well i forgot to mention, that the temps where still a lot higher on the abit board than on the epox board.. with the same chip, memory, case power supply etc the cpu temps for the abit was on a 1.5v where as the epox was using a 1.75v from the bios, which is also slightly lower (unvolted sort of thing...)

how on earth did you manage to get to that speed? i cant get to 2.3ghz on my epox board without having problems and that was rev 1.1... was that a bad thing or a good thing?
how do i know whats a good cpu and whats a bad one?

10.5 X 166 = 1743mhz
XP 1600+
Epox 8k5a2
single 512mb samsung 2700

i was wondering because i don't have a board that unlocks processors, and i dont forsee doing it myself.... my board doesnt have a 1/6 divider, so anything above 166 puts the pci/agp outta spec and things get squirrely. so, if i were to put in a different processor in the future... say a Barton 2800+, i wouldnt want to overclock by upping the fsb any higher than 166. so, would i then use a higher multiplier instead? Bartons come at 12.5, right? so i could use something higher, such as 14 or 15? are there any problems with doing this?

i know some boards don't allow those higher #s. they're actually obtained by using a 6 or 7 or whatever as the multi, and i believe this board is one of those, right?

Epox 8rda w/XP2100+
11*200

I just did the vdd mod and everything is running fine at 200. I will try for more later. For now I am going to make sure everything is running as it should.

10 x 230

ram async (75%, = 171mhz fsb)

its ghey, i have pc3200 ram, but its super unstable, my board's gone whacky ever since my psu blew up

i cant even do 80% (184mhz) or 83% (191mhz)

ram would do 11 x 200 sync, but that's it, no more

i had a 550w that died, now im using an old gateway 200w psu, and i SWEAR its sooo much better!!!!

that's why i always say quality over quanity

if you want a good one go with the allied true 450W from newegg or the fortron 350W from directron.com

they are AWESOME psu's that won't blow up on you when they hit 450w or 350w

I don't understand this post. You say RAM "will do" 11x200 sync (200MHz, right?), but then you say you "can't do" 191MHz?

I think you're getting something wrong maybe trying to set FSB too high (230?)...

If you can do 230x10(async), I don't see WHY you couldn't do 200x11.5 (sync)? Doesn't make sense.

I wan't your memory... :D

bah!

you can find nice pc3200 that'll do 2-2-2-6 or even 5 @ 200 mhz !!! that's much better :)

the twinmos/winbond ch-5 is around 90 bucks at memoryx.com

it can do around 244 mhz @ 2-3-2-7 or 2.5-3-3-7 ... 44 mhz o/c for a stick a ram is pretty impressive...

actually i can do 11.5 x 200, but doesnt "feel" stable (ram in sync)
10 x 230 feels a little snappier w/ dc enabled

and yes, when i do 230 for the cpu, the ram can't do 191 or 184, only 171 (in async), but can do 200 (in sync)
????

i dont think its the ram either... i think it had something to do w/ when the psu died... i've done 220 in sync (with different ram) but not after it blew up... :p

oh yeah, 31c idle and 38c load
8rda, (before = geil 3500c2, now = generic 3200)

When I set up new hardware I always run Sandra memory, memtest86, prime95, 3DMark01 and UT2003 benchmark to verify stability and figure out which settings perform the best.

Dumb question here, but how do you guys get such a high FSB? I can't go past 166 no matter what I do.
