Yay!

Newegg order #1 arrived today for my main computer:
3900X
Asus Tuf Gaming X570
G-Skill FlareX 3200 2x16GB RAM
Crucial MP600 2TB SSD
Crucial 2TB PCIe 4 NVMe

Got home too late and haven't put it together but excited for a higher-end update to my Ryzen 1 1700, Gigabyte B350 Gaming, 1 TB SSD.

Just installed my 3950X on a ROG Strix X470-F using AGESA 1004 BIOS and a few months out of date Windows 10 install. Looks to clock between 4150MHz-4175MHz for non AVX 32-thread workloads while hitting 3950MHz-3975MHz for full 32-thread AVX2 workloads at stock settings.

Interesting. What is your CBR15 MT score, and what average clocks are you getting in that bench?

I was able to exceed my best 3dMark score acquired using 3600 with ....
( screenshot ) Using IF 1900 usually hit below my old score, until I got this timing shown below.
P95 still running ( over 12 hours now )
I want to drop the voltage now. ( see if I need it )

What is too hot for DDR ? ( currently 49C and 51C on 2 16GB sticks )

Anyone who can point me in a direction with some successfully working 3700x with cheap B450 motherboards?

The MSI Tomahawk Max looks good for at least a 3700x? It's out of the box support for 3700x is nice. I know memory pairing is hit or miss with Ryzen chips and boards as well. Which

IDK what max temps on memory are, but 122F certainly sounds quite reasonable. Nice to see that hitting a 1900MHz FCLK is allot easier to hit than I’d been led to believe.

I hear MSi has the best B450 boards so i would go with the Tomahawk Max.

Does the fun ever end when you build a (mostly) new computer?

Clear space on living room floor. Disassemble old case (easy as it's toolless). Unplug everything. Unscrew motherboard. Didn't miss a screw or plug so it came out first try. Remove RAM as it's going into a different computer. Remove GPU for this computer.

Install 3900X. Get it lined up first time. Install provided CPU cooler but have problems getting the clip lined up properly. Finally succeed but I was probably being overcautious with a $500 CPU. Look around for CPU fan header and resort to looking in manual. This board has LOTS of fan headers so I choose the one closest to CPU.

I plug the rest of my case fans in (two top, two front, one rear) to fan headers. Yay fan headers! Previous board only had 4 fan headers so two fans had to be plugged into a Molex adapter I had. Toss Molex connector and remove a power cable from the power supply. Yay!

Start to plug everything else in. USB3 header is in a different spot so I have to reroute the cable. Bend a pin on the header. Straighten it. Bend another pin. Straighten it. Resort to getting my portable light so I can see. Success! Plug everything else in.

Move computer back to desk. Plug all the stuff into the back into the computer. While attempting to plug a too-short USB cable into my monitor I accidentally turn my computer on. At least I got my Power connector attached correctly!!!

BSOD!!! Bugcode_NDIS_driver. I restart several times. Same error. To Google, I go! Google says it's often caused by wireless drivers. Restart computer. Enter BIOS. Disable wireless while being thankful I have a wired connection to the internet. Fixed!

Blu-ray player not recognized. Unplug and check. It had become unplugged at the drive end.

Restart and after a few restarts I get Windows Activation errors. Running through the troubleshooter fails and I have to resort to calling Microsoft and I get one of those annoying "please describe your problems" automated voices. "Activating Windows", I say. Not recognized. "What the F***?" Also not recognized, oddly enough.

While on hold I search for my Windows 7 Pro disc with Product Key but only manage to find my Windows 7 Premium disc in the attic. I finally reach a human. Describe my problem. Get transferred. Continue to search while on hold. Find Windows 7 Pro disc ON MY DESK. Because, clearly, the last time I did this I was smart enough to put it within reach but also, clearly, I am not smart enough to remember having done so.

Right now I'm cloning from my boot SSD to NVMe drive after hunting down the software on Crucial's website. I had to unpartition my drive before cloning and it took a few minutes fiddling with the settings to clone a 1 TB drive to a 2 TB drive.

But wait! There's more! Because I get to install another SSD and copy from my mechanical HDs to my old 1 TB SSD and new 2 TB SSD. AND I get to try to fix the wireless adapter and get the Bluetooth working. AND THEN I get to install my new LG 144Hz monitor.

So. Much. Fun.

P.S. I also bought a tiny Sugo SG13 in white and put it next to my TV. Entertainment center, bookshelves, and speakers are white so it blended in. It only took my wife four hours to notice it and yell at me. I consider that success. A 3600 will go in there.

Does anyone see anything wrong with this as far as memory settings/timings??? Anything I should poke around with to improve?

Yeah it has some very nice reviews on Newegg. Looks like 3600 works for most people at least the Ripjaws v kits. I almost thought about reusing my 2666mhz kit till i saw this from Nexus.

I have the Ripsaw V with my current Asus Tuf Gaming Plus mobo and 3800x. But i only got 16GB. I want to put that 16GB ripsaw V into the tomahawk Max when i replace my second PC but the tomahawk Max does not have the Ripsaw V in the QVL so that is awesome if it will work. I want to get 2x16GB Ripsaw V for my Asus so i get the dual rank boost.

Yeah still exploring kits though. Not going into that choice off a few comments or youtube videos will do more research though first. The more i look into my budget a 3900x and Gigabyte x570 Aorus Elite Wifi is even affordable. Would have to use my existing 2666mhz kit for close to another month before going into something different though which isn't the end of the world.

I would maybe pick your motherboard if my Seasonic FOCUS 650w had dual 8 pin cpu connectors. I only got the single 8 pin. I was sure all the X570 boards were locked to a 8+4 or 8+8 config. It's prob why the GB board may have to be it . It offers the world then some.

Yep, running the fast preset timings from that, with a couple of the settings being tighter.

Have you used Aida64 and checked latency and bandwidth? Pushing beyond the calculator settings can cause performance regression.

My 3200 cl14 kit is running at 3800 cl15 which is beyond the calculators suggested settings. Still playing around with it, but I'm probably tapped out already.

Hmm, here's my current config:

DDR3600CL14.png

Tried the 3800 MHz preset in BIOS - hard fail - had to clear CMOS.
Tried 3733 w/Ryzen Dram calculator numbers, wouldn't boot to windows, but I could get the bios back up and swap back to this profile.
Maybe my sticks aren't that great. I'll probably try 3733 with somewhat relaxed settings and see if that works, otherwise, this is it.

I think it's the infinity fabric that is the problem. It's like the coffins corner when flying above 47,000ft. It gets very touchy and somewhat unstable. I think @ 3733mhz you will be able to run those same timings without any instability.

which kit? I don't think my FlareX set would come close to 3800...

If asking me it's G.Skill Flare X 16GB kit. I bought it the week before 3xxx launched. Thinking it was made during peak memory pricing not tightly binned?
