No. It was in one of the articles on this. Apparently, one of the assailants had assaulted a 5x year old black man previously and there was no evidence this was racially motivated.

Per a video showing the police press conference, the two suspects attacked and sucker punched the son. When the father came upon his son laying on the ground and asked him what happened, the son related that he didn't know why he was attacked by the two suspects. The father went over to find out what happened and he was attacked and sucker punched.

From what we know so far, saying the father went over to confront the two suspects or escalate the situation is perhaps stretching the truth. Confronting someone / a confrontation has a connotation of hostility and violence. The official accounts we've heard so far suggest that the father was just trying to find out what happened.

I suspect it wasn't a hate crime but will be charged as such (if the prosecutors have any sense). Threatened with life without parole or the death penalty, they'll plea down to a lesser charge with the possibility of parole. Then again, the political strength of the Asian community hasn't been historically very strong and it's just as likely these guys will skate with a wrist slap.
 
Another article I read (again like three days ago now) stated both father and son went looking for the perpetrators and found them a few blocks away. The son was present when the father was assaulted.
 
These guys are nothing but pussies! They sucker punch people and think their tough. Nice! People like this are nothing but a burden on society and will never amount to be anything. Should euthanize them now and save the tax payers millions in court and prison fees.

It changes the nature of what happened. They weren't "victims" at that point. They were participants, who happened to lose the confrontation. They decided to go after the perpetrators, perhaps thinking they would bust some martial arts moves on them or something because they're Asian and watch too many movies.

its still "assault" in the eyes of the law as far as i know (not a lawyer, but have been arrested for a similar incident). regardless of whether the fall was intentional, the direct result of the old mans health or the weather, the kids were the catalyst in that, since there was an altercation. given the circumstances, that is probably the whole debate (over whether to charge or not), whether the kids maliciously tossed the old guy to the curb of it it was happenstance and happened during the same time period.

Yeah and paying BILLIONS to rehabilitate people like this really works. Looks like you’re volunteering to pick up the tab on it then because I am tired of paying for thugs like this. A person cannot even walk down a side walk and be safe.

I didn't say it was the soultion, my comment was outta anger, a person died because of these thugs. Wheres your brilliant ideas? You'd probably pat these thugs on the back. In fact why don't you invite them to stay with you and get them off the street?

Yes I understand that killing a whole segment of the world's population seemed like a justifiable reaction to this tragedy. But it's still a dumb thing to say out loud in front of other people.

So next time something like this happens, even though you may think it, don't suggest killing tons and tons of people who haven't done anything wrong.

People who haven't done anything wrong? Gesh, don't criminals go to jail for that reason alone? Especially murderers? Next time you try post something intelligent, slap your self and call it a day.

Well not all people who randomly sucker punch somebody intend to murder them. You sure there aren't other parts of your theory you want to rethink too?
