AMD Catalyst 11.1a Hot-Fix Driver 1-26-11

Changing from 10.12 to 11.1a hotfix has increased my idle clockspeed from 100Mhz to 300Mhz on the core, with the memory still at 300Mhz like previous driver. Anyone else notice this?

Me too, but it's better than idling at 1000+ like most of the old 10.xx drivers used to.

I think the term "Hotfix" is stupid and misleading, they should be called "beta" drivers (as that's what they are).

Basically AMD released 11.1 official drivers and an updated 11.1a beta set on the same day (again, lame and confusing). The 11.1a hotfix/beta drivers have been working fine for me, I have no complaints about the performance but the retardation with driver labeling and release timing.

So far, my idles seem to be about the same regardless of the increase in idle core speed.

At the moment my Asus 6850 idles around 35-36c and at load (normal load, like an actual game) it gets to max 60-61c.

Not sure if these are good temperatures. Room ambient temperature at reading was 19c.

Idle :

Load :

Might get really good temperatures and no need for a fan soon 😀... Snow heading here again! 🙁

But the latest drivers come with the latest profiles, right? If not, no big deal.
Only Xfire profiles are separate. (just found that out myself)
So, if you're not running crossfire, don't worry about them.

Looks like 69xx owners should install 11.1a since they have optimizations for those cards that didn't make it into the official 11.1 drivers.
And everyone else should use the official 11.1 drivers.

I have a 5870. The 11.1 drivers do not enable MLAA (morphological filtering).

Does 11.1a hotfix provide MLAA for 5000 series cards?

If not, can anyone advise how to enable MLAA on 11.1 drivers?

According to this , yes.

Scroll down and read the comments at the bottom.
I cannot confirm it since i'm running 6950's, so if you do try and confirm it works on the 5000 series cards , could you post back so other owners of those cards will know for sure.

Edited for wrong link, fixed now.

Best i can do is try to install the 11.1a drivers on my laptop with a mobility HD5870.
Not sure if those drivers will even install on a mobility though. (I'll try)

Important note!
If anyone is using driver sweeper to clean old drivers, use ONLY driver sweeper v2.8.5 !!
Earlier versions of driver sweeper remove Windows default versions of drivers and will prevent the Win7 SP1 from installing!

Ok, i could not get the 11.1a drivers to work with my mobility card.

If you want MLAA without all the hassle of doing it yourself, download the drivers from the link below.
http://my.opera.com/rejzor/blog/amd-catalyst-drivers-enhanced-for-hd5000-series
They are official 11.1's modified to enable features for 5000 series cards.
Notes on those drivers...
AMD Catalyst drivers enhanced for HD5000 Series
- New setting for Morphological AA mode (also called MLAA*)
- New setting for texture optimization (Surface Format Optimization)
- New setting for overall texture quality (Texture Filtering Quality)
