Not to mention that a large number of statues and the like were actually put up during the Jim Crow law era. They weren't there to remind us of what happened, and they weren't part of older history. They were reactionary homages to a way of life the racists wanted back, and intimidation pieces toward the uppity types that wanted to actually be seen as humans.
We don't need statues to remind us that a bunch of traitors went to war against the country in order to be able to keep slaves. We DO need assholes like Desantis to stop white-washing history with garbage like "the good side of slavery, it taught life skills".
