well on the same token, you could ask why more than a handful of religions even exist, if they're all supposed to be true.

In different cultures, Jesus is portrayed differently. In the west, Jesus is white, in China he's chinese (and so on). In reality Jesus would have had darker skin color (think of people in Middle-East). Oh, and he would have had short hair, not the long hippie-look you see everywhere (bible forbids men from growing long hair).

- If Jesus ever existed, he would have looked like someone from the Middle East region, thus not white, black etc., but with black hair and a tanned skin.

- There's no evidence that Jesus ever existed.

- Religions are ideologies. Ideologies do not symbolize 'truth'.

its pretty messed up when i see chinese being christians too!
thats like being a traitor to their own country and bring shame upon their ancestors. the chinese were doing great till they let outside influence in.
maybe thats not a good example... take the native americans. now u see them being christians or whatever. they're actually following their enemies' religion! what r they tryin to do? be white? be accepted? they'll never be accepted as one of us.

<< they'll never be accepted as one of us. >>

Some would call this a racist remark.

I firmly believe that the differences between all Humans are negliable and that most differences are caused by different cultures, which are usually based on various religions and other ideologies.

There's only one Human race.

This type of thing is the result of christian missionaries brainwashing people of other cultures to follow christianity. It's really disgusting when you think about it. They convince a people that the way they have been living for thousands of years is wrong and that they must embrace Jesus so they can be saved. I'm sure they have used and still use alot of dirty tactics to convert people.

it is very possible tat jesus was black. all african native religons tell of a child being born by a viirgin, and is a possibility that this is where the story comes from.

what is for sure is that in no way could he have been white. most likely jewish

The Egyptians were not black, at least, not until the later dynasties when nubians were emigrating north and by then, they were a mixed society, but never totally "black." But I understand your thinking this, it's a common misconception.

As for Jesus, who knows. All one can say is, if he existed, he more than likely was olive skinned.

Totally off topic.
If both your parents are Egyptian and born in Egypt, and you are born in the USA, are you African American even if you look white?

Yep, egyptians weren't black. Of course as time passed more african blood got mixed up with egyptian, but they never were really black. I think the whole thing with "black egyptians" was born in order to appear more politically correct or something.

i'm not sure about this but from all the pictures i've seen of god, he was white so that would mean that jesus, being the son of god, would be white also. and mary was white too so i just don't see how he could be anything else.

That's true. I'm not a christian, but I believe that historical person called Jesus lived somewhere around modern-day Israel about 2000 years ago. Historians have found ancient Roman documents mentioning crusifiction of a criminal (to Romans he was a criminal) called Jesus.

who cares what Jesus looked liked.... no one knows what anybody looked liked 2000 years ago. It doesn't freakin matter. Early Christians didn't even have a base ethnic group! they consisted of Hebrews, Romans, Egyptians.... a true mixed bag of the middle east.

One of the main points of Jesus was that anybody could be a Christain... rich, poor, jewish, black... whatever... he wanted to break down ethnic barriers... unfortunately over time.. some christians lost this message of race equality... but if you read the gospels, the message it there.

In response to the title of this thread and not your criticism of Christianity: no, a picture of a black Jesus does not bother me.

If you want to be completely technical about what Jesus would have looked like, chances are about 100% that he was a man of some color, probably of Arab descent. I'd heard somewhere that some scientist had extrapolated that Jesus was Ethiopian even.

In any event, it's man's nature to picture their deities in their own image. So why can't an Asian picture an Asian Jesus? Didn't God say that He created man in his own image? Unless God is rainbow-striped, I think God looks like whatever it is you think He looks like.

Jesus was Jewish. So I'd imagine he would look like what Jewish people look like today. Possibly darker skin due to tanning effects of the sun.

Jewish people today are not a race, they are a group of people who share the same religion and the same culture.
