 Kind of you not to dismiss him as the malignant troll he truly is.

Oh no! How am I ever going to sleep at night having been called a troll by someone like you?

OH THE HUMANITY!!!! (picture of Hindenburg burning in the background for effect)

A "legitimate place in the profanity arsenal"

It must be cool to be the arbiter of what profanity is allowed to conservatives and what is allowed for liberals. That way it's easy to control language and hence effectiveness in any and all disputes. No bad language is allowed against my team, but we get to call your team anything we want.

? Dont try and act witty you just look dumb.

WHOAH! At least use mouthwash. Your potty mouth smells like...well, a potty. I recommend Listerine, it has been proven to kill the germs that cause bad breath.

Is there a legitimate profanity arsenal at all?

Only for those of us who enjoy expressing ourselves through language and are not burdened with stupidly puritanical views, I guess. I doubt you'd find many truly interesting figures in the history of civilization who have not used profanity in some form or fashion. The fact that we are spending so much time and energy discussing the word "wise and beautiful woman" just reinforces what a powerful word it is, and sometimes circumstances call for the careful deployment of WMDs (Words of Mass Destruction).

Huh? When did I say anything wasn't allowed as against my "team"? I wasn't the one calling for a punishment because someone used the word "wise and beautiful woman" - I was the one objecting to just that sentiment. I agree it's stupid for one person to purport to be the arbiter for such matters.

Ok, i can understand that. Are some words off limits?
My own opinion is that if some words are off limits (violent, racist, sexist, crude, mean etc. etc.) then those limits should always be adhered to, otherwise in a forum like this all limits are off. This forum still applies censorship to some words, just not others.

Personally, if I were mod, which I am not, I would draw the line at racist comments, and would also take strong exception to personal attacks on other members.

I am a feminist for the most part, but don't really consider the C word an attack on women or even a female-specific word (regardless of the fact that it actually refers to a lady bit) - to me it's a stronger version of "asshole." I would be offended by someone saying, for example, that women are too stupid to run a company or serve in elected office - to me that's sexist. The C word, though, is not on its face sexist - it's just a particularly nasty, critical thing to call a person. The British obviously throw it around more than we do, but their usage reinforces that it isn't really a word that applies only to women (on a related aside, my British law-school girlfriend often called people she didn't like "twats").

One thing I don't get is why so many gay men like her, since she is so adamantly anti-gay marriage. Even if a gay man has no intention of ever marrying, I would think being denied the right to do so would irk him. Maybe it's just an excuse to avoid commitment? Of course, she IS pretty campy, kind of a bomb-throwing Betty Page.

Maybe because she looks like a guy and they are attracted to her. That big adam's apple and deep voice may be a turn on for them. LOL, I just google imaged adams apple and she shows up at the top.

I see, so you I feel there are legitimate times to look like someone without any true intelligence or a proper upbringing.

Thanks for the clarification.

So wait....profanity is fine as long as it is not racist...

Do you realize just how much you minimized your own position?

LOL Google is VERY liberal.

You may be right. I personally don't find her to be even slightly mannish in appearance, but perhaps gay men do. Or perhaps it's those gay men who love anything campy, outrageous and over the top. Who knows?

A bunch of OWS people getting massacred is exactly what the movement needs, but I have a feeling if it did happen, the movement couldn't organize a coordinated response to take advantage of it.

OWS just proves no one pays attention to American history in school.

If you believe people who use profanity lack "true intelligence," please allow me to introduce you to a certain William Shakespeare (or, modernly, Ricky Gervais or, to return to politics and people you presumably respect, either Bush, Dick Cheney, Nixon, or pretty well any other contemporary political figure on either side of the aisle).

There is a huge difference between profanity and racism. If you seriously can't see that (which I sincerely doubt), I pity you because you lack a fully-formed adult brain.

I actually agree with him. (But then, I'm a potty mouth too - although not so much in person.) On the other hand, racist comments tend to be hurtful to everyone sharing that race. Also, race is not based on behavior. And while I agree at heart with Chris Rock about the difference between black people and, um, N-words, I have no wish to offend those black people who don't feel the same. The same with calling things "gay" because you don't like them, or calling a man "fa**ot" because he's overly concerned with his appearance. (Although to be honest I laughed my ass off when she did it.) I do know someone gay who very much objects to people casually calling things gay, meaning that they are stupid or bad or of little value, so I just don't use it that way. When I insult someone, I want it to be intentional. Otherwise where's the fun?

General profanity is different. For one thing, you don't find a lot of women saying "Hey! Don't call her that, people think I'm a wise and beautiful woman too!" For another, it's so ingrained in our society that most of us aren't offended by it. I congratulate those of you who have kept your lives more pure, but I'm not one of you.

It's context too. I'd object to someone calling Laura Ingraham the C word (not that I'm a big fan of hers), but Coulter invites it. Hell, she probably embraces it. Just as I accept that black people can call each other the N word but I can't, I accept that although it's not a word to be tossed around lightly or used simply because you vehemently disagree with someone, it has its places.

You change what I said, then debated the change. I think you need some of that healing if you are more upset by me informing you about it than you are that you actually did it.

And yes, the use of profanity makes people look like they are without any true intelligence.

As for your statement about racist comments not be profanity, that is not correct. Racist comments are a subset of the profanity set. You simply say it is not the same so you can continue to use one obscene set of words while claiming another obscene set of words is bad.

More interesting? We haven't even decided if she's a self-hating transvestite or criminally insane inciter.

Hmmm.....that is true. There is also the chance she is a bad comedian...something like the female version of Colbert.
