AMD RYZEN Builders Thread

  • 3200 MHz: Prime X370 lacks UEFI setting for higher DRAM boot voltage, so does not boot at all.
  • 2933 MHz: Does boot, but instable. Tried to use even more loose timings, but at a certain point the increase in latency seems too big.
  • 2666 MHz: Did not try, because trying to find stable settings compared to the meagre performance increase seems not worth the effort.

So I currently run the Vengeance LPX currently at stable 2133. As a side note, these are Hynix memory modules.
What vengeance lpx?
I have two different chip kits of lpx 3000 that both run 2933. One on c14 the other c15 xmp.
The c14 needs 1.4v and proct 43 ohm and and bunch of other setting i can show.
 
Is FlareX memory a reasonable choice for a Prime X370 Pro mainboard? For example F4-3200C14D-16GFX ?

Currently I have the CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 Vengeance LPX 3200, but all my attempts at overclocking this kit were not stable.

Are there any other memory options with reasonable high OC (low latency, high frequency) results for the Prime X370 Pro?

FlareX DDR4-3200C14D-16GFX ought to be Samsung b-die. That Corsair kit you mentioned is probably Hynix. So that might explain why OCing the kit would not work well for you.

I don't know how far you can push that FlareX though.
 
What is your VSOC?... DRAM boot voltage is not big issue for XMP.
I tried VSoC up to 1.1V - it did not work for this module & mainboard combination.

Getting it near to the specified OC profile would be good. But I'm wary that the mainboard would prohibit such an endeavor. The memory compatibility list for the Prime X370 Pro has been updated last time in July and there are lots of reports that previously working overclocks fail after upgrading to newer UEFI versions.
 
I wouldn't worry about the mem compatibility list. Generally-speaking, Ryzen likes b-die. If all you want is DDR4-3200 CAS/CL 14-14-14-32 or whatever, I can tell you that most AM4 boards have been able to hit that from day 1 with b-die. Now we have subtimings exposed on some boards, allowing much tighter tuning.

Following up on the 1700X build I talked about a few pages back, I am reading a 60 Celsius CPU temperature while rendering on all 16 threads. This number is from the latest HWMonitor and I don't know whether the 20C offset is applied or not, or if the temperature sensor on Ryzen is calibrated or not (bulldozers weren't if I recall correctly). Is it safe to run it at this temperature for prolonged periods?

Check it against Ryzen Master, which should show the correct temp. 60C is perfectly fine for load temp, though. 🙂

Why are you concerned about temperature offset?
Its not -20 Celsius, its +20 Celsius so if you have applied temperature offset then you CPU runs at 40Celsius under load.... doesn't sound right?

If you are under 80C it is good, even 80-85C... since we all like "cold" CPUS we want to run below 70-75C under heavy load. Basically your R7 is super cold.

Even high temperatures won't kill you CPU easy, if the voltages are "safe" and you have safety (throttle) ON then you should be just fine.

I won't say that running your CPU above 90C is good, but your CPU will start to throttle once it is above safe temperature.

What people forgets that usually VRMs on cheap motherboards will get "hot". That's why MB die in a year or two.
 
My ryzen build parts have started to come in and am excited. Just wanted to know since am no gamer will a GT 710 ddr5 2gb be enough to atleast boot my system and power up the display .
Following are the prices in my country:
Gt 710: 30$
Gt 730:70$
Gt 1030: 80$

Assuming the temps read are accurate, they're not alarming, right? Don't know if any of those sensors are close to the VRMs, though.

Well, just be sure that you are not pushing it to hard.

Yeah, that must be a bad reading.
As to pushing it, I found nothing pushes a CPU more than rendering. I stress-tested it with prime95 and that only rose the temperature to around 50C.

Regarding CPU overclocks: If I test with CPU-Z stress-test and after a while the score drops and then slowly starts to crawl up again, could it be that the cooling is insufficient? The difference between the top value and the lower value ist about 50 points in CPU-Z stress test.
 
The only way you can really reliably tell if the offset is being applied to the CPU or not in what you are seeing is to either use Core Temp, or Ryzen Master.
