Finished the series and I did enjoy it. I can see why you might love the first part and be less enthusiastic about the second half but I think it's mainly because of the change in orientation, which I thought was pretty much inevitable anyway. It was a little slower as well but still plenty of action.

I was a little curious about one thing. For a new series, is it based on old manga or something. Because all of the military hardware was really dated. For example, the fighter jets looked suspiciously like F-4s. The Chinooks I think are still in service but the single rotor copters looked like old Hueys.

The source material (i.e. light novel) was serialized from 2006-2009.

In it, it is explained that only "obsolete" equipment was sent through the gate because of concerns of it falling into enemy/unknown hands.

Right that makes sense. There was also one reference to why they weren't getting the newer guns and they gave a similar explanation. Just remembered that and didn't pay much attention at the time. Thanks. :)

Fair enough. They do have loads of fun random things you can do. The forum is quite active too.

What do you mean they have exclusivity broadcasting?

none of the "legal" anime sites share their licences, if you want to see something from funimation, you have go to funimation, its the same thing with all of them. That's what i meant, they're fighting over acquisitions, so you cant just deal with any one site

Watched the first episode of Death Parade but can't decide if I like it. Should I stick with it?

Also, is there a good anime site for recommendations. IOW, you enter your favorite anime and they recommend other stuff you will probably like.

Anime Planet does something like this but it's hit or miss and you have to enter and rate all of the anime you've seen.

Gate falls flat later on.

Agreed. I liked the beginning, because I tend to like situations that put a character out of their element. It's usually a good source of humor. However, Gate went from being a bit more about comedy and exploring the fictional world to just being about ecchi. :\ I have no problem with ecchi in anime as long as there's still other reasons to watch (e.g. story, etc.), but when the anime is just about some oppai, that's usually when I check out.

I know what you mean. I'm Watching Death Note atm and it's entertaining and worth sticking with, but when you see stuff like L giving Light a foot rub while Light dries L with a towel I can't help but say to myself... Damn. This is gay as hell. o_O

RWBY

If you don't know anything about it, watch the Red trailer before you read anything else for the best experience.

I've been to that site a few times to review lists people have posted and it looks like a great site but how to the recommendations work? If say I post my top 5 fave anime, will they they volunteer similar or anime, is there some other procedure I have to navigate?

I've signed up for an account so if you can just point me in the right direction that would be very helpful.

What do you mean? Let's say enjoy Attack on Titan, then you go to http://myanimelist.net/anime/16498/Shingeki_no_Kyojin then click on 'recommendation'
W4sY8sK.png

it will show all the similarities to Attack on Titan. Obviously not the same story etc etc but you get the idea :)

Also browse here http://**********************/?board=16
really useful section if you want to find something you like :)

Feel free to ask anything ():)

OK, thanks. I was poking around and saw the recommendation option but if it just suggests anime based on one show, that's not really what I'm looking for. Anime Planet does that too and the top recommendations do tend to have similarities to the show used as the starting point, I haven't found them to be all that reliable in terms of my tastes.

Still, it's better than nothing. And maybe myanimelist, since it has such a huge membership compared to anime planet, will be more on target.

I'm almost through Death Parade. I'm sort of glad I stuck with it. They do a reasonably good job of explaining the logical basis for what's happening although the idea of forcing people into extreme situations seems a little iffy. I love the artwork though so it's a pleasure to watch. IDK, all-in-all a competent story but nothing to get too excited about.

DP is really good :)
The story is great and the animation is superb. Each episodes are more like imaginations or real, they always sends a meaningful message. The ending is satisfying too  8.5/10 for me. Madhouse afterall!

I couldn't get into death parade, though I felt the same about assassination class at first too. I'm partway thru the 2nd season of assassination class now. I guess I'll revisit death parade afterwards.

Kabenri of the iron fortress looks pretty cool, very shingeki no kyojin -esque.

What is your top 5 Animus? I can try help you find the Anime that fits in your category. :D
That's tough. I'm probably going to forget some and have incorrect recollections of others but here goes.

Witch hunter Robin
Big O - Season 1
Trinity
Black Butler
Helsing
Evangelion
Code Geass
Attack on Titan

That's best I can do off the cuff.

I see you like your action genre :)
You like blood and gore yes? :sneaky:

From your list I would recommend you have a look at these Anime. (Not in order and these Anime are my opinion and straight out from my head hehe )

- Guilty Crown (Pretty animation, cool story line and beautiful OST)
- Terra Formers (UNDERRATED, make sure to watch the uncensored version)
- Psycho-Pass (Really good!!!)
- Claymore (Good female lead and gorey)
- Black Lagoon (Female badass and 100% go for the dub version)
- Death Note (It's cool it's overrated imo but from your list you would certainly like it)
- Berserk (Perfect imo and make sure to watch the dub version)
- Steins Gate (Perfect and 100% go for the dub version)

The list goes forever but I stop here for now. Pick one and let me know how it goes :)

Just wondering do you like Comedy Anime?

I've seen psycho-pass, black lagoon, death note and steins gate. BL and DN are 2 of my favorites. Not top 10 but up there.

SG I watched out of order so didn't really see the whole thing by the time I figured this out.

I may have seen Claymore. I know I've seen parts of it but not sure if I've seen the whole thing. Probably not. But that looked really good too.

Not sure about Berserk. Sounds familiar so will check it out.

So that leaves the first two. Didn't get any hits on Terra Formers from my . . . ahem, "usual" sources. But did find a dual audio version of Guilty Crown.

Thanks for taking the time to write up that list. :)

I had a feeling that you have seen most of the Anime I listed. I assumed you are a new Anime watcher, but I was wrong hehe. Anyway go for Terraformers. Watch it on KissAnime. Terraformers is soo underrated because of the censorship and story? Now there's an uncensored version but most of the first time watchers never gave the uncensored version a chance :(
