Hello,
Sorry I don't mean to double post here; but I just wanted to let you know that I have just updated my OP with a link to an important update regarding the random crashes, freezes, and BSODs. Please click on the link I provided in my update.

Thank you

Thank you for confirming this issue.

Perhaps AMD could seek the assistance of forum members here or elsewhere to test its drivers on various systems to identify these issues in advance.

Wow this driver is not working right at all for me. Frames are in the single digits for Shadows of Mordor, and Lord of the Rings Online is in the 20's...

Played @45 minutes with COD Ghost in Crossfire in rig below and no problems. In deference to Warsam71, who does a great job posting I encourage everyone who is having problems to report to AMD. I know it takes more time to fill out the form than just posting a rant on this page but at least you have the "moral high ground" to rant if you post a clear problem and it never gets corrected.

I really like the Nvidia drivers (make no secret about it) but the attitude of AMD via Warsam71 gives me hope that they are trying to improve. I have only recently gone from a single GTX780 Classified (water cooled monster) to 2 R9 290s in CF with EK waterblocks. I'm cautiously optimistic that I made the correct choice.

I agree with you.

I just don't think there is a correct choice in term of GPUs. In any way, you'll still get issues and/or great experience whatever GPU you buy whether its from AMD of Nvidia.. Depends on so many factors.

Hello again Everyone,

I have an important update for you regarding random installation hangs, BSODs and CCC crashes some of you have experienced after installing the driver. We are aware of these issues and will be posting an updated driver as soon as it becomes available. Please read this article for more information: “Intermittent Installation Issues With the AMD Catalyst™ 14.9 Driver”.

Thank you for your feedback and comments

AWSOME, I've been having exactly those issues with 14.9

I tried DDU, AMD uninstall Utility and also manual removal of OLD files from registry, system32 and such and they never worked for me.

The only time they seemed to work, every games were crashing.

Installed these over 14.7 beta without uninstall and had no issues with the 290's & 7950's but for the first time the wake up from sleep bug has happened to me on CF 7870's. Even a clean install on the 7870 machines still has the bug so the 7870's are sticking to 14.7.

I used this 14.9 right before changing my 7950 to a 760. Since I'm only playing battlefield 4, I will coment how the game performed.

There is something going on between the mantle driver version and the game patch version. If you run an older mantle version with the newest BF4 patch, there are some performance inconsistencies that make the gaming experience lame (as in: frametime hiccups), but running the 14.9 with the latest bf4 "super patch" gives a really good experience. So in other words, always update the catalyst if you can (and if it has a newer mantle driver version) if you are playing bf4 with mantle.

I had make a profile and disable xfire to make it playable. Will try when I feta chance, too bad there's not many players left on it.

If we have acknowledgement from AMD that these drivers are borked then the right thing to do is to pull them to prevent any further issues for people.

If a driver is causing BSODs it should be pulled.

Since upgrading to 14.9 (Installed software on top of 14.4, no uninstall) has worked great! It looks like Flash video in IE is working all the time now even though there appears to be a slight delay before the video is rendered. Previously with 14.4 drivers Flash video would only work for a short while (only after a system reboot), then stop working in IE and sometimes in Chrome. Did many Google searches for potential fixes, but nothing fully fixed my Flash rendering issue. Also in 14.4 had 4-5 BSOD crashes during the 6 month period that the drivers were installed. Almost all my BSOD crashes where display driver related. Before installing 14.4 I did use DDU to uninstall the previous drivers. Either 13.12 WHQL or 14.3 beta drivers. I am not 100% sure if my previous problems (hopefully 14.9 fixed all of them) are related to 14.4 drivers or a bad install of the 14.4 drivers. My system has 4770k CPU no OC with 1 Sapphire 290 Vapor-X GPU no OC. So far it looks like most of the issues are Crossfire related. Since the drivers are relatively new, if some other problems arise I will update this post!

While my installation went smooth (tried to install over, then had to uninstall and install fresh), it seems to have been pretty messy for some people. Stuff like this has to be improved imo, but it's a good sign to see some forum participation and asking for feedback and now we need to see if it's going to bear fruit and actually get those issues fixed.

It's not everyone that is experiencing issues as you can see from all the posters in this thread. It only happen to certain users.

Does it have to happen 100% of the time? I don't think so. AMD has admitted there is a problem. The easiest way to prevent that problem from affecting people is to pull the driver.

Depends on what the problem is and how widespread. Even though WHQL isn't a catch all it does mean the installation process was examined to a decent extent. I wouldn't want them to pull the update if it is an issue affecting a fractional % of installations.

Well I played with this 14.9 WHQL Dvr for a few hrs again today to no avail. The driver installs perfectly whether I uninstall my old amd-catalyst-14.6-rc2-windows-june23 dvr or write over it. Enigine Benches and BF4 will not load; other wise everything else seems to work perfect. Perhaps I have to re-install Enigene Benches and BF4?

My Platform is X-Fire 290X's under water.

Sure glad I run DOS GHOST BackUps ;o)

DirectX is not working for me in BF4, or at least wasn't prior to 14.9, only mantle is working correctly for me. I couldn't load into the game until I changed over to Mantle in the settings file. In your documents folder there's a battlefield 4 folder, go to the Profsave_profile file and search for mantle.. double check that it says GstRender.MantleEnabled 1.

That's as much help as I can offer, hopefully it works.

Which card are you using that you tried with 14.9?

Huh! It does appear this 14.9 WHQL Dvr does have an issue using DX11 with X-Fire enabled - That is considering both Enigine Benches and BF4 will not load and crashes the system.

I've great results with the amd-catalyst-14.6-rc2-windows-june23 Dvr and users say the same thing about the 4.7 Dvr.

I agree AMD should pull this 14.9 Dvr - Just too many issues especially for a WHQL release.
