250 on newegg. ull only make a small loss but a big gain compared to the 7800gs. i dunno if the 256mb one just consumes less power or what but it runs flawlessly on my pc and quieter and best of all much cooler. theres also a 512mb HIS one but it costs 290 and im not rich lol. but seriously the game performance difference between a 7800gs and a x1950pro is big, at least big enough to make the difference between running all games on medium and all games maxed out.

it is *much more* than i expected
it is a powerful solution and an excellent match for my aging AGP rig
i just started to get into the nvidia CP ... amazing work and just leagues ahead of ATi's CCC ... there is so much you can do ... intuitively and easily
i haven't found *perfect settings* for my card ... it runs quite nicely at stock .. but o/c'ing really makes it shine ... with Fable ... everything *maxed* at 11x8 and with 4xAA/8xAF plus vsynch
i o/c'd from the stock OC to 450/1300 ... there is no discernable difference in fan noise between it and 'stock' ... maxed O/C brings on an annoying fan noise [like the x850xt]
and the Sapphire's extra 256MB vRAM *can* be utilized ... IF your CPU is powerful enough ... i know it edges out the GS in FEAR and Oblivion ...
--but not enough to make me wanna stick the Sapphire back into my case

let me make SURE i put this in *perspective* ...
1> the x1950p is an excellent GPU
2> it's the Sapphire RMA process that is bad
--and IS the x1950p a good deal faster than the 7800GTX?
it is NOT a good deal faster than my 7800GS OC'd ... in my rig
i wish you and your dad the best of luck with your new cards
that is under *ideal circumstances* ... a CPU powerful enough to work with the x1950pOriginally posted by: ArchAngel777

It should be a great deal faster... I found this link of another user reporting 9500+/- in 3dMark05. Go here and scroll to the bottom. A user gives his option of the 1950 512 AGP Versus 7800GS. It should have a good 40-50% performance over the 7800GS in GPU limited situations.
Edit** Here is another link

i feel more than a little *stupid* now
looking at my VisionTek 3DMark05 scores ... they were actually 7850 ... CPU o/c'd to 3.31Ghz ... stock on the 256MB VisionTek
... so my x1950p 512M would have been about 8K ... 6800GS abut 1500 points lower
in the "ballpark"
sorry
PS: as to the PS ... mine was exceeding the minimum Wattage but not meeting the recommended amperage on the 12v rail ... and it failed in a month
it didn't show any signs of artifacting or instability UNLESS i tried to o/c it [or keep my CPU o/c at 3.3] ... i actually backed down from 3.31 to 3.0Ghz which KILLED my 3DMark05 score ... now i know how i got confused]

well actually it is...even at stock speed...I've had a chance to compare both my Northwood 3.06 and Prescott 3.0 to my A64 3000+ and the P4's do perform considerably worse, overclocking my A64 to 2.87ghz actually does very little in the way of increasing benchmark scores, usually it adds only 500 points to a 3Dmark score...
I believe the A64's better benchmark performance has something to do with the on die memory controller, that alone gives any A64 the edge over a P4...

not when the P4's FSB is increased so much .. i'd set my O/C'd 2.80c@3.31Ghz right next to your stock A643000+ and it would generally beat it - except for gaming where it would 'tie' or be very close
we went over and over this in GH and CPU forum when i bought it ... years ago
i actually got 8,000 with 3DMark05 ... not as initially reported
