Independant shop and I bought the shocks/struts myself from Bavauto.com. I think the parts were around $450 delivered and the labor was like $800.

My wife's old E30 needed a new cylinder head (remanufactured actually) and that cost us $2500.

We were pretty sure the transmission was going on the E36 and that was an easy $3000 to replace, $4500 if you go to the dealership.

Yes, they do nickel and dime you to death.

The M3 IS a 6-speed Manual! Thats its stock form. If you want the SMG II (SMG I was first gen), then you have to pay an extra $2,200 (thats what it was when I bought mine).

And the 540i? LOL A 540i says "I cheaped out and regret not getting a M5 or RS6!"

No prob. But if you were to get one, definately get the 6-speed manual! The SMG II is really lame IMHO, and many people I know who have it dislike it. I mean whats the point of owning that powerful a car if your going to get a "glorified" automatic? Its worth the time to learn manual...its much more gratifying!

No prob. But if you were to get one, definately get the 6-speed manual! The SMG II is really lame IMHO, and many people I know who have it dislike it. My Lightning is far more powerful than an M3, and it seems to get along fine with an automatic. I do understand what you mean about having control of a sports car, but it's just not worth it to me.

I live in Dallas. Like pretty much every major city I've ever been to, there are cars on the roads and highways most times of the day. The thing is, say with the SMG... The SMG performs better than the 6MT ever could, with uber quick shifts. People just buy the 6MT for the control. But you can shift the SMG! I guess I just don't get it.
