So everyone has there preferred processor they are targeting. For a brand new from scratch build that isn't high end is 5600X value for the money vs. 3800X? (Microcenter prices are identical)

Almost had a 5950x. In cart at best buy, clicked confirm order and it was out of stock.

It also was gone within about 10 seconds.

I had a 5950X from Proshop. Server crashed on check out.
Then I went to amd.com, server crashed after check out. But they charged my card already.
amd.com is till down right now.
I did not even have a confirmation page lol. Lets see if i get a confirmation email.
I went to anandtech.com, it is also down, wth.

At least now I have an order number and a confirmation email XD.

One of the exciting thing I read about the Zen3 are reduced thermals by 5 degrees at least. I am looking forward to a quiet operation with my 5950X.

ASUS just updated the product page with more details and added the support page with drivers/bios/etc. Expecting that means it will show up for sale shortly.

Actually best buck for the bang Gaming CPU today is the Core i5 10400F

Between the 5600X and 3800X , the first is the best choice for gaming.
Core i5 10400F Gaming performance wise is almost identical but at half the price vs 3800XT

Awesome info, thanks. As with any question, mine was a little light on details. I'm an occasional gamer although this will be the first rig in a while with a semi-decent video card in it....so who knows. An intel build to take advantage of their gaming prowess and cheaper pricing right now does make sense, but I'm more of a productivity/CAD/gamer.

I misjudged the timing on the release, was 40 minutes late. I think I could have got the 5600X on Newegg since it showed in stock, but... I was planning on a 5950X, So I didn't pull the trigger. oh well, I'm sure stock will back within a few days or weeks and my 3700x is perfectly fine. It's just fun to have the latest.

It was hilarious that I couldn't access the Anandtech review at the time b/c the site wasn't loading... good times

I'm struggling with which Zen 3 part to get or maybe pick up a 10900K. For gaming, I'm not seeing a huge difference above 1080p that's meaningful. My 3970X just doesn't cut it for gaming and was hoping that it would be an easy decision. Maybe the scarcity of part will help make a better decision on what to do.

9900k is $300. But at that point why not a 5600K? It looks like it essentially wins in multithreaded and single threaded benches against anything not Zen 3 based and it seems like, based on the time it took MC to sell out of them, they will be in greater supply generally speaking.

But, really, how much (significantly) better is anything than a 3970x at gaming? I was just checking the specs on that again and from cache to dram bandwidth it looks killer. Does it have memory latency issues or what?

The Dark Hero can automatically switch between per-CCX static OC and default boosting behaviour if you set a current threshold. Will be interesting to test this feature.

I tried to get a 5950x; managed to get one in my cart directly from AMD; but multiple network issues giving me "Service Unavailable" and later "access denied" (I suspect that AMD had flagged me as a Bot since I had to refresh so many times to get to the next page). I made it to the last screen for the final confirmation only to never have it go through.

Had a second chance at Bestbuy and had it added to the card; but unavailable by the time you could actually checkout.

I guess I'll be sticking with my 3900x for a while longer........

I think it's average clock speed but I'm not positive.

The 3970X compared to the 9900K is worse in pretty much every game I've played on it. From lower frame rates to Far Cry 5/New Dawn not being able to handle more than 16 cores. I also get better results in benchmarks like in 3D mark if you don't factor in the CPU in Timespy.

That being said, I was hoping to either sell the 3970X or covert it into a VM server. The HTPC has a 3080 FTW3 which doesn't fit in the case and is unusable until I can find another card, therefore the 9900k may become the HTPC. That leaves me with a gap for my office/workstation which doesn't require a high core CPU (>16) but I do game on it. Already picked up a X570 motherboard but now I'm having second thoughts. The 5950X and 5900X seem like a great workstation part, but the 10900K is close enough in games and still packs 10 cores.

Looking at 384/720 results and similar cpu bound testing i am 100% the ryzen3 5900 line is solidly faster in gaming. Also on the longer run due to much better throughput. Beeing througput limited is as painfull as say latency limited.
As for the 1080 results i think the 6800xt and 6900 cards will show it more clearly. I am running a 8700k for gaming now but the ryzen3 is simply just a beast for everything. Take eg csgo vs ryzen2 or Intel. I tried to get a 5600 or 5900 today but failed.
No need to get a 10900 when a 5900 is just a hammer and its more or less same cost imo. But yeaa you can buy a 10850k everywhere and its cheap.

For sure man, I am on desktop so can see your sig & I've been following your stuff in the FS/FT forum as well. It just seems like the 10900k is so... close... to the 9900K and you have one of those, it's just really incremental move. Why not put the 3090 in the spare and game on that? (100% not being critical or anything and I realize it might not be that simple)

"I have money and I don't want to" is an incredibly likely and serviceable answer as well

If only I had crpyto so I could be celebrating btc at $15k I might make some "questionable" decisions too (or AMD stock from $3 or, or, or you get the idea.)

I actually did that for a few weeks and remembered how much I love that build. One of the few systems that has worked flawlessly without random BSOD, driver issues or games that gives me fits. Both my 3970X and prior 2700X had various gremlins and was hoping that the more mature X570 and Zen3 architecture would be the silver bullet for. May just sit back and see what happens to the 5950X pre-order at BH.
