I don't know what that is. Keep taking the anti-biotics and, if the pain and white stuff stick around, go see the doctor oncemore.

yea that's were some of the pain is coming from, if I touch it it does not hurt, I think its radiating up there. Anyhow I finished my Antibiotics today. And I should be getting the blood work results later today at 9amish. I am most likely going to get another appointment to show them the white stuff. Hopefully I get some sort of Meds that will knock this out. I have a calc test on friday eh :(

Layman translation: WTFOMGHOLYCRAPBBQ.

Am feeling the need to disinfect my screen and keyboard after seeing that.

Hope you get it knocked out soon.

I'm not a doctor but I think the white stuff is a byproduct of your body's immune response to the infection.

Call your doctor. I had pharyngitis too which I got amox for. My doc said to call him if I didn't feel noticably better after 4 days. after 8-9 days and youre feeling as bad or worse, its not gonna go away on its own. If your doc thinks its just a resistant strain, he should be able to phone in a script for something stronger to save you a trip. Also, send him those pictures

I went to the doctor today, they saw the white stuff and I also woke up to a full body rash which does not itch too bad if I dont think about it. I got a doctors note for the week off. And they are still testing for something. The doctor though I had mono but the EBV test came back negative, now they are testing for CMV. I have something, And now more waiting for blood tests. And they said to treat the symptoms as it happens and instructed me not to take Advil unless I get a fever of 100.4 or higher.

On the bright side, no advil since 9am and no fever and not so much pain, my throat is better but still hurts. Lets hope this feeling better carries over to the next day.

The absolute best thing I've found for sore throat (even bad strep) is plain old hard candies. Cherry, apple, grape, lemon, whatever. The sucking action and the sugar do loads more for the pain than any halls ever did, and they're not a pain to eat like most throat drops. I bought a 10lb box of hard candies for sore throat a couple years ago for $5, better and cheaper than any of those crappy menthol things. Plus you can have them any other time too ;)

Well apparently I got a Amoxacilin rash which googleing shows people. Have had the same reaction after finishing.

I have 3-5 days of itching ahead of me, sore throat is no longer my# 1 issue now..

Yup it's just exudate... a mixture of stuff including leukocytes (white blood cells) hence the white colour.

Rash isn't good. So you did the right thing contacting your physician...

Typically an allergic amoxicillin rash occurs within 48hr, since you say it's not too itchy that's good! (obviously an allergic reaction has the potential to be really bad...) Though with everybody being different it wouldn't be unheard of.

It could be a viral rash- mono - EBV is known to be associated with late non-allergic rashes with amoxicillin. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a similar family to EBV.

The rash may be a result rare side effect of ibuprofen, which is why the doctor is telling you to lay off it. As I said acetaminophen (paracetamol) is an alternative - it has both antipyretic and analgesic properties.

Hope that you still feel better tomorrow, though I find the dull ache of recovering from a viral sore throat can take a while to fade :(

Did you know that it's not the virus that causes the sore throat? It's the bodies immune response damaging infected cells to get at the virus...

I don't have much experience with the throat, but I do understand what exudate is. So would that be considered a purulent exudate? That's not exactly a great sign. On top of that, I was under the impression that you could actually get colonies of bacteria forming within the nooks and crannies of the throat. How are you not sure it's not just bacteria? I'm not that experienced with true medicine so I'm honestly asking because I don't know how you would tell. Thanks in advance.

If you google "amoxicillin rash after stopping" you will see I am not the only one, it alsmot like a withdraw effect. Not that I have been in withdraw of anything but when I stopped taking it the next day rash. I stopped taking it since I was finished with the 7days and took all of the,

If I google image "Amox. Rash" I have the same thing in the pictures.

I was tested EBV and it was negative, I did read on wiki(yea I know) that 80-90% of people who have EBV get a rash after amox.

I am getting tested again I guess and tested for the others.

I am not sure what it is, the doctor does not know and I am leaning to change to a more experienced doctor.

