Fact is that religions are ideologies, and ideologies are rigid structures which can therefore not adapt or change. They exist for some time, then disappear.

Here's a hint, Elledan, do a search on my past posts and see where people have disagreed with me on religion... the Red Dawns, BoberFetts, etc - even Netopia toa degree. See if I've ever disrespected them, or belittled them. Nothing but respect for them, different opinions and all.

Here is the difference:

They come into a debate with an attitude of "I disagree with you but respect you and your opinions".

But just to play along, let me outline something for you. I am VERY happily married to the most amazing and beautiful woman who loves me completely and I her. I have a wonderful, beautiful daughter who is the joy of my life. I have an unborn son on the way - who I already love more than I can say.
I have great parents... a dad who is a great and loving guy, and a mom who is strong and smart, funny and warm. They are still happily married after years and years and I have 7 great siblings who I am close to. BTW, my dad isn't religious which makes him a strange zealot indeed.
I have a great job in programming and lots of friends - of all my good friends, only one is Catholic and 2 others are Christian. The rest are agnostic/atheists. They have no problems with me, and I with them.

Again, strange "zealots" that don't have a religion.

I am surrounded by loved ones, a family, a wife, children, parents, grandparents, friends, etc. I am very lucky I know. the funny thing is they all seem to tolerate me...

You know, even here on one internet bulletin board, no one other than you seems to really have a problem with me. At least, I don't fight with anyone regularily (although your new friend tmv22 seems to agree with you... good company indeed).

Let me just say I don't live in my parents basement all alone - no loved ones in my life, few if any real friends, etc as you seem to hope.

In ancient times, you would backhand a slave. To strike your slave with the palm was considered self degrading. "Offering the other cheek" refers to the fact that if your aggressor chooses to strike you a second time, he will have to use his palm and thus degrade himself in the process.
However, it is clear by your post that you have already sufficiently degraded yourself, hence, no one needs to offer the other cheek.

Let's get technical then. For starter: "enlightened" is a term commonly found in Buddhism. A good synonym is "self-taught." One is enlightened by onself. If you are still in the 80's optimus, try looking that word up in the D I C T I O N A R Y. Optimus=Dan Quayle when you get technical and try to fix people... you often look dumb. you dont want that

To get back to the main point, I find a black Jesus pure blasphemy! It's degrading. I can understand reasons why there're many religions... but there never should be different flavors within a religion. I'll have to think more, to back up my reasoning.

As for colors. I was talking about racial colors. Theres only five colors known universally for race. Black, anyone from Africa, white, anyone but the Russians , yellow, for Asians, brown for Hispanics, and blue, for Martians . Let's not add too many colors to the rainbow like olive, tanned, albino, whatever.

What does "enlightened" have to do with anything mentioned in this thread? And, just as an FYI, the word "enlightened" is not owned by Buddhism. It has a secular meaning--knowledgeable. You can enlighten others, as I'm doing for you right now! HA!

Degrading to whom? He was NOT white. If you are incapable of recognizing any but 5 skin colors, than YES. Jesus, having been born and raised in an area that is essentially in Africa, he was BLACK. Of course, he wasn't really from Africa. The region in which this whole thing took place is a blurry area that isn't really Africa or Asia. So he wouldn't really have been black or yellow.
Something in between. Wow. Try and wrap your mind around the concept that there ARE different shades of people. There are people from Northern Italy who look more like Swiss than Italians. There are white Africans and Black Europeans. If only the world were as simple as you wish it was.
As for "Flavors in religions" if you're worried about a lack of universality, Christianity is probably not the place for you. How many sects and denominations do we have? Yeeeeah...
