^ thats great for you. Unfortunately Its been almost 8 days since I got sick, and the Antibiotic still has no effect. One day worth left.
My throat is bad now and while its not getting better its not getting worse, I just chain use halls and take some Advil and the pain becomes manageable. I am taking Advil every 4 hours 400, to 600 mg per dose today alone I already took 5 dosages today, I really dont like taking so much advil its been like this for the past week. But its the only thing that gives me some relief.
I am guessing this is Viral rather then bacterial. Blood work was not in on friday, It should be in by Monday.
I just want to get over this already bah.
Some Possibilities -
Viral - up to ~90% of throat infections are viral.
Can cause fever and make you feel like crap
Bacterial - Strep. throat - Typically temp >100.4 F
Are the lymph nodes in your neck enlarged ?
White patches of puss on throat may or may not be present... so it's not definitive...
You possibly caught a strain with some resistance - in which case your doctor should prescribe a different antibiotic. Hopefully the test results will shed light on Monday.
ADVIL -
You may want to back off on the Advil - the UK guidelines for ibuprofen are 1200mg/day typical up to Max. 2400mg for severe inflammatory conditions under doctors supervision (rheumatoid arthritis etc.). Dosage is every 6 to 8 hours. (Granted the US version seems to be 3200mg).
You can take ibuprofen with acetaminophen (500 - 1000 mg, every 4-6 hours, max 8 daily).
Soluble tablets (aspirin/acetominophen) are a good idea - you can gargle them to get a local action then swallow. Though you can't take aspirin and ibuprofen at the same time - both are NSAIDs.
You can also gargle salt water (normal saline 0.9%), it provides a bit of relief and can help kill off any bacteria present - no limits on frequency. If you need to make it up 1 teaspoon of salt in 550ml will get you close... (can't say a pint because US pint is too small...)
Alternatively go for a good mouthwash eg. Corsodyl (active ingredient Chlorhexidine Gluconate), will help kill off any bacteria.
Throat sprays containing local aesthetics will numb the area and provide several hours relief - these can be used in conjunction with analgesics too.
