Exaclty you just prooved what I was trying to point out...
Morals change every day.. how the hell can a book and a set of ideas that are so old be in a persons best intrest in these modern times.
the ideas of living set by these so called religions are nothing but ancient relics of a long forgotten society and way of life..
I'm sorry but I'm not going to not drink have sex or eat meat on certain days because some brainwashed idiot years ago wrote it in a book...
Live your life and enjoy what it offers.
you are mearly robbing yourself of pleasure and experinces that after your dead and buried wont be replaced by some mystical afterlife that frail human minds must rely on to give weaker minds peace of mind and purpose.
Wait... this sounds familiar. I think I have heard this argument before. Live by what modern society says is right. Live your life and enjoy what it offers.
oh, now i remember. It was in Mein Kampf. It can be dangerous to say that morals change every day. What ends up happening is that the majority decides what is "morally" right.
And what do you think the holy books are? the same propganda packaged as some divine idiots word to brainwash the masses under penatly of a bad afterlife to behave?
except that this book is centuries old and has never been modified so its old world ways have never been updated and the mindless scared sheep of the world keep following the rules under fear of not having 40 naked virgins or a cloud kingdom when they finally fvck up and die..
Once again, why do you say that the moral law set forth in the bible is "Old world" and no longer relivent to society today?
So you think you should still only have sex to have children? the bible says that.. it says masturbation is evil yet modern medicine say masturbation and sex are mandatory for a healthy life..
I have seen absoloutely nothing in the bible whatsoever that says sex is only for making babies, just that it should be limited to marriage, so how does your theory make the bible irrelevant?
what about unpure thoughts? hell as a male Id bet to say 1/3 the thoughts per day are unpure..
Ok, how much of this comes from the fact that guys are inherently visual (which is true), vs how much comes from the fact that our culture has turned women into sex objects? Oh, and this still doesn't address how the bible is irrelevant.
what about all these violent movies and other works of modern expresssion
we all know the church and the bible are very much agaisnt them...
Yes, this is an example of how more liberal ideas about specific things are conflicting with christian ideas, but this doesn't explain why the bible is irrelevent.
what about these silly rituals like lent and passover where you are restricted to what you can eat.. Are you fvcking kidding me?
who the hell needs to alter thier diets for some silly book becasue it says so...
*MORAL* law, not cerimonial law. Jesus abolished the old cerimonial law when he died and was ressurected, but not the moral law.
what about drugs and alcohol... todays lifestyle embraces all of them...
and that can include legal and illegal drugs.. the bible and the church frown heavily on them..
I don't know about legal drugs, i've never found anything the the bible that says those are bad. As for the illegal drugs thing, yes, this is another example of how modern culture disagrees with christian attitudes, but once again, how doe the fact that this difference exists make the bible irrelevent? As for alcohol, Jesus turned water into wine, which is alcoholic, the bible doesn't say alcohol is bad, just that being drunk is bad.
what about the silly idea that we are supposed to remain with 1 person our entire lives... nice thought but doesnt work in reality...
Doesn't work for you, but i know other people that this has worked for, so how do you know this doesn't work in reality?
times have changed... sure there are some good things in there like thu shalt not kill.. but what about that asshat that breaks into your home and tries to inflict harm on you and your family.. it should read.. thou shalt not kill except for.. criminals.. in times of war.. etc etc..
Exodus 20:13: You Shal not murder
Possibly an argument of symantics, but murder is not exactly the same as killing. I don't claim to know how exactly God would define murder, but I do know that there are examples in the bible where God helped people kill other people (David and Goliath), so it would seem that it's possible to kill somebody without murdering them.
thou shalt not steal.. heh.. big business in this and many other countries is nothing but lieing cheating and stealing to get ahead...
nice in practice but doesnt hold up...
And yet another example of something that is accepted, but doesn't say why this makes the bible irrelevant.
you know there are so many so called holy people that are being tried and convicted of these types of offenses that who the hell can hold a straight face anymore at the mear mention of american religious values..
this country and many others are flat out religious hypocrites... they say 1 thing and do another all under the flag of religion until they get caught.
Yes, i will agree with you that christians are not perfect (I know i'm not perfect), and some that claim to be christians royally screw up or are hypocrites, however I can't see how the fact that people choose to go their own way and not even try to follow God's laws while claiming to do so makes the bible irrelevant.
If a cop goes out and breaks every law while claiming to be the enforcer of the law does that make the laws he breaks irrelevant? No, it just means that the cop is messed up.
