I posted this some place else and will post it here.

Actually before dismissing this; the facts fit a little closer than a lot will want to admit. People keep forgetting the elephant in the room.....

XboxOne hardware......what is it based off of?
smile.gif
MS is now backtracking from earlier statements of wanting to walk away from DX from a couple years ago.

The tools for XboxOne are a mess; compaired to PS4 - which was the op for the beginning with 360 and PS3. Easiest way to do that is talk to the people that designed the hardware. This time around MS doesn't own the soc; its still AMD's baby; people that know it best are AMD.

So those scoffing at MS adopting Mantle as being silly; bs......I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss this; follow the logic; follow the hardware and see where it leads....back to AMD

Do AMD even support DX11.2 yet in their drivers? At the last check they didnt.

Yes they do; and support it better than Nvidia; seeing how Nvidia doesn't fully support 11.2; *only through 11 as they doesn't fully support 11.1* ;) Support just the game features of 11.1 and 11.2 does not qualify as fully supporting them no matter how you spin it.

Again, same as above. Please verify it via the DX Cap Viewer.

Last test showed 11.1 only.

Considering DX cap viewer also reports my usbs under ps/2 devices and I have agp slot when I don't.....

I wouldn't read into that.......but seeing how

Since
Feature Highlights of The AMD Catalyst 13.11 Beta9.2 Driver for Windows

DirectX 11.2 - Tier 1 Tiled Resources now supported on the following products:

  • AMD Radeon R9 280X
  • AMD Radeon R9 270X
  • AMD Radeon R7 250
  • AMD Radeon R7 240
  • AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series
  • AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series
  • AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series

I'm going to tend to lean towards believing AMD over DX cap viewer since its full of bs on rest of my items ;) You also completely ignored fact that Nvidia isn't even 11.2 or 11.1 cap........only 11.....

The "elephant in the room" is that Mantle only works on gcn (maybe only gcn 1.1?) architecture, which is what 10 or 15 percent of the market. Is it easier to modify DX to reduce cpu overhead, or to incorporate and modify a new API that only works on a small portion of the gpu architecutre (and that required multiple delays and patches just go get it working on that)? I dont really know, and unless someone has insider knowledge from MS or AMD, no one else does either.

In any case, I am not sure it really matters whose api is adopted. The performance will be what ever it is. Personally, I expect DX12 will be more efficient but somewhere between DX 11 and mantle, but with the huge advantage that it will be useful on all hardware.

DX11.2 and so does yours. what are you talking about?

Your screenshot perfectly shows its still DX11.1 and NOT 11.2.

Example with a DX11.0 card.

It raises the question if its just the DX11.2 driver that is missing from AMD. Or that the hardware doesnt even support DX11.2 as claimed.

Mantle works on all GCN cores; you need to understand MS cares about Xbox; right now Xbox1 dev tools are a mess. They are hard to use; they aren't pulling out the performance they should and last but not least MS does NOT own the soc for Xbox1 this time around. AMD does. AMD knows gcn better than anyone.

Xbox1 needs its tools fixed now; not 2 years from now; but now if they want to stay even close to the PS4 - without AMD its not going to happen period. We already know a lot of code from PS4 will translate directly to mantle; and if Xbox1 can do the same or just takes mantle; you have centergy that was talked about.

This isn't a pipe dream; because that is the elephant in the room. Console hardware.......If dev tools on Xbox1 are not fixed asap its only going to get more ugly for MS.

Look again. D3D_FEATURELEVEL_11_1

There is no DX11.2 support on your system due to hardware/driver not being capable.

I can't believe your wasting so much energy on this.

Look at these two slides, can you see the difference between the features of DX11.1 and 11.2? tiled resources ecte....?

Feature level just means its running in DX11.1 mode with added features, that's all DX11.2 is.

Its DX11.1

Just as this card is DX11.0 as I can show you again.

AMD still needs to provide a DX11.2 driver, if their hardware is actually DX11.2 compliant. Until then its DX11.1.

It was rumoured DX11.2 support would come in 14.1 due to a slide in janaury 2014. But that never materialized.

Your in the wrong string. check the Rasterization platform, that's where the DX11.2 features are.

Check my slides again.
