Why the hell would you buy $9k in OTM options expiring the business day before earnings?

If you can sell for 0.10 I would put it in Google 380 Apr puts.

What often happens is that stocks go up in anticipation of earnings. Since AMTD released the estimated earnings (which are almost 50% higher than projected ones), I believe that this is going to be a hot momentum stock. I agree that it's a gamble, but the downside is small compared to the tremendous upside. I'll be sure to revisit this thread by next Friday with my results.

Looks like you're options are going to expire OTM :(

I still have LOTS of time left(3 days is a lot especially with the way that the market is going). And the catalyst that I'm waiting for is the earnings report of ET tomorrow after market close. I'll be sure to post sometime Friday afternoon. I believe that a 10% jump (which will bring it to 23) is very feasible (and bring me to a 6 digit gain on a 10K investment).

AMD people: The reason why AMD drops so hard with the slightest bit of bad news is that their P/E is 38.09. INTC hardly drops (these days) with bad news because their P/E is 13.85. People expect a lot from AMD and if they don't stay on track, they get knocked down a notch. With Intel all the bad news is already priced in so when they come out with bad news, people shrug and go on. I believe the downsixe vs. upside for INTC is much better than AMD's.

lol getting closer to the money. good luck tomorrow man.

I couldn't believe it already kissed 22 today! I wasn't expecting such a hard move until after ET reported earnings but I guess the nice NITE earnings helped me out. While most people will be looking at INTC, EBAY and AAPL earnings after the bell I'll be paying VERY close attention to ET.

AMD had a temporary gain. But since start of trading on Wednesday it has been on a free fall. Today, it looks like it stepped off another cliff.

At 30.7, it is right near the low point for all of 2006.

The stock I most closely watch plunges again. It has clearly broken the $30 barrier that it kept hitting in the last month. How long until it reaches the ~$15/share that it historically has been valued?

At $17.XX a share...INTC is looking very tasty right now. At $22.XX MS doesn't look too bad either.

Bought them both along with Dell within the last two months when they were near their 52 week low. Hopefully in a couple of years it will pay off.

All of Nasdaq is plummetting today. I think INTC has a bit more it can drop. If it reaches ~$16.00 a share, it'll be a far better buy than at the ~$17.50 it was yesterday.

Microsoft is close to its 5 year low. I'm not certain it will drop much further. So yes, it probably is a good buy now.

AMD is down a lot today; it is down almost another 4%. Down 23% in about 2 weeks.

Yeah I bought it earlier and sold it like 30 minutes later for a few cents up, just before it plummeted. My funds are on hold now for awhile so I don't get flagged for day trading.

I think I'm going to hold off on anything for a couple months, lol. INTC will be a good buy in a couple weeks though, I think.

INTC is going to booooombbb when their next earnings report comes out. AMD has had nothing but positive news and they've tumbled like 20%, just because a company is at it's 52-week low doesn't mean that it's a great bargain. INTC just recently closed at a low they haven't hit in 3 years. Be careful.

It will go back up though, in the long term. :)

I think one of the best possible investment strategies is to find a very good company that has stock at a very low price. You want to buy good companies. You want to buy low. The combination of the two is the ideal buying situation.

Of course, don't take my advice incorrectly. Don't buy the Titanic as it is sinking. You first want to be certain it is a good company.

Intel is making money hand-over-fist. They are raking in the dough. Intel isn't going to go bankrupt anytime soon. Thus, Intel is not like the Titanic. I'd personally wait for it to drop a tad bit more, but then I'd be happy to buy it.

AMD's price to earnings ratio is still roughly double that of Intel. AMD is just way, way overpriced. They've got almost nowhere to go but down. That doesn't mean AMD is a bad company or that they have bad products. It just means that their stock price is too high at the moment.

My outlook is very long term. I think INTC will rebound later down the road. I also bit on MSFT @ 22.10. Again long term outlook.

AMTD is getting the crap beat out of it as well. I bought at $15.36. It's dropped even more since I bought, but it too will rebound down the road.

True, but I'm buying INTC and MSFT for the long term. Both are reputable companies that I don't forsee going under in the near future. AMD, however, is far too risky for me.

I bought AMD Stock in OCT 01 and finally sold the rest of it a month ago. Sold the remaining 100 shares @~35 a piece so I am happy. That stock did more crazy things than I can even describe. Lol, it was a bitter day when the stock hit 6 something and stayed there for a while.

My Advice: What goes up really fast, can go back down really fast !

Nothing wrong with buying for the long term, but why buy a stock for the long term that has such little volatility. Cheap to MS is a few dollars. To make money on that you have to buy a lot, while that would tie up a lot of money for little return.

Imo, if someone is going to pick a stock for the long term, it makes more sense to pick a volatile one that might be down quite a bit, so it has a larger upside when it comes into line with long term expectations.

Imo AMD is cheap in the $26 range altho maybe not bottomed out yet. If it gets in the $22-$24 range in the near future, only insanity should keep an investor away from it. (however I don't invest so I won't be buying it regardless. ;))

Well it is now in the $24 range.

Down, down, down, and yep, down again.

Any takers? PE ratio is finally below 30. Still nearly twice as high price as it should be.

So many better stocks out there. Only reason to buy would be the coolness factor...

Which is a very bad reason to buy. INTC is *much* more profitable, throws off a ton more cash, and utilizes it's assets and inventory better. There is no reason to buy AMD at 2x the P/E as INTC. It's a stupid investment.

Both INTC and AMD got favorable upgrades this morning. Both are posting a bit of a rally.

AMD slashes sales forcasts.

Stock is down >2% to fresh 2006 lows. It was below $23 earlier, but it is making a little bit of a recovery from there. AMD stock is almost approaching reasonable pricing.
