AMD RYZEN Builders Thread

That could be some nice margin and market share padding for AMD looking at that price.
Meanwhile A520 ITX boards disappeared from local webstores. Only B550 available almost twice the price. There goes my Cézanne build.

Wow, so convenient to have a micro center in reach. The above prices are ridiculous to my eye. Just checked I can gate a 3700x for $280 right now if I wanted it.

Well, if the pandemic didn't happen, I doubt AMD would have made a production run of these, and I could walk into Best Buy and get a 3100, 3300X, 3600 or some kind of Zen3 APU for $200 or less...

That's a little interesting. Hadn't the 1800x disappeared? I'd expect their to still be some Zen1 stuff floating around just for OEM obligations but top of the stack parts wouldn't likely be that. I've said they should start pumping out more 12nm stuff to take the wind out of Intel's sales a bit on the low end. Obviously more 7nm stuff would be better but there's only so much 7nm.

These have to be a new production run, will know Friday what the lot date is.

Prices are crazy right now. I'm still using a 1700X (at 3.8Ghz all-core clocks) for my main rig, and they're selling for nearly $200 used still. I've thought about just outright buying a 3800X(T) just to extend my platform a bit longer and sell the 1700X's while the market is pretty toasty to make up some of the difference.

You are right about prices staying high.

I sold my 3800X for $400 CAD at the end of jan.

Well, the pandemic made this active again (I am stuck work from home all summer).

Looks like there is a new run of 1800X's. Ordered one from Amazon, and now Newegg has them too.

Got a Noctua NM-AM4-L9aL9i to use the Scythe Mugen 2 Rev B on it also.

Grabbed some Crucial 3600 DDR4, maybe above 3200 is possible?

That was a bust, wrong item was binned, lol.

I know I should ask in the mobo or RAM sub topic but I have had a TUF Gaming X570 motherboard + Ryzen 3800X and I have had G.Skill Ripjaw V 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3600 PC4-28800 CL19 Dual Channel Desktop Memory Kit F4-3600C19D-32GVRB .

Now occasionally when I resume from hibernation I get a black screen and i would have to hold the power button to reset it. I realized the last few times my mobo light was showing red for the CPU. Should i be concerned my CPU is dying or is it more likely something is not initialized properly? I am not overclocking anything but the DOCP for my RAM to run at 3600Hz.

I happens less than once a month but I would like to get it more stable. I don't think it is an issue once windows is going but i can run some more stability tests to confirm.

Are you using the most current bios for your board?

No, I am on the second newest build 3603 and I keep checking hoping for a non beta BIOS but I suppose I should give it a whirl. Beta BIOS has been out since April 1st.

I'm on the same bios stay on it. I also avoid beta's!!

Is your system stock any overclocking?

What version of Windows?

I wanted to thank everyone that has posted their experiences in this thread. Reading through it ensured my build went buttery smooth. Nothing fancy - 1500x, Asrock AB350 Gaming K4, 2x8GB Geil Super Luce DDR4 3000 (running@2933). No overclocking yet.

Keep the great info coming.
This was my first Ryzen build. Since then, I have built over 100 Ryzen based systems for myself and others. I gave this CPU to one of my techs that had built by happenstance before I met him, the same FX 8350 and MSI 970 Gaming combo I had built. His VRMs burned up just like mine. 🤣 We both knew we were dumbasses for not actively cooling them. Or better yet, springing for a good 990FX board. He decided to build Ryzen like I had, and I wanted the Ryzen 1600 anyways.

My favorite memory is a kid and his dad bringing in their Zen build because they could not get the stock wraith cooler mounted. The kid was in the PC gaming club they started at his H.S. It was his first DIY build and he knew you should not use excessive force on PC parts. I showed him how to line it up then used "excessive force" to get those stupid stiff springs to get it started. 😛 I did not charge them, it was one of those - you did the right thing moments.

Late last year I felt like downsizing my PC since my use case had simplified a lot lately, so I parted out the PC and sold it on ebay/FB market.

Then I went searching online and found a still new Asrock x370 Fatality for $100, a open box RX 570 for $57, and a 2nd hand Ryzen 1800X for $60.

gonna see how long this nostalgia first gen Ryzen system can last me

from the CPU? all I ever recall reading about ryzen vulnerabilities was that the attacker needed physical access to the PC to execute.

I'm also no longer on windows if that makes any difference
There's mitigations that are loaded automatically that can/will affect performance. You can probably disable them if you think they're unnecessary.

Interesting comparison, but given the situation(DDR4 and DDR5 high prices)it is expected that people rush to the Ryzen R5 5500 now.

The Amazon list of best-selling processors confirms the situation. If anyone is interested, the Intel i5 12400F is on the solid 52nd place on that list.

Locally in my area, the R5 5500 carries a price tag of 76 euros.

I wonder if we'll see AMD spin back up production of 5000X3D AM4 in the face of the DDR5 apocalypse.
If it is feasible, they'd sell great. I see so many posts from AM4 users that missed the window, wishing they could get one now without selling a kidney.
