That being said, I'm curious to see what tips and tricks people might have for Zen 3, as I just snagged a 5600X today and may be a good time to do some further learning!

Can't see what cooling you're gonna use, but from my little experience it yields more performace, than it did to zen2. I had EK Al cooled parts since r5 1600, so can say LC is a must if you gonna get the most out of it.
Luckily I haven't seen any whea or other issues, just cleared cmos on MB, replace old 3600X and reinstall chipset drivers. Asrock then kindly provided me the latest beta bios with unlocked PBO Boost Override. So what I would pay attention to:

1. Looks like currently FCLK hardlimited to 1900 in bios (tbf haven't bothered)
2. For me it took some tuning to run more or less stable at 1900fclk/3800mt mem. I had to manually set vsoc to 1.1 / strongest LLC, vddp to 920mv, vddg to 1.02 and raise vdimm 20mv up (1.38 from 1.36).
3. Next is "rage mode":

• pbo limits: motherboard​
• scalar: 1x​
• boost override: 350​
• CO: -10 for 2 best cores, and -20 for the rest.​

May have missed something, but basically thats it. Pic below is some preliminary demo of what it is capable of. Anyway, feel free to ask for any details.

Just a plain ol' tower cooler (Cooler Master Hyper 212 LED). The case itself is fairly well ventilated (two 43 cfm intakes, two 43 cfm outputs). Not having an AIO may make things a little more restricted, but we'll see what I can get out of it! Thank you

Sweet rig!! Your B-Die sticks are better quality than mine. I can do CR1 with Cas16, or CR2 with Cas15, but no Cas14 with quad sticks 🙁

I did buy 2 16GB kits, but wound up with consecutive serial numbers. Maybe it helps?

The uEFI version/implementation hold the keys to the kingdom when it comes to FCLK and memory overclocking ability.

I have a really good set of 3200 CL14 b-die that have proven this many times on my rigs. One uEFI version I can go all the way to 4266MHz in 1:1 while other versions won't even boot 3800MHz in 1:1 mode.

Same ram, same cpu with the only variable being the uEFI versions. My spare parts build below with the 5600x is currently living proof. With the latest beta uEFI version the best she'll do is 3733MHz CL14 1:1 it looks like. I couldn't even get it to boot up at 3800MHz 1900 FCLK....Before the uEFI update I had no issues booting 4000MHz 2000 FCLK.

I managed to get the memory color pretty close to the RX on the 6800. It might be slightly off, but I think it looks better. I still have to work on another memory profile....Team red theme!



On another note after the exorcism of the evil Nvidia card from the above rig I was only missing 1 item to make a second rig.

I found this local yesterday for around $30 more then it would have cost me at Microcenter if I camped out overnight, spent around $15 in gas and wasted around 3hrs round trip fighting traffic....Well worth it for me.



I had to rip out the AIO from the front and mount it up top. Dealing with all the fan cables and rgb wiring kind of sucks on a compact case. The Aorus Master RTX 3070 barely fit.

She's not as pretty as my main rig. The stock pcie-e power cables look bad, I need to order another set of extensions for the rig....I took them out and used in my other rig.

Per Thaiphoon this is a Samsung B-die kit.

It won't even boot at 3400 with the default timings, even if I bump up the voltage a touch to 1.36V.
It BSODs when I plug in "safe" timings for 3200 from Ryzen DRAM calculator into the BIOS.
So I can't tighten the timings at rated MT/s, nor can I boost MT/s at same timings.

Seems IMC isn't the issue... Kind of turns me off of G.skill RAM to be honest, unless I'm missing something huge.

That being said, the 5600X is really fast. I doubted I'd notice a difference in everyday use, and maybe I'm just particular, but this thing is just immediate.

I'm not sure what browser AT was running, but my score was much better than theirs, just in Chrome, Incognito mode, no extensions.
Was happy to see my CB20 ST match Anandtech / TPU score and MT run beat AT's score and TPU's stock score by a fair amount.
GB5 scores look good save for the MT score, which is oddly lower than AT's.

Of note, in CB20 and CB23 MT, this chip was holding a minimum 4.575-4.6GHz all-core boost and limited by thermals (throttling down at 80C). ST it just sat at 4.65GHz the whole time, raising temps over sleep by ~10C. I know there's more juice in this bad boy!

For just enabling PBO, base 3200CL16 RAM, and a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 LED tower cooler, I'm pretty happy.

The RAM gets me... seems like even though it identifies as B-die, it's just a bad bin.

