<< Jesus was black, or so I´v read. The area there in the middle east was habitated by black people about 2000 years ago. Also the egyptans were black also.

But who knows, happened over 2000 years ago.
>>

That's a crock of sh|t, which has been perpetuated by African American professors since the 1970's. It's a pity impressionable little vikings up in Iceland have taken to believing it now as well.

The people in the Middle East (and also Egypt, and the rest of Northern Africa), have no doubt had some intermarraige with black Africans. However, they are still 90% (or likely more) caucasian.

IMO, anyone who believes that he could speak as an infant, make birds from clay, heal lepers and raise the dead should have the right to be delusional enough to see Jesus as whatever skin colour he likes best.

The amused one brings up a very good point. The Bible was writen by several different authors... all which had their own interpretations of previous scriptures and life experiences. The bible doesn't equal Jesus. the first half of it wasn't even writen by Christains!! The only part that truly pertains to Jesus IMO, are the Gospels. Everything else in the bible is interpreted from the Jewish scripture or are peoples own interpretations of what it means to be Christain (mainly Paul).

There was a similar discussion on ATOT a few months ago. My boss keeps a picture of a black Jesus by her desk, and I am not disturbed or offended at all. She is probably one of the nicest people I've met at my university. I think that since there's ambiguity about what color Jesus really was, there's no reason to be offended when a depiction of Jesus is someone other than white, brown hair, a goatee and a six pack. Of course you will probably never see a Jesus of color in an Uncle Arthur bedtime story book.

<< were blacks used as slaves in egypt? someone had to build all those freaking pyramids. >>

No, the Jews were supposedly used as slaves. Don't you remember the story of Moses?

Archeological digs around the pyramids also suggest that for the most part, the builders of the pyramids were paid workers, and not slaves.

There were Nubians in Egyptian society, and their numbers grew as time went on. There is nothing to suggest there was any caste system built on skin color or race.

<< In different cultures, Jesus is portrayed differently. In the west, Jesus is white, in China he's chinese (and so on). In reality Jesus would have had darker skin color (think of people in Middle-East). Oh, and he would have had short hair, not the long hippie-look you see everywhere (bible forbids men from growing long hair). >>

I can tell you now not too many Chinese people claim Jesus was Chinese. Anyone who doesn't think Jesus was of what we now consider Israelli origin (as his parents were Jewish) is missing the big picture, and only interested in perpetuating racial issues and attitudes, namely blacks if thats the case. I find it quite annoying.

you asking for something that isn't there. No one has any FACTS on jesus. And there will never be any concrete evidence on the color of his skin. He is 2000 years old!!! We don't know anything about anybody that is that old. I also think its immature for you to think that Christains believe in Christ because they think he's white.
I'm a Christain and I don't worship Jesus, I worship GOD, who has no race attached to him. I also believe in the teachings of Christ (the Gospels, which speaks of human equality no matter what background, rich or poor) and that he was the son of GOD. The color of Jesus's skin factors in absolutely no where. So quit lookin for answers that will never be found and that don't matter anyway!

Wow, we'd gone so long without a good ole' fashoined Christian bashing roundup I was beginning to relax a little!

<< what r they tryin to do? be white? be accepted? they'll never be accepted as one of us. >>

Are you all that eager to join anyone bashing Christians that all of you will side with this racist garbage?

Some lovely tidbits:

<< This type of thing is the result of christian missionaries brainwashing people of other cultures to follow christianity. >>

<< Religion sucks. >>

<< Concidering the whole thing is a grand fantasy and story book shuck and jive for the weak minded who need a psychological crutch to make it thru the day >>

Sigh....

BTW, Nice to see Elledan back to "enlighten" us. Geez Elledan, for something you consider fantasy you sure spend a lot of time harping on it. You post in more religion threads than Athanasius and I combined. You know, I don't believe in (follow, whatever) Buddism but I can't remember the last time I cared enough to argue about it. Or is it some kind of "mission" to save us from ourselves? Or since we are inherently beneath you, save others from our dangerous influence?

Geez, by the time I even get my post done there is yet more crap thrown at us.

