Another head scratcher, the Armenian Khachkar memorial in Colorado was vandalized with the graffiti “cops are the evil” on the ground adjacent to it.

Lol....Christ the Redeemer is 125 feet tall, and weighs 625 tons. It's not the statue itself he's trying to protect. He's projecting that the image of Christ that will be the next to be "torn down" by this "mob of criminals"
The size/weight isn't what makes it ridiculous. After all, people are seriously proposing to take down Mount Rushmore and Stone Mountain, and you don't even need to take something down to vandalize it.

It's ridiculous because he has no jurisdiction/control in other countries so electing him would have zero effect on his ability to protect Christ the Redeemer.

Can't wait for all those statues to come down. The sun will shine bright and all the currently impoverished and violent plagued areas will be turned into blissful utopias.

I'll just drop this here since it's related and not worth a new thread:

So apparently Tucker Carlson wasn't pleased by Tammy Duckworth saying we should have a "national dialogue" about which statues and monuments should remain or be taken down. On his show, he says she "despises America" calls her a "coward" "a fraud" and a "callous hack." Bear in mind her legs were blown off in Iraq and of course Carlson never served.

Yeah I know, the man is a scoundrel like virtually every other prominent conservative in America these days. Same old shit, different day.

Sounds good. None of those on the surface seem terrible. There was a story on NPR today about a Lincoln statue that depicted slaves pretty poorly that is being requested to be taken down. Not because it's Lincoln but the way slaves were depicted.

You mean the one that freed slaves paid for that shows a slave with his chains broken standing up for the first time as a free man? The one that keeps getting misconstrued by morons to be a slave that is lower or bowing to Lincoln?

Ugh. Don't fall for that crap.

I can't read through all these posts.

I have no problem whatever relocating those statues in Richmond and places where the intent was to glorify officers of the Confederacy.

I do have a problem with disturbing the Gettysburg statuary. Doyle McManus of LA Times seems to have the right idea:

To Judge Monuments, Think About Their Meaning

You can't destroy history; you can't destroy the Past. There is a way to move forward.

The Trumpers have brought us here. They want everything "their way". They refuse to compromise. On moral issues, of course, one cannot compromise. that's why there was a Civil War.

But take Mt. Rushmore, for instance. It's already complicated by the position taken by the Sioux Nations.

On the other hand, suppose we added another president? The Black President.

The Trumpers won't like some sort of measuring stick as to what to do with some monuments. They'll insist on keeping all of it, despite the context in which some of those monuments were erected.

We can do better than that.

The crap not to fall for is the narrative that the actions of (selectively) random individuals are as important as those of the President of the United States.

Governor of Indiana changing the name of the State since it is offensive.

===================================================================
The question came amid a national debate to rebrand sports teams and other entities with Native American associations.

Governor Holcomb added that he’s directed his administration to investigate “how we can do a better job sharing the story of Indiana.”

“Sharing the story of who we are as a people, a very diverse people, and to be able to celebrate our successes, to be able to acknowledge our shortcomings, and deal with them.”

“I’ll look to speak more about this in the near future,” Holcomb added.

Indiana was named by Congress in 1800 and means “Land of the Indians” or “Indian land,” an acknowledgment of the indigenous tribes who lived in the area prior to European and American settlement.

Supposedly a sculpture of Melania Trump was burned by vandals in her hometown on July 4th, but it looks like a pinata or papier-mâché effigy that was intended to be burned/destroyed.

Can you really call them "vandals" in that case? Maybe it was whittled out of wood, but it certainly doesn't look like it was ever intended to honor anyone.

Oh boy. Staring you right in the face. Never noticed. In a sense it was accurate once, except Indian is a pejorative really.