The board offers a plethora of RAM speeds over 3200 MT/s, none of them work. I didn't go beyond 3600 MT/s, as it seems incredibly unlikely that it would work when nothing else did. Are you sure it's B-Die? I can't remember seeing a 3200 CL16-18-18 kit that was B-Die but I'm certainly not an expert.

Question for all of you who've done builds. I'm purchasing a 5950x from a member here and I'd love to know what motherboard you guys recommend?

I need (2) M.2 slots, PCIe 4.0 slots to run a 3080 GPU, and a 10GbE card, 4 DIMM slots (hopefully with 128GB support), and 4-6 SATA ports all will be SSD 1-2TB.

I've seen a lot of people mention the ROG CROSSHAIR VIII DARK HERO. I haven't been able to find it. Any other recommendations or wait?

Also, as for RAM, what speed should I be looking for. I have 64GB of Corsair 3200 / CL16 from another build that I can use. Should I try that or get higher speed RAM and I'd also appreciate any recommendations.

I bought a 16GB kit of Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB RGB 3200MHz 16-18-18-36 a while ago on sale to try out, but wound up returning it. Thaiphoon Burner said it was Samsung b-die, but was really low quality stuff if so. I had similar results as
you when I tried to tighten the timings or bump up the speed.

I'm down to around ~54-55ns on the latency which is a huge improvement over the ~67ns it was at 3733mhz CL16 and auto timings the rest of the way.

This is where I'm at with my new kit of 2x16GB 4000Cl16 TridentZ RGB set to 4000 CL16 1:1 (CL16 fast timings from ryzen timing calculator for 3800 b-die). I have extremely stringent stability requirements, so I run a 40-pass memtest86. It's over halfway done without a hiccup.

What do you use to test the stability of your memory oc ? I'm pretty sure your current settings is unstable in pretty much all memory-stabilitytest programs...
Try to run memtest 100% or 500% in the dram calculator and see if you an error.

That tRCDRD 13 @ 64gigs ram is very wishful.. tRC should also be tRP+tRas = 38 in your case

I guess seeing the 5900x was the driving force it'll be cpu related to an extent.

Tweaked the memory, played around with RGB, set fan profiles in uEFI, toyed with PBO settings!

I maxed all the sliders except the memory, altered the fan curve a little, set the memory at 2086MHz fast timings.

The good old canned benchmarks that I've been doing for years! Interesting to see the progression of the gpu's I've had.

My placement standings for the RX 6800....The pecking order of RX 6800's

Time Spy....I'm currently in 9th, 10th place, but the solo card #1 spot....IgorsLab is #14....9th out of 7636 results.

I have my memory on the 3800MHz C16 tight timing profile. I didn't run tests with different memory clocks to see if there was a difference. I'm leaning towards 3800MHz
would have the best results anyways. Not sure if timings would play a role or not in overall scores.

I believe that the max clocks are hardcoded in the bios and can't be altered. It would be nice to see how far she could really go in the end.

The key property of lower end B-Die kits are equal CL-RCD-RP timings, and timings rather lowish like 3200C14 or 3200C15. But i'd strongly suggest looking up each and every in site above and/or https://benzhaomin.github.io/bdiefinder/

I couldn't boot tRC that low. I haven't stability tested yet - I'm looking for a theoretical max benchmark stable and then relax them to 100% MemTest, etc. from there. I'll definitely update once I do.

Are you sure on that? My kit is F4-3600C17D-16GTZ which is B-die and listed there, but thaiphoon shows the single stick model number as F4-3600C16-8GTZ which doesn't pop a hit on the b-die finder. It has the same K4A8G085WB-BCPB dram model number as that though.

P.S. There is boatload of DRAM listed as B-Die in Thaiphoon , that is not and is different Samsung DRAM

EDIT: How I always interpretted the Hardware Deluxe list is the columns marked with exlusivity "Ja" mean DRAM is exlusively with B-die, "Nein" means some kits are built with different dies and whether they have correct SPD programming to tell the chips apart? No idea, but I had really bad experience with some kits on the limbo. While some 3000C14 were amazing. The B-Die finder site just gives the safe choices.

Your experience might differ, just problems in OC combined with 16-18-18 timings don't give much hope.

Ah, so the thaiphoon part number readout is incorrect then? Do you know if that's read from the stick or if its just a table maintained by thaiphoon?
If the DRAM part is incorrect the really loose timing would make a lot more sense.
