Got to admit they had a tremendous impact on music. How many bands would even warrant a post like this forty something years after recording their last albumn.

And I felt that way for many years about Elvis, only in the last couple of decades have I come to like some of his music.

Bach?

I hate early Beatles, but the later stuff I really dig. Side 2 of Abbey Road is one of the most perfect album sides ever created. I'm also a big Lennon fan, and Harrison was the shit too. I don't like McCartney so much....

+1 for "doesn't like the Beatles"

I don't know any of their songs...albums...anything. Don't even know the names of the folks in the band.

I think they are quite good, nothing more. But I can also understand that they were an awful lot more than that in the context of their time. Everything gets dulled by repetition and familiarity.

Though, that said, "A Day In The Life" for some reason grabs me more than anything else they recorded. No idea why.

Nope, I wasnt born in the 50s

To me they are just like every other pop boys band... So what they were unique at the time, its 2010 now, its no longer anything special

Overrated.
If they appear for the first time 20 years later, they're irrelevant.

What a dumb comment.
You could say the same about every musician ever.
The point is they DIDN'T appear 20 years later. They did things in a way that nobody else was doing them.

I've always thought that John Lennon gave the Beatles most of their "edge". Paul McCartney had a great talent for pop songs, but I can see why Lennon called a lot of his work "granny music". I shall credit Mr. McCartney for two brilliant post-Beatles albums; McCartney (aka Cherries) and Ram were truly great. Unfortunately he went cheesy pop with his first Wings album (Wild Side) and didn't regain any of his mojo until Band on the Run. His work since then has been uneven at best.

I wonder how many people dislike the Beatles because they are tired of hearing about how much the Fab Four contributed to modern music?

If people are tired of hearing about their contribution to music it is only because their impact is so enormous. The fact that people could not like them for this fact alone only reinforces the validity of the claim.

With the exception of Hip Hop artists I bet it is hard to find someone in music that has not been influenced by the Beatles in some way. They totally changed the entire music scene so even if an artist is not directly influenced by their music they have been passively affected by their contribution.

Just because they beat everyone else to the punch that was most likely coming very soon after they delivered it, doesn't make them Gods. It makes them smart business men who filled a void at the right time. That's all. It's not genius music or particularily good music compared to many others. Right place, right time.

I hate when people put bands on pedestals. I'd say the same for The Eagles, Nirvana and Led Zeppelin.

One thing I don't get is why people think doing things differently = good music. Sure I acknowledge that the Beatles WERE different and have massive social impacts, but that doens't mean I like the music.

Same with Gaga Except I don't acknowledge that she did anything different from the norm.

well, that explains it.

You obviously have an aversion to music of any sort.

They're okay. A bit greedier than most mega-millionaire musicians but the music is alright.

See, that was the first thing that crossed my mind of what people would think I was referring my dislike of them to. However, I can unequivocally say that they music just plain sucks. It's not entertaining and doesn't have a sound or melody that my ear can appreciate.

As individuals, I find each of the beatles fascinating and talented people. But their music, not so much.

Then your ears have no idea what talent sounds like, if you can't find melody in ANY Beatles song then your deaf as a haddock...

Sometimes a Beatles song will get stuck in my head ("Here Comes the Sun") and I have no idea why. I generally don't enjoy Beatles music.

One that actually irritates me is the one with these lyrics:

Come together.
Right now.
Over me.

I think it's one of those bands that you really had to be there to understand what led to their superstardom. For someone born in 1985, I don't have any trouble understanding the mega-success of acts like Elvis Presley, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and all the other old heavyweights. The Beatles, I could never fully understand myself. I like a couple of their songs but have never been interested enough to want to know all their albums or even read their Wikipedia page.
