I have had a low fever since Friday night/Saturday 99.1-100.4

I also have a sore throat. I went to an urgent care center and he gave me amoxicillin 875mg and 2 pills a day.

I have taken 2 days worth and I have absolutely no improvement, for the people who have taken Amoxicillin how long until you got better?

When I got strep throat as a kid it was at least 3-4 days. Haven't had a need for it since.

If whatever is ailing you is viral, amoxicillin will have no effect. what did they diagnose you with?

I'll bet tomorrow you start to feel a lot better. Not uncommon for it to take 2-3 days to build up an effective level in your system.

As a general rule, finish the regiment and don't stop taking them even if you're feeling better. Antibiotics doesn't kill the bacteria magically in a split second. Also, try avoid sunlight for the meantime (wear long sleeved clothing), avoid milk products 2 hours before or after taking the medication and if you're experiencing itching (call your doctor immediately) or having uncontrollable diarrhea (call you doctor as well). Other than that..give it time

IF you're still having symptoms of sore throat when you finish your antibiotics...then you'll need address to your primary caregiver and have the specimen cultured for a more effective treatment.

Otherwise, get better

No itching or diarrhea, Just a low fever which makes me feel like poo and sore throat. No Stomach pain, still eating fine, and still breathing perfectly. I also go from sweating to being cold within minutes. I dont mind the cold but damn its 73 in my room and I am sweating balls.

I wake up with no fever then an hour later it starts at 99.1 then maxes out at 99.7ish and hangs. I went to my gen doctor today and it said I had 101.4 when I was there I feel that was a bit high reading but anyhow they took some blood so waiting on Friday for the results.

hmm I never heard of the Dairy thing with Amoxicillin, well good to know I wont eat too much dairy then when taking it. I would also love to wear long sleeve shirt but I get hot and its going ot be 90 out ha, I wont be out in the sun long, just to get to class.

Thanks for the help guys

Two days is not enough. Take the prescribed dose for the prescribed duration. Essentially, antibiotics help the body kill bacteria. It typically takes 3-5 days for your body to actually rev up an immune response, which will be aided by the antibiotics. Typically. It can take longer. Amoxicillin isn't an insta-cure. It takes time.

I had some blood taken on wed, they said later today 2pmish I should know. Hopefully it says something not too bad and it can be taken care of with some other treatment.

Edit: I am taking my Antibiotic still, 2 more days worth

AM update: sore throat is bad, halls helps it a bit, but I cringe every time I swallow :(, yea no pun intended.

I had pneumonia briefly this year and was prescribed Amoxicillin. It relieved my chest pain literally overnight. I was back near 100% in 3 days.

^ thats great for you. Unfortunately Its been almost 8 days since I got sick, and the Antibiotic still has no effect. One day worth left.

My throat is bad now and while its not getting better its not getting worse, I just chain use halls and take some Advil and the pain becomes manageable. I am taking Advil every 4 hours 400, to 600 mg per dose today alone I already took 5 dosages today, I really dont like taking so much advil its been like this for the past week. But its the only thing that gives me some relief.

I am guessing this is Viral rather then bacterial. Blood work was not in on friday, It should be in by Monday.

I just want to get over this already bah.

You shouldn't need so much NSAID to be keeping pain in check, they should be effective for 3-4 hours per dose, and you should really only take them once every 4-6 hours max. If you don't get the whole nausea/headaches/vomiting thing with opioids you could get the doctor to give you some codeine.

Well "should be" is the key word, I took some at 11 and my headache and throat are absolutely killing me now and I know I cant take any until 3. I starting to get nausea from menthol and chain sucking halls is really getting me annoyed.

I have to do work and study for tests, I cant just lay down now and let time go by :(

Water helps with the sore throat, or things like honey/syrups. How bad are the headache and throat?

I would tentatively guess that whatever it is, it's either viral, or resistant/immune to amoxicillin/clavulanate. If it hasn't gotten better tomorrow I'd go see your doctor again.

Water or any luiqid for that matter actually makes the pain flair up and been forcing my self to drink since I am not hydrating my self soo well.

The headache is like a 4 on 1-10 scale on Advil. its manageable but bother some. The sore throat pain wise is like a 5/6, and if I chain halls it gets better to a 3ish were I can just take the pain and swallow. Right now it hurts so much I cringe. Even on Advil.

Yea I should get the blood work in tomorrow which hopefully will tell me what I have. I went to the doctor again on Friday and they did pretty much nothing so I just need to wait for the results.

Get sore throat spray. It works wonders and is much easier to take than halls.

Some Possibilities -
Viral - up to ~90% of throat infections are viral.

Can cause fever and make you feel like crap

Bacterial - Strep. throat - Typically temp >100.4 F

Are the lymph nodes in your neck enlarged ?
White patches of puss on throat may or may not be present... so it's not definitive...

You possibly caught a strain with some resistance - in which case your doctor should prescribe a different antibiotic. Hopefully the test results will shed light on Monday.

ADVIL -

You may want to back off on the Advil - the UK guidelines for ibuprofen are 1200mg/day typical up to Max. 2400mg for severe inflammatory conditions under doctors supervision (rheumatoid arthritis etc.). Dosage is every 6 to 8 hours. (Granted the US version seems to be 3200mg).

You can take ibuprofen with acetaminophen (500 - 1000 mg, every 4-6 hours, max 8 daily).

Soluble tablets (aspirin/acetominophen) are a good idea - you can gargle them to get a local action then swallow. Though you can't take aspirin and ibuprofen at the same time - both are NSAIDs.

You can also gargle salt water (normal saline 0.9%), it provides a bit of relief and can help kill off any bacteria present - no limits on frequency. If you need to make it up 1 teaspoon of salt in 550ml will get you close... (can't say a pint because US pint is too small...)

Alternatively go for a good mouthwash eg. Corsodyl (active ingredient Chlorhexidine Gluconate), will help kill off any bacteria.

Throat sprays containing local aesthetics will numb the area and provide several hours relief - these can be used in conjunction with analgesics too.

If you have any questions shoot...

My Lymph-nodes are fine as far as I know and my throat has no puss, I actually got some sleep today which was great, I woke up at 7:30 am and took some advil and my antibiotic, and watched tv which then I passed out till 3:30 which is great since I haven't been able to get over 4 hours a sleep at one time.

So I bought this spray with Phenol, It works great to numb my mouth but how can I get it to effect my throat better?

Good to hear, try and aim it at the back of your throat. Possibly use a bit more I don't know how the pump works? So that it runs down your throat? Gargle? Phenol is pretty good at diffusing through mucus membranes, so contact with the effected area is what you are aiming for I guess...

Read the instructions (so you don't overdose) and play around with your aim.

I don't know what that is. Keep taking the anti-biotics and, if the pain and white stuff stick around, go see the doctor oncemore.
