Anyone take this drug? I have it and it says not to use if you drink alcohol. It doesn't really say how much time needs to pass before drinking and taking it. Is 20 hours safe? I don't wanna Anna Nicole Smith myself. :-o I know I should have asked pharmacist -_-

Why not read the material that came with it? It should talk about the half life of the drug in vivo as well as more detailed info about what not to mix with it.

Or you know, talk to the prescribing doctor or pharmacist.

Anna Nicole smith was on several different types of drugs including chloral hydrate.

Common sense or use your best judgment. How many hours does it usually take you to sober up? I would say 3-4 hours after wards should be enough.

Alcohol with Ambian will cause the effects of the Ambian to magnify many times over. You would likely not be able to function for a few hours after pounding a few beers then taking these.

i have taken it. that doesn't make me feel comfortable giving you advice on when it's safe to drink after taking it though.

it is good shit, however.

have you ever taken ambian? i'm not able to function for a few hours after taking it even without the beers. people have been known to sleep shop on ambian. it's wicked stuff.

only time i've ever half-ass hallucinated that i can remember is off ambien. it's definitely meant to be taken, then to get your ass to sleep. if you drink a bit o' alcohol then take it, and then go to sleep, i don't see how it can hurt you

by the time you take Ambien and get ready for bed you are so messed up it is time for bed...that drug WORKS!

And if you are thinking about drinking when you wake up (8 hours later)...time to visit A.A. classes

I would think it is done in your body after 12 hours

i was in a medical research group for ambien. there were so many people that had side effects, it was scary. but as i sat at my table in the back of the room, you started seeing people's heads literally fall and hit the table like dominos in about 1-3 minute intervals (doses were taken one subject after the other in one minute intervals).

Jesus why does our FDA allow these chemicals.....

It is honestly better for you to drink a 6-pack and go to sleep.

20 hrs should be plenty of time. it takes about 10 hrs to fully clear ambien. (although it's duration of action is far less)

All Ambien and Ambien CR ever did for me was four hours sleep and I shit myself.

Trust me, it's not all that it's marketed as.

My ortho gave me ambien after my knee surgery. Didn't do much for me. I have some samples of ambien cr that my pain doc gave me...but I've only taken one. They don't do much for putting me to sleep, but the next day, I'm groggy as hell. I also have Lunesta, and that doesn't do much either, but it leaves such a horrible metallic taste that IMO, it's just not worth taking. (unpleasant metallic taste is a known side effect)

It's extremely rare for me to sleep through the night. MOST nights, I sleep 3-4 hours, then the pain wakes me up...so I get up and move around for a while. Then, I go back to bed for another couple of hours.
Sleeping "in shifts" sucks.

yeah, a couple people at the research facility did the same thing... LOTS of we beds, though. i ended up with a nasty bump on my head because i woke up and stumbled to the bathroom to take a piss... i pissed in the shower instead of the toilet and i passed out walking back to the sleeping quarters. i hit my head on the table, apparently, on the way down.

the lady on shift that was overseeing that people stayed in the sleeping quarters had to fireman drag me back to my bunk and put me back in bed. she was too small to pick me up. she told me all of this the next day.

horrible drug. all of those kinds of drugs are.

It's an extended release preparation and the half life is 2 - 2.9 hours. 3-4 hours isn't going to be enough...

Err, you could call the pharmacist and ask?

I have a friend that says I need to take ambien because I've only been able to sleep a few hours a night for the past few weeks. I disagree and really dislike medications. Couldn't take ambien regardless, I don't have an 8hr block of time to actually sleep.

Depends... worse than true chronic insomnia? Granted it probably gets over perscribed, but think about someone who simply can't sleep and what this drug could mean for them.

Has anyone tried a half of a dose?

I forgot to mention that 10hrs is the clearance for a normal liver. For our cirrhotic and geezer ATOT - it's going to be much longer.

also with regards to ambien, it only works to get you to sleep not keep you asleep. Since it is very short acting, you literally have to take it right before you hop in bed or else it will wear off. If you have problems staying asleep you may need to see a sleep pathologist for further work up

my ex took it while she was preggers....shed hallucinate maybe one time in 30. it was awesome.

the other 29 times she was great for 20-ish minutes then was so sleepy she could barely move.

sorry, there's a cause for every disease. most cases of chronic insomnia is due to having too much stress (whether emotional, physical, or chemical). you treat the problem and the symptoms of the disease go away. if it's a hormone issue, address the hormone issue. don't just pass off bullshit designer drugs.

I thought the question was when he should take it after he drinks?
