I'm tire of people making millions off Youtube and I'm tire of the quality of gaming we get nowadays because Youtube is a free advertisement off hype for gaming developer and publisher.

It no coincidence gaming became bad the moment Youtube was created.

Youtube is the devil playground.

Then don't use it?

Youtube is used for other things then gaming mind you. If I wanted to see some gameplay of a game I might want to buy I could go to Youtube and see what its like. Or be entertained by humorous videos. That's not a horrible thing.

YT is about the only decent big video site out that people make videos for that uses a functional video player.

Everything else either use laggy pos ones or are abandoned sites.

It's great to watch gameplay videos and such and if we have to go back to the format where each site uses their own video player like before to advertise their games I would cry. ;)

Gaming quality can be blamed more on mobile / console gaming then a site like YT.

Am I the only person that wants HDTV to be reverted back to SDTV? With higher resolution trailers and video, the importance of the quality of the video overtook the quality of the content. I'm tire.

It's no coincidence that movies and tv became bad when HDTV became popular.

1080p is the devil's resolution.

Another one of "those hotsung threads"? :D Youtube was created in Feb 2005. Bad ports, iffy controls, cheap & nasty sequels, buggy as hell games and people making money off of acting a fool have been around a lot longer than that. YT has its ups and downs. I don't particularly like the silly trend of "gamers" pointing a camera at themselves then making silly noises and pulling faces to squealing 12 year olds to become "Let's Play celebrities". The solution there is of course to not watch those vids. For every "PewDiePie", there are plenty of other decent BS-free "no commentary, no webcam" walkthrough vids. Likewise, some "first impression" reviewers like TotalBiscuit are consistent in calling out devs for rubbish ports, lack of decent options menus, non rebindable keys, etc. Retro gaming, speedruns and game soundtrack compilations are other good things about it.

You want Youtube shut down? This is completely nonsensical. What causation could this possibly have on the quality of gaming? Absolutely none.

Even if it were true, there's still absolutely no reason to want youtube to shut down. At all.

Bad games and hype were here long before Youtube. If anything, I would say that the internet itself...or more specifically, the ability to slice up content and feed it piece meal to the masses for ludicrous profit, has been the downfall of gaming lately.

For me, the turning point was when Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 came out on the PC for $60. At the time, AAA games were $50, there was little to no "DLC", and expansions meant $20-40 of real content. I boycotted Call of Duty and I'm proud to say that MW1 was the last Call of Duty game I ever purchased.

I blame gamers for the state of gaming. While I would never judge gamers on the type of games they play, I absolutely judge them for pushing the industry in the wrong direction by supporting franchises that are designed from the ground up to nickel and dime gamers. When a developer offers a game for $60 and then tells you up front that it's not really the full game unless you also by a "Season Pass" that costs almost as much as the base game, I cry foul. If anyone here purchased a season pass, regardless of whether your just OCD or you think its a good deal, you are part of the problem. Hell, why offer gamers 60 hours of gameplay for $60 when they could give you three 20 hour segments for $180? Better yet, lets just make it episodic and sell it by the chapter.

No, I think Youtube is one of the best tools gamers have right now because it gives us a place to talk about content in the light of the day. Sure, there is hype and advertisement but for every hype driven Destiny video there is also a video critical of it and offers us gameplay video as proof. It's a good with the bad situation.

I have saved a ton of money thanks to youtube. I've repaired things around the house myself, bought the right tool, planted the right plants, etc. All thanks to Youtube videos.

And with the money I saved, I bought bad PC games.

All thanks to Youtube videos.

Nope, I say she's a keeper.

Yes, it's just you. Trust me, if it wasn't Youtube, it would be some other streaming site.

Youtube is great. All sorts of interesting woodworking and home improvement tips, a lot of TV shows you can't get anywhere else, the list goes on and on.

I've learned how to fix and do a lot of things because of YouTube videos.
I could do away with some of the really loud guys playing video games on there that my 7 year old son enjoys watching. Some of those guys are really annoying, but he likes em.

You'll love this - I even have a Youtube Red subscription. Screw commercials.

No problem with Youtube. It's a great resource. Lots of quality science channels, and where else would I get great fail compilations?

YouTube Red comes for free with a Google Play music subscription and many people use their phones for YouTube as well.

I don't understand the rage here. Most youtubers are genuine people who happened to become successful after years of dedicated work.

Now, pewdiepie, I just don't get it. He's just a goofball and has pretty much nothing productive to show for his work. But people like angry joe and or boogie2988 ? I'm very happy for them.

I've often thought I was creative enough to do the same thing...but every time I try to do something creative and distribute it publicly, nobody gets it and people think I'm an idiot.

Browser add-ons are hit or miss at times with it. $10 a month is so trivial that it's worth it to just work from the source.

This exactly. YouTube Red for mobile is huge. No commercials eating up data, the ability to download a video in a particular quality level ahead of time, and playing with the screen off for listening to commentary are all things I use regularly.

The extra perks are nice, but just that. Extra.

If anything YT might help *improve* the quality of games since reviewers will come on and show the world how and why your game stinks (if it does!)

I prefer all my cat videos in one place....

...although there is a point in every youtube search into the rabbit hole where you would swear they changed your "justin beiber videos" to "penis fish" or "japanese sperm collection machine"

EDIT: to stay on topic, changed your "Noah's Ark 3D" to "Leisure Suit Larry's Tentacles of Pleasure Uncut"

Yea I use YT all the time to help decide if I'll like a game or not, especially since demos hardly exist for pc. Always a warning sign when a publisher doesn't allow any footage until the game is released.

There are a lot of free2play weekends and Steam refunds etc. now which is cool, but I only have a mobile connection. Can't be dling a 50gb game just to see if it's any good.