<< IMO, anyone who believes that he could speak as an infant, make birds from clay, heal lepers and raise the dead should have the right to be delusional enough to see Jesus as whatever skin colour he likes best. >>

Wow, Sully says I'm delusional - thanks Sully!

<< 1. if i worship someone, i would like to know the facts. seems like you believers out there dont even know what or who you r worshipping n brainwashed or something. accepting everything. never question anything. >>

Thanks, I love being called brainwashed. Its really a nice thing to be called just because I have a religion.

I question everything and still arrived at my faith. I will continue to question everything until I die. Questioning does not rule out belief.

BTW, as for your "amazing" strawman argument about black Jesus, I personally A) Don't care about his skin color, and B) if I had to answer on Jeopardy would venture that he was olive skinned.

<< 2. for your own safety. i would not declare jesus was a black man to the Pope. dude will crucify u on the spot or something. >>

Pathetic. The pope doesn't issue any doctrine on the "skin color of Jesus" but if he were on Jeopardy he'd prolly say Olive Skinned too. Not Caucasian.
Popes don't crucify and never did - the Romans did. History - its an accounting of past events usually recorded by observers for future generations. you can read it in things called "books" at a big building called a "library".

<< 3. americans arent ready for a black jesus either. u tell them they're worshippin a black man.... hell just broke loose. Michael Jordan doesnt count. i worship him!... but not like that >>

"Americans" is an awfully broad term, don't you think? All Americans? Some Americans? Which Americans? Southern ones? All the Christian ones? That would be a funny thing as I attended one of the largest Christian universities in America and no one I encountered had a problem with a black Jesus whenever it came up.

But then again, no one really dwelt on it. Some of us don't care about skin color as much as you seem to.

Again - what the hell is your point in all this?

It could have helped the world if Jesus were a couple of shades on the darker side. But then again if he were I'm not sure the Ice Hordes would have ever bothered to glorify him. They needed to first identify with a man of their own kind. A man who at least they could bear to look at and not wince. A black Man, An Asian man, even a Woman would have been too much for Roman Imperialists and Proto-Byzantine Overlords to stomach. They regarded peoples of different races and creeds as 'Barbarians', not as fellow humans who shared their spirit and flesh. The initiated and probably codified the earliest form of institutionalized hatred of other people that led to our long descent into cultural madness. We were taught early in our history to think of ourselves as superior to all other people who did not share in every detail our skin color, ideas, and behavior. Our hatred for the 'other' was planted early, the deaths of innocents began literally hundreds and thousands of years ago. LOOK where we are today. We continue our destruction. We make heroes into traitors and even seek to try our Heroes as traitors just so we can witness the spectacle of a public execution; to quench our national bloodlust ! MADNESS ! John Walker, Our Man in Afghanistan, deserves sainthood; He deserves our respect.

Hey, no problem. :) Even the most intelligent men and women, paragons of reason in most things, tend to harbor at least a few irrational attitudes - religious fanaticism, xenophobia, claustrophobia - whatever. I just choose not to believe that once upon a time there was a great flood in which only believers and two of each animal species was spared, that another man could be born immaculately and at the end of time, return to humans alone...

Well, if you're right and I'm wrong, keep me in mind when you make picks for the All-Star hockey game in Heaven, I'll be working on my tan a little further down. I'm a pretty mean offensive defenceman. :)

Oh, and I don't necessarily agree or disagree with anything tmv22 said. His grammar makes it really hard to understand what he wrote, and what I could decipher is pretty stupid. Native Americans adopting their enemies' religion (Christianity)? How long are they declared enemies? You get exposed to an idea and you accept it or reject it based on your own common sense, ideally. Gladiator was a good movie? Please don't tell me you're basing your idea of Roman punishment on what a Hollywood movie depicted it to be. I'm not going to waste time telling you you don't make an ounce of sense because someone's bound to come along and do it for me.

Rewrite history?? WTF are you talking about? History barely accounts for the mere existence of Jesus, much less his skin tone. Why would it sicken you if Jesus was black? Why do you care what ethnicity he was?

I'm sorry but that's just really bizarre.