I am actually feeling a crap load worse now, sore throat not so much but fever and I feel week. I am not moving much but my rash does ich here and there.

and I am hungry now and my throat does hurt me, I am still breathing normally and no nausea or diarrhea. Just this damn fever and now amox skin rash.

I thought I was getting better today :(

Also as far as I know there isnt any treatment for EBV or related its just rest.

My doctor told me to not take Advil unless my fever goes above 100.4 , to guess I limit my intake, I had a low fever for hours and an hour ago it flared to 101.0 so I took some.

I took Tylenol and it felt relief within 30 min but then it wore off in an hour.

I just guess I need to rest and drink as much as I can.

Paracetamol is a lot less dangerous than most NSAIDs IMO. Far fewer side effects, fewer toxicity effects, and it's a pretty good analgesic as well. If you take 10-15g a day there's a danger of liver failure because of buildup of byproducts, but you should be fine taking a 500mg dose every couple hours or so.

Purulent just means that the exudate contains pus - which consists of white blood cells, cellular debris, and necrotic tissue (and is generally whiteish/yellow - think spots). So it probably qualifies as purulent, but that doesn't tell you it's bacterial, the best way to tell would be to do a throat swab to identify what would be there. In the case of the throat it basically shows that the body is mounting an immune response against something. Mounting an immune response is good. The fact that he completed a full course of antibiotics before the whiteness presented isn't brilliant.

However as you say you can get bacteria growing in the skin folds, and it is a possibility that he has a secondary infection - due to either the trauma caused by the primary infection or a change in microbial flora due to the antibiotics - and the body is responding to that...

As with most things - know your body and if something doesn't seem right get to a doctor. The OP asked about courses of antibiotics - you shouldn't have to take the whole course for it to have an effect - in fact the reason why you are told to complete the course, even if you feel better, is to prevent the development of resistance.

I guess I didn't explain myself brilliantly - partly because it was late and partly because I was trying to be tactful.

There seems to be a link between giving amoxicillin to people with viral infections and rashes on stopping. Your doctor is testing you for CMV so must have his reasons, which is similar to EBV, so if you have an underlying viral infection it could be responsible for the rash.

I am getting tested again I guess and tested for the others.

A second opinion can't hurt.

I am actually feeling a crap load worse now, sore throat not so much but fever and I feel week. I am not moving much but my rash does ich here and there.

Especially if you are feeling worse.
Did the doctor not give you something for the rash?

There really is no reason why it should be wearing off after an hour... at 1 hour after your dose you should just be hitting peak plasma concentrations...

Very weird.

Hope that you feel better soon. Being ill sucks and you seem to have had a bad run :(

Update:

So my throat is swollen now, I had to be admitted to the hospital because of my dehydration. Blood tests also showed elevated Liver enzymes I had an MRI and everything is clean.

I am set to be let out tomorrow pending tests to see how my blood work looks like.

I have been seen by a few specialists, GI, ID.. and Their concensous is that I have Mono.

Hopefully I will be over this soon.

I just felt like adding my two cents about amoxy....I hate the stuff. I always get prescribed it but it does absolutely no good for me. I now just argue with the doctor until i get penicillin. I know their supposed to be the same thing basically but one shot of peniccilin just does wonders for me.

^ Already lost 24lbs lol.

Throat swelling is going down, white stuff seems to be retracting. I think in 2 days I will be pain free in my mouth hopefully.

you had mono the whole time? stop taking the amoxicillin immediately... you'll end up with an amoxicillin rash all over and feel swollen.

Thanks, I found out

I am getting better now, went out with the family but did not feel 100%. I ate though.

Update-

So yea pretty much feel back to normal and want to actually exercise again. I was 210, and now I am 228, my weight before I got sick was 236

I am so weak muscle wise heh, doing things I normally did I get sore. But apparently my spleen is slightly enlarged so I have been ordered by the doctor to not do much. Meh

Got to wait until the 29th for a check up.

Mono sucks...

Some good news, I did miss like 4 weeks of school , but I finished the semester strong. Who needs to go to college the whole time :p
